As you may know, I have been working on and off, writing stories set in a fictional Lums Chapel. It has been an ongoing process since sometime in the autumn of 1989 and winter of 1990. The original story has grown into stories about a family. It will take more than one book to tell the tale. I have a whole series of "Lums Chapel" books and stories in mind. I managed to start the stories by writing a radio drama for a BBC World Service competition. I did not win the competition, but I did learn that I can finish something. The novel, "To Them That's Left", started out as, "Driven to Abstraction," the radio drama I wrote for the competition. I want to use the radio drama as the kernel of the novel. The short story that I write about on these pages, was going to be the first chapter to that novel.
Since October 29, 2007, I have been working on another novel which is also detailed on this site. I have been reading lots of, "how to write," books. I started subscribing to Writer's Digest. I got a notice in the mail about an anual competition that they have. It has different categories. I had decided to suspend writing on the other novel temporarily and write a short story for the competition. Writing for the Writer's Digest competition, had caused me to put together the, "Lums Chapel Stories," of this website. I didn't finish the short story in time for the competition that ended in May, 2010. I did want to finish it anyway, so I would have something to enter into a future competition. I abandoned that idea around, April 30, 2010.
You can read about the writing progress, history, and other, "news," by clicking on the link to the "Journals," below. You can read about the family I am writing about by clicking on the "Lums Chapel Family Tree". The "Who, What, When, Where," page has a more detailed look at all the characters and places in the various "Lums Chapel" stories. "The Synopsis of All the Lums Chapel Stories," page has "the gist," of, all the Lums Chapel stories as I envision them in August 2015. The "Inspiration," page has photographs of things that have inspired my story. (I don't have photos of everything that has inspired me.) Finally, I am working on, "How I Learned to Read A Book," starting in December 2015.
Story I am working on starting in December 2015. I hope to write this as a novel and a radio drama. This is the adventures of Constance Lingwood the, "city girl," Josephine Argyle has been pen pals with since childhood.
January 29, 2016 Sometime in early November 2015 I decided to use the, "Writing Map," I bought. I thought that since the opening of the radio drama competition came and went, I would put my radio drama on hold in order to concentrate on the work I needed to do around the house. We always have lots to do getting the house ready for a Christmas guest. My goal now is to write this story as a novel and a radio drama. Please look at the index page for, "How I Learned to Read a Book," in order to learn more. There is a Journal for this novel and the radio drama as well. I will write more to these journals when and if it becomes relevant.
