Dr. Jamal Ameen (BSc, MSc, PGCEd, PhD), I completed my primary education in Chwarta (near Suleimany) and obtained a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Mathematics/Statistics from Baghdad University. I worked as an academic member of staff at the University of Suleimany for four years before embarking on a PhD in the field of Bayesian Modelling and Forecasting, at the University of Warwick, UK. After spending a few years as a postdoctoral research fellow, I began working for Unilever as a research scientist in 1987 and developed new techniques and tools for market analysis, including advertising and promotional and pricing activities. For part of that period, I was also a visiting lecturer at Liverpool University.

At the start of 1994, I joined the Mathematics and Computing Department at the University of Glamorgan, South Wales, UK. Since then, I have actively participated in developing new modules and degree courses both at graduate and postgraduate levels.

I have successfully directed five MSc and nine PhD students to completion all within their timeframes. Topics of their research spanned over different fields of statistical modelling, accounting, finance, engineering, economics and healthcare. Examples include: Weather Corrected Electricity Demand Forecasting (PhD); Co-integration models within the European financial markets (MSc); Telemedicine and nurse’s role in the care of leg ulcers (PhD); The Impact of Female Genital Mutilation on childbirth (PhD); Islamic Banking (PhD).
