This January 2012, The UPLB Genetics Society will hold its 7th Genetics Camp focusing on Newborn Screening, Rare Diseases and the Importance of Folic Acid Supplementation. This will be an avenue on helping the Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health - Philippines (VYLH-Philippines) in increasing national awareness on newborn screening (NBS) from 35 to 43%. Moreover, it will be presenting the possible Orphan Disorders that can be detected through NBS and how its ill effects can be prevented. Targeting high school students throughout Luzon, the organization recognizes the need to disseminate information about the said topics being it in line with the Organization's advocacy, and its active and pioneering role in VYLH.
