Established in 1978, Loom Press publishes books by established and emerging writers and artists with an emphasis on (but not limited to) writers from New England. Loom Press titles range from fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to documentary photography, biography, and cultural studies.
In this remote position, student interns will be involved in the editing process of one or more books. The intern may assist in all aspects of editorial work as needed from start to finish, and all work will be overseen by Loom Press. Regular contact via email, text, and Zoom session will allow for goals and objectives to be completed as expected. The supervisor will provide detailed instructions for all work and will be available broadly for questions and follow-ups.
Responsibilities:
Students may undertake a variety of tasks, including—but not limited to—some of the following:
Copyediting and proofreading text for approval by publisher
Collaborating with project manager and team on cover design and page design
Revising work as needed through close contact with project manager
Assistance with marketing (social media, book reviews, media coverage)
Qualifications:
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and revising skills
Great attention to detail; this work is largely detail-oriented
Demonstrate expertise in grammar and style
Able to complete tasks in a timely manner; deadlines are critical in publishing
Reliable: complete all tasks as assigned and show up for meetings as scheduled
Experience with various social media platforms
Prior knowledge of marketing and publishing-oriented media preferred, but not required; can be learned
Requirements:
Complete 120 (min.) unpaid hours (remote)
Schedule to be determined between intern and supervisor at beginning of project
