Dr. Amit Patel

Amit holds BE (Mechanical Eng) and ME degree (in Thermal Eng) from M. S. University of Baroda, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar (2019). He took leave from M. S. University of Baroda (where he is a faculty member in Mechanical Engineering Department) to pursue PhD at IIT Ropar, under the co-supervision of Dr. Himanshu Tyagi and Dr. Harpreet Singh.  His PhD thesis was titled 'Decentralized Off-Grid Electricity Generation from Biooil Produced using the Intermediate Pyrolysis of Agricultural Residual Waste'. His interests are in the field of thermal analysis, biomass pyrolysis and heat transfer.

Dr. Kapil Garg

Kapil holds B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chitkara University, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar. He worked under the co-supervision of Dr. Himanshu Tyagi and Prof. Sarit K. Das, and his PhD thesis title was 'Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Solar-Powered Multi-Stage Flash and Humidification-Dehumidification Desalination using Volumetric Absorption'. He was also recipient of UNSW: IIT-Ropar Fellowship for Energy + Water Nexus program (and visited UNSW, Sydney, Australia as part of this program in July 2019). After completing his PhD from IIT Ropar in 2021, he has been working as a Post-Doc Research Associate (Research Associate in the School of Water, Energy and Environment (SWEE)) at Cranfield University, UK.

Dr. Sanjeev Soni

Sanjeev holds B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Madras (1998) and and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar (2015). His PhD thesis was titled 'Heat Transfer Phenomenon and Optical Interaction during Nanoparticle Assisted Thermal Therapy'. Previously, he has worked at Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar (1998-2005) in the area of Plasma Processing. He joined CSIR-CSIO (Central Scientific Instruments Organisation), Chandigarh in 2005, and is currently working as a Senior Principal Scientist there in the field of biomedical instrumentation. His research interests lie in the fields of Thermal ablation, Nano-Bio- Photonics, Plasmonics, Biological Heat Transfer, Medical Robotics.

Dr. Vikrant Khullar

Vikrant holds B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from P.T.U. and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar (2014). His PhD thesis was titled 'Heat Transfer Analysis and Optical Characterization of Nanoparticle Dispersion-Based Solar Thermal Systems'. During his PhD he used numerical tools as well as experimental techniques to harness solar energy using nanofluid-based direct absorption techniques. His interests are in the field of solar energy, heat transfer applications of nanoparticles, biomass gasification. In 2012, Vikrant was chosen as one of the four 'UNSW-IIT Ropar Sustainable Energy Fellows' and consequently was selected to attend the Joint Workshop held at UNSW (University of New South Wales), Sydney, Australia during Apr 2012 (Photos). He is currently working as Associate Professor at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala.

Dr. Vishal Bhalla

Vishal holds B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from P.T.U, M.E degree in Thermal Engineering from Thapar University, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar (2018). His PhD thesis was titled 'Experiments on Solar Thermal Systems Utilizing Nanoparticles-Laden Fluid Under Stagnation and Flow Conditions'. He carried out experimental work with blended nanoparticle-laden fluids, as well as conducted experiments for flow conditions. His interests are in the field of heat transfer and thermal analysis. After completing his PhD he worked at NIT Hamirpur, and later at Brunel University London, U.K. as a Post-Doctoral research scholar. Currently he is working as Assistant Professor at College of Engineering Pune, Maharashtra, India.
