JPS version, done in 1917. The Holy Scriptures According to the Masoretic Text: A New Translation. Philadelphia: Jewish Publication Society of America reads as follows:

"For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder; and his name is called Pele-joez-el-gibbor (See END NOTE) -Abi-ad-sar-shalom."

The 1985, and the revised e-edition of 1997, render Is. 9:5b as:

"... he has been named "The Mighty God is planning grace (d);

The Eternal Father, a peaceable ruler."

(d) = as in 25:1

Many question why the the JPS 1917 transliterate this portion of the passage as opposed to translating it. The reason is quite obvious. Christian translations have traditionally understood this prophecy to refer to "Jesus", and then used this quite complicated name as a series of messianic titles. The JPS wanted to avoid this, and to emphasize that this is a (real or symbolic) personal name. Just like "Jonathan" is not translated "Yahweh-has-given" in the A.K.J.V. of the Bible. The A.K.J.V. does not translate "Immanuel" in 7:14 and etc. as "God-is-with-us".

The Hebrew for "mighty god" in Isaiah 6:9 is gibbor el, which is nearly the same Hebrew as the name of the angel Gabriel.

Webmaster's Comment:

For not having a better explanation of this passage, I have on a number of occasions in the past explained that the A.K.J.V. reads "... his name shall be CALLED ...", not that his name IS all of these names. This passage is worded in a future tense. Understanding this passage as a future prophecy concerning Yahshua, would this not stand true? Is he not given all of these attributive names/titles at this time? I have since come to a better understanding of this passage. None of these are his GIVEN name (singular) though. There was only one name ("... for there is NONE OTHER NAME under heaven GIVEN among men ..." Acts 4:12) GIVEN to him at birth.

A messenger ("malak, angel") of Yahweh conveyed to Yahseph [Joseph] that he was to call his name Yahshua and he did as the messenger of Yahweh had told him.

"And [Yahseph] knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name YAHSHUA. (Matthew 1:25)

The name Yahshua was GIVEN to him by Father Yahweh which was conveyed through His messenger.

"Wherefore Yahweh also has highly exalted him, and GIVEN him a name which is above every name: ..." (Philippians 2:9)

Father Yahweh Is Our Supreme Redeemer

The Name YAHshua means 'YAHweh Is Redeemer'. Yahshua came in the Name of our Heavenly Father and Creator (Yahchanan [John] 5:43). Father Yahweh is our Supreme Redeemer THROUGH his son Yahshua. Yahshua said "No man comes unto the Father, but by me." (Yahchanan [John] 14:6). Yahshua is our advocate with Father Yahweh (1 John 2:1). He is our mediator with Father Yahweh (I Timothy 2:5).

The Net Bible has this interesting note on the title gibbor el ("mighty God"):

"probably an attributive adjective ("mighty God"), though one might translate "God is a warrior" or "God is mighty." Since this title is apparently used later (10:21, but cf. Hos. 3:5) for God, some have understood it as pointing to the king's deity. Others argue that the title portrays the king as God's representative on the battlefield, whom God empowers in a supernatural way (see Hayes and Irvine, Isaiah, 181-82). The latter sense seems more likely in the original context of the prophecy. Having read the NT, we might in retrospect interpret this title as indicating the coming king's deity, but it is unlikely that Isaiah or his audience would have understood the title in such a bold way. Ps 45:6 addresses the Davidic king as "God" because he ruled and fought as God's representative on earth. Ancient Near Eastern art and literature picture gods training kings for battle, bestowing special weapons, and intervening in battle. According to Egyptian propaganda, the Hittites described Ramses II as follows: "No man is he who is among us, It is Seth great-of-strength, Baal in person; Not deeds of man are these his doings, They are of one who is unique." (See M. Lichtheim, Ancient Egyptian Literature, 2:67) Isa. 9:6 probably envisions a similar kind of response when friends and foes alike look at the Davidic king in full battle regalia. When the king's enemies oppose him on the battlefield, they are, as it were, fighting against God himself."

Notice that the NetBible scholars are Trinitarians, yet they are realistic and fair minded enough to recognize that gibbor el is not a title of deity. Other scholars agree.

Actually, the passage is not a particularly good one for Trinitarians. It would help the Oneness folks a lot more. The Trinitarian does not regard Jesus as the Father, yet the passage says he shall be called "everlasting father." The Trinitarian has to do all sorts of twisting to insist that "gibbor el" should be taken as telling us that Jesus is God, but then the next phrase they have to explain away to tell us that he is not the Father.

