Kind and condescending,

Halo of learning,

Her face beaming,

The Goddess of Learning

(Not the Goddess of War,

Nor weapons, bloody victories)

Is worshipped on Vijayadasami

Before the Goddess

With solemn devotion

And zeal we read

Portions from Ramayana.

Before Her sitting

Jabbering children

Will get initiated

To the wonders of alphabets.

This is the tradition,

And, Kerala could attain

Hundred percent literacy

In a single campaign.
