Programs and Advocacies
Aside from its advocacy on Genetics Education, The UPLB Genetics Society promotes the alleviation of social welfare and social consciousness particularly on concerns that are overlooked by society.
True to its academic nature and mission of creating and promoting awareness about the science of Genetics in the Philippines, The UPLB Genetics Society regularly offers an event for high school students and teachers - The Genetics Camp. The event's main purpose is to stimulate public awareness about the science of Genetics especially to high school students.
The secondary level of education has long been identified as one of the sectors that are shorthanded in the field of Genetics. At the same time, this is a stage in which formative decisions and career paths are made. The camp also promotes the effective teaching of Genetics through a workshop offered to secondary school science teachers present in the camp [Link: Genetics Camp]

After being handpicked by Dr.Carmencita Padilla – then director of the Institute of Human Genetics of the National Institutes of Health (NIH, UP Manila), The UPLB Genetics Society accepted the proposal of being the pioneer youth organization of an advocacy-awareness program regarding Folic Acid Supplementation and its importance in the prevention of birth defects. One of the major components of the proposal is the orientation of youth leaders from various university- and community-based organizations nationwide. The event materialized as the Institution and Planning Workshop of the Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health-Philippines or the First VYLH-Philippines National Youth Camp held last July 2009 in Tagaytay City. From then on, the program was elevated to the national level. Within the University, the organization continues to network youth organizations which led to the formation of the the network's Los Banos Chapter.
