The Cub Scout uniform/gear consists of:
The official Scout shirt
We highly recommend purchasing a short sleeve shirt in a large size so your boy can wear it all through Cub Scouts. If you currently have a shirt that you have outgrown and you would be willing to pass it along to a younger Scout please email the Pack and we will find a good home for it.
The neckerchief for the Scout's rank (i.e. Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos)
The Pack will not be purchasing neckerchiefs for the boys. If you have an old neckerchief that you would like to donate back to the Pack we will match it with a boy who is currently at that rank and lend it to him. And we will also find you one to borrow for the year that corresponds to your current rank.
A Pack t-shirt
The Pack t-shirt is worn to outdoor events like the fall cookout or the fall and spring camp outs. Or to things like the conservation event where there is a greater chance of damage to the uniform shirt.
Handbook/starter badges
A handbook for the Scout's rank is provided by the Pack. New Scouts also receive 4 starter badges for their official uniform shirt (the Pack numeral, the den numeral, the council patch and the purple Scouting patch). Check out this informative guide to patch placement for more information.
You may also wish to purchase:
A red vest
The vest is where patches for things like popcorn, campouts, outings are placed. The vests are available at the Scout store.
A belt
The boys will earn some belt loops along the way which can be attached to the belt. The belts are available at the Scout store.
Badge Magic
(Unless you want to sew each patch on your child's shirt/vest by hand!) If you use Badge Magic you simply cut the Badge Magic to match the shape of the badge, stick one side to the patch, stick the other side to the shirt/vest and pop it in the dryer for 20 minutes. It really is magical!
To purchase the above items try the Scout store in Vernon Hills. The Scout store is kind of a fun place to visit and you do not pay tax on your purchases there.
