Lookups on paid sites

There's been a discussion in Memlist recently about Fold3 and Ancestry and subscriptions, with one Memlist member offering to do a lookup at a paid site, for which they have a personal subscription, for another member.

This is very likely going against the terms and conditions of that person's subscription.

Please do not make offers like that in this group.

As was mentioned in that discussion, the Research Service team at NZSG can often help with that sort of query, and they have the right to do that sort of lookup with their subscription to sites, where we as individuals do not. If they don't have that right, they will let you know.

Judy Russell, the Legal Genealogist, has written about this several times over the years. Her article TNSTAAFL (There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) is good reading on the topic.

I will be adding this to the rules of this group, as it keeps coming up from time to time.
