May 20, 2013
I am re-writing chapter one. I am sticking various versions of the first few pages on here. Don't expect any changes to be made to these versions. (Unless there is something glaring I run across that needs fixing.) More than likely I will stick on here a whole new page per new edition of the first few pages. I have decided to stick with the way the May 20, 2013 version is going, I won't be updating that version. It is easier to cut and paste a whole new document than it is to edit an existing one line by line. If I edit the original document, I won't want to edit it again, line by line, on this site.
Eventually I will have to stop sticking new, "starts" on this site. I will find one that works and I will have to get on with writing the rest of the story. I think I have learned, "enough for now". I can get on with writing the rest of the story. I have the story pretty much mapped out in notes. There are some gaps that need filling in as I go along. It shouldn't be too difficult once I sit down and get to writing. I have a nice chair on order to sit in. When I get the office finally sorted I shouldn't be in pain when I sit here to write. So long as I keep other stuff done I need to do as well--- house work; dishes; etc.-- as per an agreement with, "The Admiral," then I should have the ability to write for longer periods of time.
This is just the main versions. I do not include all the experiments I have done.
The formatting did not always come out 100% like I had it in the original document. It should read ok though. Quite a few of these end with notes to myself on how I wanted to proceed. These notes will probably only mean something to myself. It is easier to cut and paste the document and leave things as they come out. Also, it allows anyone interested to see my progression (regression?) as a writer.

I've stuck what I once called, "the whole of chapter one" here. I thought of it as a final rough draft. That didn't mean that the, "first chapter" would stay exactly the way it is presented here. This one is the illustrated version.
July 24, 2010 version. This is another version of the first one. This one is not illustrated. It is just text. This version has more to it than the one above. This was, "definitive," for a long time. This starts with Osbert waiting outside the Rumback Hotel. It is some time after he arrived at the hotel.
July 29, 2010, "Alternative Start". This one is very short. It is what came to mind as a better way to start the story. I backed it up a little bit and started the story earlier. This one starts with Osbert asleep in his room in the Rumback. It takes place before the events in the earlier versions.
July 9, 2011-- A continuation of the July 29, 2010 version. As usual I end it with notes to myself.
April 1, 2012 -- This is a test I did to try out a new idea I had. Rather than opening the story in Osbert's room at the Rumback, I open it as Osbert enters the hotel for the first time. In the final version of the story, I do hope to incorporate the ideas in this, "test," along with the ideas from earlier versions.
This page was originally two pages. There are two versions of this on the one page. I am not sure how different these two versions are-- if they are different. The first one you come to, is the second version.
The one at the bottom of the page, [after the ~s] is the first version I did. It is a version I did in a hurry. I was experimenting in a notebook via long hand. I ended up typing the hand written text onto paper then gluing it into the book. I eventually typed it out onto the computer. I uploaded it so The Admiral could print it from work. I was in a hurry because there was a time constraint for some reason. I probably had to type it in before The Admiral left work. I was typing from a typewritten draft with lots of scribbled additions on it.
Our printer wasn't working for a while. More experimenting in a notebook via long hand. This is the version with lots of notes to myself included in the text. These notes are in red brackets. I ask myself questions and stick in there things I want to change or need help with.
May 20, 2013 version. (That's supposed to be footprints in snow. The font I used didn't have numbers, so I spelled out the date.)
I am going to go with this version. [At least that's how it looks now.] It needs lots of help. I probably need to correct some tenses. The last paragraph needs to be moved, or taken out. I need to work on my descriptions. The ones I have in this version need lots of help. There are many things I want to do. I have a print out of this version that has tons of scribbles on it.
I might change things from first person to third person. I want to write like I am doing here and then incorporate stuff from the earlier drafts into the new draft.
