The Sun is a daily newspaper based in Lowell, Massachusetts, United States, serving towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire in the Greater Lowell area and beyond.
The Lowell Sun and the UMass Lowell English department are pleased to announce an ongoing internship partnership. Each semester—and in the summer—two UMass Lowell English department students may serve as interns at the Sun. As interns they will gain experience doing a variety of journalistic writing; what students do will depend on their interests and needs of the Sun. Students will be chosen based on their quality of journalistic writing, their experience, and their potential.
Responsibilities:
Work on projects determined by the assignment editors. These may include:
Gathering information
Rewriting press releases
Writing full stories
Attending and participating in meetings with supervisor and staff
Qualifications:
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Firm grasp of AP Style
Presents ideas effectively
Works independently, but asks for help with projects as needed
Responds promptly to all communication
Requirements:
Complete 120 (min.) unpaid hours (in-person, during standard business workweek)
Must have access to a car and dress professionally
Must have at least 4-6 published newspaper articles (college newspaper okay)

Register for ENGL.4940 for 3 academic credits