Isaiah 9:6

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Ever lasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (KJV).

It seems that the Name which was to be given to Yahshua, the Son of Yahweh the Father, is a descriptive Name or Title which honors Yahweh. The Messiah came "in his Father's Name" (John 5:43). Below are quotations from several versions of the Bible which help to make clear the meaning of Isa. 9:6.

This Son was to be given names (or titles) which describe, honor and extol the heavenly Father in his exulted position. It is not that every one of these names describe the person and attributes of the Son to be born. Take the name Eliyah. The meaning is, "Yah is El." This does not mean that Eliyah was El. Instead, Eliyah describes and reveals who Yahweh is; Yahweh is El. Many other names could be cited. So it is with Isa. 9:6. These names describe the grandeur and glory which the heavenly Father is entitled to receive.

Isa.9:6 reads, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Take a long hard look at Isa 9:6. Can you find anywhere in the entire Bible where the Son is called “Wonderful?” Can you find anywhere in the entire Bible where the Son is called “Counselor?” Can you find anywhere in the entire Bible where the Son is called “The mighty God?” Can you find anywhere in the entire Bible where the Son is called “The everlasting Father?” Can you find anywhere in the entire Bible where the Son is called “The Prince of Peace?” Not a one! Why is He never called the names Isaiah said He would be called? Take another long hard look and you will see the word NAME, not names. It is a single name! Oneness, many times have pointed this out to Trinitarians when discussing Mt 28:19, so they should be well aware of the difference.

These five descriptive titles are not really five different names, but are instead, one long, multiple name. Here are a few versions of the Old Testament that recognize this.

It seems that this name that was given to Yahshua the Son is a descriptive name or title which honors Yahweh His Father. Not unusual since Yahshua, the Son’s name, also honors the Father, meaning Yahweh is salvation. Notice the Jewish Version above, by means of hyphens, fastens them all together into one name or title, which the Messiah is to wear. The attributes that are revealed in this title are ascribed to the Father because, as we’ve said many times, Yahweh accomplishes everything by and through His Son.

The verse that changed one Jewish “rabbi’s” life.

-Concerning Yesh’yahu 9:6 , the verse that caused one orthodox Jew, rabbi Isidor Zwirn, to become a believer in Yeshua. Isidor, in order to be accepted into the Yeshivah Rabbenu Yaacov Yoseph in New York city had to begin learning how to read the Hebrew prayers of the Siddur by age 3 and comprehend them by age 6. Then upon being accepted into the Yeshiva, the Torah became his text book that they studied daily every school day.

Every verse of Torah was required to be studied and discussed among classmates, and the meaning of each individual letter of each Hebrew word also had to be understood, and sometimes the meaning of a whole passage would hinge on the meaning of one single letter of one single word in the passage. He was completely and utterly fluent in Hebrew. He was also trained in the 3 rules of haMidrash of “respect for others views”, of “the thorough investigation of everybody else’s views in addition to your own”, and of “if two opposing views cannot be resolved, then they must be temporarily be set aside, until another view is provided that resolves the conflict and/or harmonizes the two positions”.

This man ultimately became a chief Rabbi, and the head of the Zionists studies program (His Zionist studies are what led Him to Yeshua), at an Orthodox synagogue in Burbank California where he was forcefully removed from behind the bema by police after he declared His belief in Yeshua as the long awaited Messiah of Israel.

This is Isidor’s literal translation of Yesh’yahu 9:6, the translation of which caused Him to believe that Yeshua had to be the Messiah. This is what he wrote concerning the words “Pele yoez el gibbor avi ad sar shalom”, he says “I read those last 8 Hebrew words, letter by letter, then translated them into English. ‘And they shall call his name a wonderful Counselor to the Almighty God and Everlasting Father, (also) Prince of Peace’.” Then he says, “This could be no other than the Messiah! Because certainly no finite being could counsel the Almighty God”.

So, Isidor, with his expertise in Hebrew and very in depth methodological study habits when studying Yesh’yahu 9:6 concluded from a purely unbiased linguistical perspective that Yeshua was a counselor to Yahuweh – a counselor to the Almighty God. In other words, as Yahuweh’s “right hand man”, and is the verse that forever changed his life. This is on page 56 of his book “A rabbi’s Search for Messiah”. So does this mean that Yeshua is not God? If it means He is not God, can Yeshua still be Elohim? Is there a difference in these two words?

