The Brush Art Gallery and Studios is located in the Lowell National Historical Park across the courtyard from the Visitor Center. This dynamic and captivating place was originally founded by the Lowell Historic Preservation Commission, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Brush presents museum quality exhibitions, educational programs, and has collaborated with many other nonprofit groups. Artists occupy studio spaces to interact with and educate the public on a weekly basis. Currently, eleven studio artists produce paintings, illustration, photography, jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, quilts, and handwoven items. Associate artists display work in the common area. The Brush Art Gallery and Studios is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. The Brush is supported by the Lowell National Historical Park.
Interns will help with various marketing, communication, and fundraising projects for the organization. The intern will be primarily tasked with creating scheduled content for social media platforms. Areas of focus will be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube. Executive Director will discuss materials for inspiration including notes from a previous intern. Although time spent in the gallery is a priority, some remote time can be spent to accommodate student schedule vs. gallery hours.
Responsibilities:
Students will undertake a variety of tasks, including—but not limited to—some of the following:
Create content for posts on social media (Examples: Share posts from Boston Museums, feature a famous artist)
Write artist profiles for the artists and promote them on social media
Create and post 1-minute videos that can be posted on Facebook and YouTube (can also be used for TikTok)
Post artist processes—comparing rough sketches to final pieces
Make video profiles to promote exhibits and artists
Take and post high-quality candids of artists working or patrons appreciating art (Instagram or Facebook)
Make frequent holiday posts, even for holidays like "International Dog Day"
Promote UMass Lowell or Middlesex Community College interaction contests via social media
Report to the Executive Director once a week by email with a concise outline of posts for each platform
Greet visitors while performing tasks at the front desk
Qualifications:
Excellent writing skills
Competence with a variety of media
Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Docs suite
Anticipates people's needs and reactions
Displays professionalism while in the gallery
Follows through on tasks independently unless more direction is necessary
Requirements:
Complete 120 (min.) unpaid hours
Availability during open hours (Tues-Sat 11 am - 4 pm, Sun 12 pm - 4 pm) for in person work; for remote work, arrange with director
Be a self-driven individual who can take initiative to complete tasks
