Tips For Recording Yourself On Video
Choose The Right Clothing
General rule, solid and rich colors look best on video and film. Avoid wearing bright white clothing which can dominate the screen. A safer color to wear would be a not-quite-white colors like light beige and light grey. Also, very pale colors may work better. Avoid shinning fabrics or jewelry.
Avoid patterns and visible logos, text, images. If you are promoting a brand then logos are good!
Avoid all white or all black clothing.
When recording in front of a greenscreen: Never wear green or anything that has green in it. Dark solid and rich colors are best.
Choosing The Right Location
Choose a well-lit location - plenty of indoor lighting.
Choose a quiet location, little to no background noise (people, pets, street sounds)
Turn off fans, heaters, air conditioners to avoid fan noises.
Setting Up Your Phone/Camera
Set your laptop, phone, or camera on tripod or steady surface - don't hold your camera to avoid shaky footage.
Shoot horizontally - landscape mode - avoid portrait mode.
Position camera at eye level - avoid angles where camera lens is looking up or down on you.
Choose a non-distracting background - avoid windows, showing other people, posters, signs that can be read.
Lighting
Shoot in daylight if possible.
Position yourself so windows or your main light sources are facing you, not behind you.
Avoid overhead lights.
When shooting indoors, consider using a right light that clips to your computer/phone to help light your face.
Camera Presence
Look at the camera at all times.
Keep your hand movements to a minimum.
Stand/sit up straight.
Keep hands to your side or gently folded in front of you.
Keep your shoulders relaxed.
Smile, especially at the beginning and end of responses.
Delivering Presentations
Direct your gaze to the camera.
Consider using a teleprompter app to minimize looking up and down from your screen. A few to consider: Teleprompter (free) and PromptSmart Pro (cost)