Proof # 11 the Messiah DID NOT Pre-Exist!

Isaiah 9:6. It is generally known in scholarly circles that the King James Version of the Bible contains literally THOUSANDS of mistakes and deliberate fraud. The trouble is, even though the scholars admit this fact no one wants to buck the system and correct these mistakes! No one, it seems, wants to suffer the persecution this entails. The King James translation of Isaiah 9:6 is just one of these cases of deliberate fraud foisted off onto deceived people. This translation infers that the SON (Yeshua the Messiah) was the "mighty God"; that he was the "everlasting Father" -- in other words, that he was PRE-EXISTENT! Let us set the record straight and present the TRUTH about that lie. Isaiah 9:6 in the King James Version has KEY words that are mistranslated --

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the govern-ment shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The first word underlined -- which has been translated "Wonderful" -- is word #6382, from word #6381 in Strong's Hebrew Dictionary --

6382. .... pele', peh'-leh; from 6381; a miracle:- marvellous thing, wonder (-ful, -fully).

In its original form this word was not the adjective "Wonderful" in Isaiah 9:6, but the NOUN "wonder" -- and it is also part of the phrase pele-yaotz, as the Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament shows. The word "Counsellor" -- although relatively accurately translated -- is translated from the Hebrew word "yaotz," word #3289 in Strong's Hebrew Dictionary; but the word "yaotz" is clearly shown from the previous reference to be part of a PHRASE -- not words with separate meanings! If you check it out for yourself you will see that this phrase actually means: "WONDER of a Counselor"! See how deceptive the translators have been? The "WONDER" of the Counselor is the Ideal Ruler foretold to come -- which The Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testa-ment (p. 419) clearly and emphatically shows.

Now, WHO is this "Counselor," of Whom this child who is to be BORN is to be a "WONDER" or an Ideal Ruler? In the next words mistranslated in the King James Version we find the answer to this question.

The words "MIGHTY" and "GOD" in the King James Version -- as well as other mistranslated versions -- were translated from the Hebrew words "GABUR" AND "EL," words #1386 and #410 in Strong's Hebrew Dictionary. According to the Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament (p. 149), the word "GA-BUR" is a word that means "mighty."

The Soncino Talmud,The Babylonian Talmud, Seder Nezikin, Sanhedrin, 94a, translated by Dr. I. Epstein, shows the word "EL" to mean "judge" in this particular place!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the govern-ment shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called [i] Wonderful, [ii] Counsellor, [iii] Mighty, [iv] Judge.*

Yes, judgment has been given into the hands of Yeshua the Messiah -- just as Acts 10:38-42 emphatically tells us --

How God [YEHOVAH] anointed Jesus [Yeshua] of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God [YEHOVAH] was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God [YEHOVAH] raised up on the third day, and showed him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God [YEHOVAH], even to us who ate and drank with him after he arose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God [YEHOVAH] to be JUDGE of the living and the dead.

The Messiah will be the JUDGE appointed by YEHOVAH God, whose JUDGMENT -- according to YEHOVAH's judgments -- will bring peace to this earth. And because Yeshua the Messiah will command that each and every word YEHOVAH God has spoken is to be obeyed -- completely – the Messiah will BE "The Prince of Peace."

The Hebrew words "el" and "gabur" -- when properly translated -- would be writ-ten in this fashion: "JUDGE OF THE MIGHTY." Therefore, Isaiah 9:6 is translated word for word as:

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us, and is called His Name, Wonder of the Counselor, the Judge of the Mighty Father Everlasting, Prince of Peace.

As a result, Isaiah 9:6, when properly translated into modern English, will read as follows:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulders. And his name will be called the WONDER of the Counselor, the JUDGE of the Mighty Everlasting Father -- the PRINCE of peace.

As pointed out, the COUNSELOR is "The Mighty, Everlasting Father – YEHOVAH God Himself! As the Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament (p. 810) points out, Isaiah 9:6 is showing that this "WONDER" (Messiah the Judge) of the "COUNSELOR" (YEHOVAH the Father) -- Yeshua the Messiah who is the Ideal Ruler -- was YET TO COME when this prophecy was spoken! The Messiah DID NOT exist in the time of Isaiah the prophet, but he was prophesied to come later.

