Chaiban Engineering Consultants, Inc. (CEC) has been providing a variety of professional structural engineering, consultation, inspection,expert witness and design services with quality, innovation and speed to a broad clientele since 1990.
We specilaize in providing innovative engineering solutions to complex variety of projects. One example is the historical building on Andrews Ave in Fort Lauderdale. The 150 year old building's structural walls were collapsing and the FL state placed strict requirements on preserving the old building. An innovative design employing a unique structural system inside the envelope of the building exterior walls, was able to support all floor, roof,walls and foundation loads, while preserving the exterior old walls look and satisfying the State requirements.

CEC’s vast knowledge and past experience in structural design and threshold inspections is a tremendous asset to customers from developers to business owners, public and county officials, and private residents.
Our state of the art information systems, combined with engineering expertise, experience and design software, enables the firm to lower our cost; thus passing the savings to our clients without compromising quality and speed. CEC’s organizational structure is referred to as a flat hierarchy, meaning no middle or operations managers. This structure, in combination with innovative information systems technology, is what allows us to cut labor costs and pass those savings on to our clients.
CEC is divided by engineering disciplines into five areas:
Civil engineering (which includes Structural, Drainage, Utilities and Foundations);
Mechanical Engineering;
Electrical Engineering;
Environmental Engineering and Surveying; and
Construction Management

These divisions are divided into independent teams which enable the firm to quickly & efficiently arrive at innovative, practical and economical solutions. The firm has developed a quality control program with various team members and are encouraged towards high achievement and open communication. Any ideas that will benefit overall quality, innovation, cost and speed are put into action, and the team member is rewarded. The design-build strategy of the firm enables us to service clients and take projects from the planning and design stage to the construction and production stage. At the initial stages of planning and design, our network of contractors are encouraged to provide practical ideas that are integrated in the final design, thus adding value to our clients.
During the construction phase, any design revisions or changes encountered in the field will be communicated to our teams and a solution provided immediately. This obviously impacts the progress of construction, and ensures that our projects are completed at the promised time. The organization implements the latest computer technologies in finding the most efficient and economical solutions to civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical disciplines, as well as surveying. Such software includes CADD, Micro station, Primavera Scheduler and other design software.
Joseph B Chaiban, President & CEO, holds a degree in Structural and Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. His graduate studies include a structural emphasis at Florida Atlantic University and an executive MBA from Florida Atlantic University. Primary areas of expertise are seismic analysis and design models using computer technology and matrixes. He has completed advanced research in concrete design of complex structures and foundations. Additionally, he has attained expertise in roadway and utilities design and construction management. Past employment includes prestigious firms such as Florida Department of Transportation; Turnpike Authority; MK Centennial; Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan, Inc.; Keith & Schnars, P.A.; and Metric Engineering.
Joseph B. Chaiban, P.E., SI., is also known in the professional community for providing public speaking to schools in the area of engineering and how it affects our society’s future needs.
Mr. Chaiban invented the Compu-Ledger computer program which is capable of tracking quantities of materials used in the construction of roadways, buildings and highways for multiple FDOT projects that occurred in November, 1988 through October 1996.

Chaiban Engineering Consultants, Inc., was recently presented, by the City of Oakland Park, with the “Best-Looking Building In Oakland Park Award” for the Chat-N-Chew Diner. The firm offers a variety of services to clients such as structural and design analysis, complex concrete testing and monitoring, drainage and utility design and analysis, building design analysis and inspections, wind loads, engineering management and evaluations, foundation and pile design, forensic engineering, roadway and asphalt design, bridge design, construction management, claims analysis and architectural design.
