Not receiving list mail?

The mail can stop for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • you're no longer a current member of the society
  • you're set to "no emails"
  • the mail is being marked as spam
  • you're looking at the wrong email account

You're no longer a member of the society

Each month a new list of current members is issued from the office. Each month I compare that list to the list I keep of members, and any who have dropped off are sent an email reminding them that their sub has lapsed, and if they want to continue receiving the Memlist mail they need to (1) renew their sub if they haven't already, and (2) let me know that they've paid. A deadline is set (at least a few days ahead) after which any who have not responded will be removed from Memlist with no further notice.

The solution is simple - pay your annual subscription to NZSG, and then let me know you've done so.

You're set to "no emails"

You may have set this yourself, either intentionally or by accident, or you may have asked me to make that change for you. Either way, it is simple to turn it back to "all emails". You can check your own setting, and change it, by going to the Memlist archive and checking your own settings - see "Accessing the group archive" for instructions if you need assistance.

If you prefer me to do this for you, drop me a line (to forum@genealogy.org.nz) and ask. I'm happy to do that for you.

The mail is being marked as spam

Check your spam folder(s) to make sure the mail isn't being sent there. Check both your email program (eg Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook), if you use one, and your account at your ISP (eg, at Yahoo.co.nz for Xtra users, Gmail.com for Gmail, etc).

If you find that your list mail has been marked as spam, take the necessary steps to tell the program/service that the mail is not spam, if that option is offered. This will help to stop future list mail being mis-identified as spam.

You're looking at the wrong email account

Many people have more than one email account. If you're one of them, make sure that you're checking the right address. If you forward the mail from the subscribed address to another, make sure the forwading instructions are still set to work as they should.

You can only post and access the archive from the address that is subscribed to Memlist. You can be subscribed with more than one address - just drop me a line if you'd like to add a new address, or change to a different one - forum@genealogy.org.nz