And -- and please take careful note of this – the Messiah WAS NOT "The Mighty God, the Father" -- as the fraudulent translators of the King James Version of the Bible, as well as the rest of the deceived world, would like for YOU to believe! When this scripture is properly translated it agrees totally with all the other inspired scriptures of YEHOVAH God. It was not the inspired prophets of YEHOVAH who were trying to teach of a "pre-existent god-savior." It was the PAGAN TRANSLATORS -- adding to or deleting from the original inspired word of YEHOVAH God, who caused this grave error to be taught to this whole deceived "Christian" world as "doctrine."

Isaiah 7:14 & 9:6, Who, What?

Most people who read Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6 from the King James Version would automatically assume the verse is referring to a person commonly called "the man of Galilee." A casual reading would seem so especially if either verse is pulled out of context.

Between Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6 three different signs were given and all three are concerned with a name that is to be given to a son. The sign is not that there is a son; the sign is the name that is to be given to that particular son.

If we look closely at these passages in Scripture, we will find that the mother's condition is different in all three cases. In one instance the mother is already pregnant; in another, the mother must be impregnated; and in the last one, the son had already been born when these series of passages were given.

The problem with the King James Version is that its translation of the Old Testament is based primarily on the Septuagint and Latin Vulgate. Jewish scholars translated the first five books of the Hebrew text into Greek and later Greek and Roman scholars translated the remaining portions into Greek. Still later other Greek and Roman scholars translated the Septuagint into the Latin Vulgate and both of the versions are of the Catholic Church.

The King James Version of the Old Testament is based primarily on the Septuagint. Thus, the KJV text has gone from the original inspired Hebrew through a translation into Greek and then into English. In some cases in the Old Testament the text is based on the Latin Vulgate which was translated into English.

If that was not bad enough, the King James english of 1611 is archaic and difficult to understand. The information in the archaic King James Version had already undergone two Catholic revisions before the King James boys got their hands on it.

Isaiah 7:14

To understand Isaiah 9:6, we must go to the beginning of the story in Isaiah 7:1. However, in chapter 7 verse 14 is another enigma that we must first solve. The KJV states:

Isaiah 7:14. Therefore ETERNAL Himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Any child who has ever attended summer Bible School will tell you, "Yep, that is him all right, the man from Galilee." However, is it?

We will begin by asking you a serious question: What is "the sign" and who was ETERNAL giving "the sign" to? In order to answer that, we need a brief history lesson first. The setting is around 735 BCE and the king of Assyria, Tiglath-pileser III, and his people were doing what Assyrians have always done. They were invading nations or peoples and therefore, were invading, conquering, raping, pillaging, destroying, and terrorizing as they have always done. What can I say, that is just what they do!

The setting in the land of Israel at that time was that the Davidic Kingdom of Israel had split in two. However, this series of verses will conclude with its reunification.

The capital of the ten tribes (the House of Israel) was Samaria in the north and the capital of two tribes (the House of Judah) was Jerusalem to the south. The king of Israel was Phacee, the king of Judah was Achaz, and the king of Syria (or Aram) was Rasin.

Tiglath-pileser (the King of Assyria) was invading southward through Phoenicia and down into the Mesopotamian area. He went through Aram and Israel like a wrecking ball and kings Rasin and Phacee were forced to pay tribute to Tiglath-pileser. As vassals to Tiglath-pileser, they were forced to do everything that the conquering king demanded which was a very humiliating situation for them. To try to remedy the situation, Rasin and Phacee formed an alliance and invited King Achaz of Judah to join their pact and help them fight against King Tiglath-pileser.

King Achaz did not join their alliance nor join an attack against Assyria so King Rasin and King Phacee decided to attack Jerusalem. Their plan was to force Achaz to join their alliance and together attack Assyria or they would assassinate him and set up somebody else in that area that would join them.

This little history background brings us to Isaiah chapter 7 with the two armies attacking Jerusalem but not making much headway. In verses 2 through 7, King Achaz (of Judah) realizes his predicament and seeks help from the Prophet Isaiah. ETERNAL sends Isaiah and Isaiah's son Shearjashub to King Achaz to tell him not to fear the alliance because The Mighty One will protect him. Shearjashub is the first son mentioned in this passage. Obviously, Isaiah's son had already been born. Shearjashub's name means "a remnant will return."

Isaiah's message from ETERNAL was given to Achaz. Achaz was assured that the other kings' plan would not succeed and neither king would increase their power or boundaries from Judah. In addition within sixty-five years, Ephraim (Israel) would be crushed and broken. Achaz was having trouble believing Isaiah's message so ETERNAL sent him another word:

Isaiah 7:8-11. You don't believe Me? If you want Me to protect you, you must learn to believe what I say. Ask Me for a sign to prove that I will indeed crush your enemies as I have said. Ask anything you like, in heaven or on earth.

