Autumn Meeting 2018 - results and prizelist

posted 9 Oct 2018, 09:08 by Longrange Rimfireclub   [ updated 11 Oct 2018, 07:33 ]

Attached are PDF documents containing the scores made on 6 October and the list of prize winners.  I have examined the cards in detail and as a result, there are some subtle amendments to the provisional scores sent out on Sunday.  Apologies to those adversely affected.

For those who weren’t there, it was unfortunate that we picked a day of drizzle and moderate head wind, when both the day before and the day after were fine.  Nevertheless most competitors persevered and some excellent scores were made, particularly by Ben Stubbins and Rob Grice, who emerged the clear winner and runner-up in both MRSB and TRSB class.  Thanks are due to our range officer, Mike Mercer, and to the markers provided by Jim Stevens, both of whom endured a difficult day in unpleasant conditions.

See you all, no doubt, next season.

Derbyshire RA Challenge Match on 30 June 2018

posted 7 Jul 2018, 04:23 by Longrange Rimfireclub

The match was held at Thorpe Cloud on a very hot, dry day with a blustery wind. The captains agreed to fire 3 practice shots, 2 convertible sighters and 12 to count at each distance. It was agreed that Derbyshire would nominate 2 of their 8 firers and take the best 2 other scores, to compete against LRRFC’s team of 4.

In the event, LRRFC came out 30 points ahead, as you will see from the attached result sheet, so we now have our name on the trophy. Had DRA taken their 4 best scores, LRRFC would still have won by 19 points, so it was an emphatic victory. Thank you DRA for a most enjoyable day.

I look forward to next year and hope that a large LRRFC team will want to make the journey north.

LRRFC Summer Meeting at Bisley on Saturday, 9 June 2018

posted 11 Jun 2018, 16:23 by Longrange Rimfireclub   [ updated 11 Jun 2018, 16:23 ]

The LRRFC Summer Meeting took place at Bisley on Saturday, 9 June in generally dry and warm weather (a few spots of rain at 400 yards) and a gentle, slightly gusting wind from 1 or 2 o’clock. Scoring at 300 yards was high but competitors struggled more at 400, with a number of outers, hits and misses recorded. We were well supervised in good humour by Mike Mercer and the markers, provided by the NRA, were excellent. John Mead made the highest aggregate with an MRSB rifle, but the highest scores at both individual distances were made by TRSB competitors. The complete score sheet and prize list are attached >>> for your interest.

The next LRRFC event is the match v Derbyshire at Thorpe Cloud on Saturday, 30 June. We have 4 members coming from the south, but any other southerly members who would like to expand the team would be very welcome. Please let me know if you are minded to join us.

LRRFC Autumn Meeting Saturday 8th October 2017

posted 9 Oct 2017, 18:32 by Longrange Rimfireclub   [ updated 14 Oct 2017, 14:42 ]

Keith Ballard has produced the results and I attach three Excel files containing the orders of merit for 300, 400 and the aggregate.

Although I wasn’t there myself, I gather the wind was quite strong and difficult, and on the small targets the scoring was understandably low, but the rain cleared after a slight shower at the start of 300. Once again a TRSB competitor came out top – congratulations Ben, there’s obviously something to be said for shooting quickly like you usually do.

Looking forward to seeing you again next year & regards,

Richard Kenchington

Next Fixtures

posted 23 Jun 2017, 14:02 by Longrange Rimfireclub   [ updated 23 Jun 2017, 15:15 ]

Thursday 7 September, afternoon at Bisley. Practice targets at 300 and 500 yards. Please let me or Mike Townsend know if you wish to shoot.

Saturday 7 October, afternoon at Bisley. LRRFC Autumn Meeting. 300 and 400 yards. Entry forms will be circulated shortly. Please note that the suggestion that this meeting might be moved to 14 October has NOT materialised owing to lack of capacity on Century range.

I should of course have included in the Next Fixtures list, the Turbutt meeting at Thorpe Cloud, which I think will be held on Sunday 24 September this year. I will confirm the date in due course, but meanwhile if you wish to enquire, please call the organiser, Alan Pidcock on 01629 820084. The course of fire is 5 + 10 at 200, 300 and 500 yards and there are beautiful silver trophies for each distance and the aggregate.

Kind regards,
Richard Kenchington,

Derbyshire RA Challenge Match v LRRFC

posted 23 Jun 2017, 14:00 by Longrange Rimfireclub

The match took place as scheduled on Weds, 21 June in glorious hot weather, with a gentle but unreadable fishtailing wind.

LRRFC fielded a team of 4. It was agreed that DRA, who had the support of 7 competitors, would take their top 4 scores to count in the match, in recognition of the fact that two LRRFC competitors were shooting off a table and with a rest (the remainder shot TRSB).

The course of fire was 3 practice shots, 2 convertible sighters and 15 to count per man at 200, 300 and 500 yards. The result was close, DRA winning by a margin of 5 points. Few misses were recorded and nearly all shots were in the black at 200 and 300 yards, and on the target at 500.

Some excellent scores were made, particularly Peter Francis’s fine aggregate of 187 ex 225 and Tim Stubbins’s remarkable 72 at 200 yards.

Full details of scores made, and a few photographs, are attached.
