It would be nice if examples of files can be posted with the TI-Nspire Player ready to work. So let's try Extrema Player. Simply click on it for an example of a CAS-active file. When using the player, you cannot use keyboard features, like menu, enter, or even typing in a function. But you can use the mouse to click arrows or grab functions.
I ended up using the Public Folder in my Drop Box account as Steve Phelps demonstrated in this video.
I had considered making the Extrema file (which will appear on TI-math.com with teachers notes and a student worksheet) specially designed for the player - eliminating pages that cannot be interacted with by using only the mouse, but I decided to leave it as it is in case teachers/students wanted to save the file to be used on their handhelds or software.
As was recently discussed on the AP Calculus electronic discussion group, students need to demonstrate that they know *Calculus* when taking the AP Calculus exam. Even if the maximum and minimum can be found using various other methods, when you are asked to justify your answer for a point being the maximum, you will not get any point or credit for saying "It is the highest point on the graph, so it is a maximum" or "reason: my calculator said it is the maximum; I used fmax(..." Something else that is hideous about these examples of bad justification is the use of the pronoun 'it.' Avoid the use of 'it'. 'It' doesn't communicate clearly enough.