Starting in verse 12, the king refused and said:

Isaiah 7:12-13. "No, I will not ask or test ETERNAL." Then Isaiah said, "O House of David, you aren't satisfied to exhaust my patience; you exhaust ETERNAL's as well!

Next comes verse 14:

Isaiah 7:14. Therefore ETERNAL Himself shall give you a sign; behold, a "virgin" (H5959) "shall" "conceive" (H2030), and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.

The KJV in Isaiah 7:14 uses the English word "virgin" which is translated from the Greek Septuagint. In the Hebrew the word "`almah" (al-maw' H5959 in Gesenius') states "a young woman, a maiden, a youthful spouse recently married. The idea of unspotted virginity is not that which this word conveys."

In addition, the word "shall" is NOT in the Hebrew. The addition of this word seems to make this a matter that would happen at some distant time. The English word "conceive" comes from the Hebrew word "hareh" (H2030. Haw-reh' in Strong's) is from H2029 which is "harah" (haw-raw'). It is a primary root meaning, "to be pregnant." Thus, the young woman in question was not to become pregnant but she was already pregnant.

The "sign" was to be that she would name the child a certain name and that particular name was to be "Immanuel." Thus Achaz, who must have known the girl and that she was already pregnant, would then realize that The Mighty One of Israel was protecting him. If this was a woman that King Achaz did not know, if it was just somebody that lived down the street that he had no knowledge of, the fact that she was pregnant and had a child which she named "Immanuel" would not mean anything to him.

However, if it was someone that he already knew, let's say, a relative maybe a niece, then in a short time after he got the special message from the CREATOR, if someone came up to him and said, "By the way, your niece had a son and she named him "Immanuel" which means "our CREATOR is with us," then he would be assured that what Isaiah told him was true. Hopefully, the fulfillment of Isaiah's message would have rung a bell in Achaz's mind and he would have thought, "Oh yeah, that's what the CREATOR told me."

Stop and think about this for a moment. Theoretically, if Achaz's message was to be a prophecy about a "supposed man of Galilee," how was ETERNAL'S message going to benefit Achaz in his present situation in 735 BCE due to the fact that the Galilean would not even be born for over 700 more years? That would be as if ETERNAL had told him: I am going to give you a sign that these two armies are not going to annihilate you but the sign will not happen for 735 years from now. That would not be very comforting to Achaz because by then all parties involved would have long since died and he would have been just as well off without such a sign.

Therefore, if this was truly a prophecy about "a man from Galilee," it really is not that much of a sign that is going to help Achaz. It is not going to benefit him at all. In other words, what the Protestants and Catholics say this verse means is just pure nonsense. It is not a dual meaning either because pulling verses out of context is a Catholic/Protestant theological scheme to shore up their invented estological (end time) ideas.

Are you beginning to see the dishonesty in any translation that is based on the Septuagint? This one verse should be reason enough to scrap the Septuagint because this one false verse is something that the Catholic/Protestants have built a total false religion around. The whole basis of the Catholic/Protestant religion is that "a man from Galilee" was born of a virgin to be "the savior of the world." To prove it they quote Isaiah 7:14 from a Greek translation that came out of the Roman Catholic Church. The name "Immanuel" is the key because if it were a prophesy about a Galilean why wasn't he named Immanuel? The prophecy says, "she will name him Immanuel" but no Galilean known was named Immanuel. In addition this "Immanuel" would know right and evil, thus he was a sinner like all of humankind.

Did ETERNAL's true sign come true? Yes. Check it out in 2 Kings 16:7-9. Within three years, in 732 BCE, the Assyria army destroyed King Rasin and his army. Thus, we see that in three years or by the time Immanuel learned to reject the evil and choose the good, Judah had been delivered from harms way.

The latter part of chapter 7 and the first of chapter 8 shows that even with the sign Achaz did not trust ETERNAL enough to leave the matter to Him to solve. Instead Achaz paid Tiglath-pileser to save him and brought condemnation upon himself. The final outcome of that scenario is that Achaz (a Jew) paid the Assyrians to capture Israel.

Another Child Sign

Then in verse 3 we have another son's name as a sign, but this time it is to be Isaiah's son and he must impregnate his wife. The child's name is Mahershalalhashbaz, which means "haste the booty, haste the spoil.

