Content creation to help doers get more done
Intro to the Content Team
The Home Depot’s How-To team researches, writes and publishes new and updated how-to content, which includes buying, project and inspiration guides.
Guides and videos live on the homedepot.com DIY Projects and Ideas page and are linked to from across media channels including YouTube, and PLPs and PIPs, social media, email and print ads.
The guides are written for a nationwide, beginner DIY audience, with projects labeled in accordance with their level of difficulty and expected duration.
Each guide and video is tagged by department, class, category, topic, and keyword. Guides may be also tagged with season, room area and/or video. Videos can be featured in guides as the hero image. Guide tags allow them to be sorted within the ALP (Article List Pages), a collection of guides that can be filtered according to customer interests.
We offer three main types of guides:
•Buying guides educate customers before a big purchase by providing them with the information they need to make decisions.
•Project guides teach customers how to build/fix/install something with step-by-step instructions.
•Inspiration guides offer customers explorations of how to style or organize their space and also educational material to familiarize themselves with new ideas in the DIY space.
A fourth type of guide exists within the collection:
•Influencer guides educational and inspirational material authored by a host of social media influencers to introduce customers to new ideas and recommended products in the DIY space.
Contact the influencer team for information or updates on Influencer content: email Cindy Burgos or Brittany Kindred.
RESOURCE POD EYEBROW NAMING IN CONTENTFUL
The page URLs for guides have certain letters in the URL that indicate the type of guide. Using the key below the letters that appear in the guide URL will designate the eyebrow that should be used for the guide on the Resource module.
/c/ab/ = Use label Buying Guide
/c/alp/ = Use label DIY Guide
/c/ah/ = Use the label Project Guide
/c/ai/ = Use the label Inspiration Guide
/c/ap/ = Use the label Influencer Guide
*If there are unique use cases for the resource module that do not fit within these defined categories above the eyebrow, headline and subhead naming convention will be determined on a case by case basis.
