EVENING SALUTATION
Brass lamp lit bright
Held in right hand
Her cupped left palm
Protected flame from the wind.
"Light, Salute light!"
A melody sweet.
Flicker of flame
Sprayed gold on her
Face and lush tresses’
A bright piece of
Evening left behind
After sun-set.
Heart pounded to my ears,
Lungs bellowed with the wish
To lift her in my arms
To swirl like a top
Till she’d grasp me tight,
Her eyes beseech in fright.
I’d tickle her to laughter
And stifle her with kisses.