Isaiah 8:4. Before this child shall have knowledge to cry out "my father and my mother" both Syria and Israel will fall.

Starting in Isaiah 8:6, ETERNAL states that since the people of Jerusalem are planning to refuse His gentle care and were enthusiastic about asking Kings Rasin and Phacee to come to aid them, then ETERNAL will overwhelm them with Euphrates' mighty flood. The king of Assyria and all his mighty armies will rage against them. This flood will overflow all its channels and sweep into the land of Judah. However, the people are told not to fear anything except ETERNAL and if they fear Him they need not fear anything else, for He is their Rock of salvation. But Israel and Judah refused His care and stumbled on ETERNAL, their Rock.

Verse 14 is also taken out of context to try to help validate a Galilean as a savior. However, in context the message is clear even in the KJV:

Isaiah 8:13-15 (KJV). Sanctify ETERNAL of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. And He [ETERNAL] shall be for a sanctuary; but for a Stone of stumbling and for a Rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin [trap] and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

Notice ETERNAL said He shall be a sanctuary for both houses of Israel. When will that be? Since it has not happened yet, it is prophesied for a future time. Therefore, in the text flow, The Mighty One is beginning to bring focus on the latter days. I will quote the next few verses from The New English Bible since it is written in later plainer English.

Isaiah 8:16-18 (TNEB). Fasten up the message, seal the oracle with my teaching and I will wait for ETERNAL who hides His face from the House of Jacob; I will watch for Him. See, I and the sons whom ETERNAL has given me are to be signs and portents in Israel, sent by ETERNAL of Hosts who dwells on Mount Zion.

...8:19-21. But men will say to you, "Seek guidance of ghosts and familiar spirits who squeak and gibber; a nation may surely seek guidance of its g-ds, of the dead on behalf of the living, for an oracle or a message?" They will surely say some such thing as this; but what they say is futile. So despondency and fear will come over them, and then, when they are afraid and fearful, they will turn against their king and their g-ds.

Isaiah is prophesying of the darkness ALL of Israel will be in from the destruction of the first Temple and their captivity until the building of the third Temple. The chapter breaks were added by Catholic monks and are an unnatural break in the text flow. Thus, the flow is from their darkness back then until their descendants see the light of their salvation in the New Kingdom age. Remember that Isaiah's first son's name means "a remnant will return" and in the latter days, the remnant of ALL Israel will return as the Davidic Kingdom is finally established.

Isaiah 8:22-9:2 (TNEB). Then, whether they turn their gaze upwards or look down, everywhere is distress and darkness inescapable, constraint and gloom that cannot be avoided; for there is no escape for an oppressed people. For, while the first invader has dealt lightly with the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the second has dealt heavily with Galilee of the Nations on the road beyond Jordan to the sea. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: light has dawned upon them, dwellers in a land as dark as death.

Isaiah now begins to show that the "Hope of Israel" is that ETERNAL will bring joy and gladness when He finally sets up His Messianic Kingdom. Here we see the final sign of a son. This one, just like the first one, had already been born. However, different than the first son, at the time of Isaiah, this son had already died.

Isaiah 9:3-7. Thou hast increased their joy and given them great gladness; they rejoice in Thy presence as men rejoice at harvest, or as they are glad when they share out the spoil. For Thou hast shattered the yoke that burdened them, the collar that lay heavy on their shoulders, the driver's goad, as on the day of Midian's defeat. All the boots of trampling soldiers and the garments fouled with blood shall become a burning mass, fuel for fire. For a boy has been born for us, a son given to us to bear the symbol of dominion on his shoulder; and he shall be called in purpose "wonderful," in battle "Elohim-like," "Father for all time Prince of peace." Great shall the dominion be, and boundless the peace bestowed on David's throne and on his kingdom, to establish it and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now and for evermore. The zeal of ETERNAL of Hosts shall do this.

How much plainer can it be? King David is the "Hope of Israel" to be the awakened and stand from the grave Messiah who, under ETERNAL, will finally bring peace and reunification to both houses of Israel in the eternal Davidic Kingdom. The Prophet Elijah will be awakened to turn the hearts of the children of Israel back to the faith of the fathers, the Abrahamic Hebrew faith.

In summary, do you really believe as those in the pagan heathen religions that a g-d, the holy ghost of a trinity, came to earth and had sex with a woman? Really, do you really believe that?
