This year’s theme: “GENEStability: Sustainable Agricultural Productivity through Genetics and Biotechnology” will focus on the importance of sustainable agricultural productivity and in what way Genetics, particularly Biotechnology, largely contributes to it. The camp will tackle how Biotechnology can be part of the solution—by enhancing the efficiency and therefore the productivity of agriculture, while at the same time reducing some of the detrimental effects (such as pesticides) of modern agriculture on the environment. In addition to it, this will also be an opportunity to inform us on the current state of Biotechnology in the Philippines.
Targeting high school students nationwide, the organization recognizes the need to disseminate information about the said topic, since one of its objectives is to introduce the science of Genetics and its various applications such as Biotechnology particularly in the field of Agriculture to the participants. It will also promote and increase awareness about the growing need for sustainable agricultural productivity in the Philippines.
