Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) has been the Merrimack Valley’s professional theatre company since 1979 and is an integral part of Lowell’s identity as the cultural heart of the region. Merrimack Repertory Theatre's mission is to share theatrical stories of human understanding that reflect and engage our community. MRT is a cultural resource for its community and strives to remove barriers to access and build community partnerships. MRT produces a seven-show season of new plays from September through May in our 279-seat theatre, the Nancy L. Donahue Theatre in Liberty Hall.
Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT), the only professional theatre in the Merrimack Valley, is looking for an Artistic Director Communications Intern for Fall semester. This internship is a great chance to learn about the theatre and marketing in an arts organization.
Responsibilities:
Students may undertake a variety of tasks to assist the Artistic Director, including—but not limited to—some of the following examples:
Helping to create student matinee study guides and tie them to state curriculum frameworks
Coordinating communications for special events (Educator Night, A Christmas Carol Family Welcome, Community Nights)
Participating in marketing and development projects necessary for the smooth operation of the theatre, such as
Writing weekly e-news letter
Drafting development letter copy
Skills:
Strong writer
Excellent editing skills
Able to meet deadlines
Willing to learn new skills and ask questions
Reliable worker with excellent professional communication skills
Requirements:
Complete 120 (min.) unpaid hours; hybrid in-person and remote
Must be fully vaccinated
Tuesday through Friday afternoons preferred
Interest in the field of theatre (acting, production, set design, etc.)
Experience directly with theatre not required but preferred
Experience with communication, journalism, or marketing through courses, previous internships, or volunteer work a plus
