I have been teaching English and foreign languages ever since I started university many years ago. Now I am a teacher of English but in the past I taught both English and German. Currently I am teaching English in a secondary school in Italy. I teach students aged 14-19. Some love learning and also learning English, others , most of my students have difficulties in learning and thus my job is becoming more difficult. I forgot to tell you that I teach in Italy: it is going to change soon, they say they want to change the school system, and my hope is to have the chance of working in a better school, with more tools and learning environments. Now we have to struggle against many problems, among them there are problems dealing with technology and resources for financing more activities at school. In the past I worked in afternoon courses and I taught CAMBRIDGE FIRST CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH and PET exams, now I cannot do it because we have fewer helps from the State and my students cannot afford to pay for more lessons in the afternoon and do extra activities.
The recession has changed the conditions of States and also Italy is under pressure: we need to reform and better the system of education but we need to cope with the lack of money.
I am a long-life learner and I wish my students could do more after leaving school and use languages for studying, working and also travelling. Learning a foreign language can open you to the world. It is up to you and to us to grasp the beauty of learning a language. Today English is used widely and it should be mastered in all the skills by everybody.
