(to the tune of “O Come, All Ye Faithful”)
O come all ye Buddhists
And hear the genuine Dharma
Learn of loving kindness
And compassion
First, be impartial
Toward enemies, friends, and neutral beings
Neutralize aversion
Neutralize attachment
View faults as circumstantial
Mere appearances
With faith and diligence
And the guru’s blessing
Develop loving kindness
For the benefit of all
Feel tender love for
Your mother in this lifetime
See all beings as your mother
Appreciate their kindness
And wish to repay them
The bodhisattva way
Then loving kindness
Generates compassion
And superior aspiration
Leads to bodhicitta
Imagine your mothers
Suffering in all the realms
Unbearable awareness
Direct and non-conceptual
Will give rise to the longing
To liberate all beings
