Relevant Rules
The relevant rules relating to safety contained within the SWCYRA rule book are highlighted here. All participants, especially Coxswains, must be aware of these rules before taking part in any rowing activities:
Association Structure No.3. Insurance – All clubs must submit insurance policy at meeting prior to first regatta and must have adequate insurance policy.
Race Procedures:
No. 2. Stewards boat to be on location one hour before start of regatta and all stewards are to wear life jackets.
No. 4. If weather conditions are thought to be unfit or dangerous the regatta may be postponed or cancelled by Association and Regatta Committee 2 hours before stated start time.
No. 12. Each Cox is to wear club colours, weather permitting. All Coxes must wear a lifejacket.
No. 13. All crews under the age of 18 must wear a personal flotation device. If rule not adhered to – automatic disqualification.
No. 14. All crews under the age of 18 must be in the charge of an Adult Cox (over 18 years of age).
No. 15 b. In the interest of safety, it is recommended that a cox must remain seated at all times during a race. Automatic disqualification if rule not adhered to.
Regatta Committee Rules:
No. 6. Regatta Committees must provide a stewards boat, a safety boat and a committee boat. Subscriptions to be made towards safety boat by association.
No. 7. All Stewards boats must have a health and safety licence to carry association stewards at championship regatta.
No. 9 Safety boats should be present for all regattas.
No. 12. The safety boat is to follow each race where practical.
No. 13, Regatta committee must keep the race course clear of all other craft where possible.
Other Rules & Laws:
In addition to the rules highlighted above all rules outlined in the “Memorandum of Association of the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation Ltd” must be complied with at ICRF events. (Document attached)..
The relevant laws of the Republic of Ireland covering water safety must also be complied with at all times when engaged in rowing activities.
