The Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust (LP&CT) is a private, non-profit land trust located in Lowell, Massachusetts. LP&CT was founded in 1990 by residents with a vision to protect the natural resources upon which the city of Lowell was built. LP&CT provides conservation leadership and programs which focus on four major areas: land protection, stewardship, environmental education, and special places. Their mission is "to improve the quality of life for the people of Lowell through education and through the creation, conservation, and preservation of parks, open spaces, and special places."
Intern will be responsible for creating social media which conveys the impact of LP&CT's environmental work to "create community through conservation" in Lowell. The primary focus will be to collect stories and testimonials about the organization’s initiatives. Information will be collected at a variety of events and programs. In addition to developing social media content, the student intern will be responsible for various other communications tasks as assigned.
Supervisor will set clear expectations, give constructive feedback, and respond promptly to intern questions. Supervisor will also mentor student and encourage them to develop new skillsets, as well as a portfolio of "outputs" to show to potential employers.
Responsibilities:
Students may undertake a variety of tasks, including—but not limited to—some of the following:
Contribute to biweekly social media calendar developed collectively by the staff
Attend events "in the field" to gather information for social media content
Draft membership letters
Attend biweekly staff meeting
Help manage LP&CT's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts
Increase organization presence on LinkedIn in particular
Qualifications:
Excellent writing skills
Arrive on time and prepared to work
Communicate ahead of time if there are any schedule complications
Respond promptly to communications
Ask for help as needed
Requirements:
Complete 120 (min.) unpaid hours
Dress appropriately—business casual in the office or appropriate clothing for field work
Create a timesheet in Google Sheets to keep track of hours; share with supervisor
