May 10, 2013 This is a very rough draft of a synopsis to my Osbert Pickle story.

From May 22, 2011

Mosdubia in Sonlight

(Osbert Pickle / man with his dog story)

[Not so gloomy dystopian sci-fi story set in a fictional country. Elements of the story include, synthetic water; horizontal elevator; lake and beach on the top floor of a hotel.]

Towards, the end of a, "war for independence," a farmer at the western edge of Mosdubia suffers a great tragedy. He leaves his life and farm with his sister and her family. He becomes itinerant book dealer, Osbert Pickle, and sets out in search of the most important thing he ever lost.

Mosdubia is now a country plagued by terrorism, at least that is what the news media wants to have one believe. With his small dog Napoleon, Osbert lands in Mosdubia's capitol city. Osbert has enough money to stay a while in the city's legendary eccentric hotel. The Hotel Rumback becomes his refuge against the oppressive society around him.

Osbert places and ad for his book business in the local paper. He continues his book buying and selling adventure. A nearly invisible collection of people from the underground Church helps him achieve his goal of finding what he seeks.

Obtaining clues and suggestions from seemingly odd sources, Osbert gets closer and closer to his goal. The police become aware of his presence in the city.

While hiding from the police, Osbert finds the unexpected, the most important thing he didn't know he was missing.

In the end Osbert's questions are answered. He gains something he didn't know he lost. Although not completely a, "happy ending," there is hope. Osbert sees the light at the end of a long gray tunnel.
