12/07/10 - Chime

Being the TF2 hat glutton I am, I decided to pick up the game Chime (http://store.steampowered.com/app/62100/) off of Steam to edge myself closer to the Treasure Hunt hats and since it was only $1.25, it seemed like a no-brainer buy. In the past I've bought a couple of "impulse" buy indie games off Steam and they either didn't work or weren't worth the time, therefore I won't even talk about them, but Chime is different.

Chime is a Tetris-esque (Tetrisphere if you've played it) puzzle game set to various types of trance music, a "beat line" passes from the left of the screen to the right and dependent on what's happening the song is affected as well. Scoring is based on "quads", which are rectangular shapes of 3x3 blocks or larger, the larger the quad the higher the score possible. Though there's a time limit in which you can build onto the quad before it's destroyed, the longer the chain, the less time there is to build on it. A la Tetris, once the time on the quad has expired, the entire chain is destroyed and new blocks can be set in its place.

Only complaint I have with the game is that the block placement can get a little iffy every once in a while, but it isn't such a major detraction that I can't enjoy the game.

If you like puzzle games and are light cash, definitely pick up Chime while it's cheap (before the end of today).
