Another Way to Program Humans?

I came across some article: https://theconversation.com/exploding-herpes-virus-blasts-dna-into-human-cells-16543

Basically it shows that a virus can blast a bunch of dna/rna into the nucleus of a cell and scientists are going to try exploiting the nature of viruses to destroy cancerous cells.

I came across bizzarre ideas:

1. Would it achieve anything if we blast normal human dna into those cells?

2. What if we tried to make ourselves "super human" by programming desired traits and placing them into the virus to genetically modify ourselves?
