Intellectual elite against cutting plane trees

On February 12th, public debate about cutting plane trees in Belgrade was held. It was organised by academicians and intellectuals, members of several most prestigious scientific institutions. Number of academicians and professors of architecture, civil engineering and forestry openly criticized plans for reconstruction Boulevard of king Alexander and cutting plane trees in Belgrade, stating that such an act is in direct conflict with economic interest of Belgrade, and that it will endanger lives and health of Belgrade citizens.

Later on, director of "JKP Zelenilo - Beograd" (public utility company for maintaining parks and forests within Belgrade city limits), Radovan Draškić, in an interview confessed that the reason for cutting plane trees is not that they are sick beyond help, but expanding parking space.

Academy of architecture of Serbia as an institution and its members as individual experts proclaimed their opposition to the planned ecocide.
