Safety File

Under this policy the SWCYRA will establish a safety file to record incidents and ensure that, a culture of safety is being implemented by all clubs. This file will help the association to help all clubs to improve their safety by allowing learning’s from incidents to be gathered and shared for the benefit of all clubs.

The association Safety Co-ordinator will be responsible for maintaining this file. To facilitate this it is important to report all incidents. Examples of incident types that need to be reported include:

1. Collision through contact with static object, moving object, another rowing boat, navigation issue or poor visibility.

2. Health related incident.

3. Equipment failure including boat buoyancy, oars, gates, Personal Flotation devices, thrown lines.

4. Behaviour – Unacceptable behaviour of others.

Certain ‘near incidents’ should also be reported examples include:

1. Where sudden evasive action had to be taken to avoid a collision.

2. Where a boat is flouting navigation rules

3. Where a dangerous situation existed.
