Sea Creature Bingo (Used Print Bingo to design my Water Creature Bingo Cards. Used Microsoft Office Clipart to add pictures. Printed on colored paper in black ink. Used dry beans as markers. Insterad of saying "bingo," the kids had to say "water.")

Take Away: Make a Splash Fortuneteller (from pp. 121 & 136 of CSLP manual)
Week 2: Tall Tales
(Idea from CSLP manual p. 90)
Short PowerPoint introducing the kids to Tall Tales (characteristics, popular characters)
Read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett
Let the kids write their own tall tales or create a tall tale hero/heroine and draw a picture of them.
Week 3: Pirate Party
Opening Activities: Choose pirate names (use the child's name and add a few words. Example: Dana the Dreadful. Kids get name tags for their pirate names), color parrots for game (template on p. 164 of CSLP manual)
Pirate Knowledge:
Pirate Vocabulary (ahoy, matey, yo-ho-ho, shiver me timbers, argh)
Information from Pirates: A Nonfiction Companion to Pirates Past Noon by Will Osborne & Mary Pope Osborne about famous pirates (Blackbeard, Mary Read, Anne Bonny), pirate food, weapons, and ships.
Game: Pin the Parrot on the Pirate (p. 152 of CSLP manual)
Crafts:
Eye patches (eye patech made out of craft foam, the kids decorate with markers and stickers. Use yarn for ties.)
Pirate Ships (Adapted from the Toy Boat craft on p. 158 of CSLP manual: make the mast 1 and 1 half straw lengths, have kid sdecorate their pirate flags and sails.)
Prize Drawing: All kids were entered in a prize drawing. The lucky winner took home a copy of Pirates: A Nonfiction Companion to Pirates Past Noon by Will Osborne & Mary Pope Osborne
Refreshments: Hardtack (vanilla wafers) and grog (green kool-aid)
Week 4: Outdoor Fun (Chalk the Walk & Beach Ball Games)
Supplies: beach balls, sidewalk chalk
Preparation: None
Agenda: Let the kids toss around beach balls and draw on the library's sidewalks with chalk.
Prize Drawing: Gave away sidewalk chalk, play-dough, and bouncy balls.
Inclement Weather Plan: If it rains, we'll play the games we played during Week 1.
Week 5: Sea Serpent Party
I shared some information abou the United States' every own sea serpent, Champ from Lake Champlain. (Find it here.) I also showed the children some pictures of sea serpents and water dragons that I got from Microsoft Office clipart.
Games: Sea Serpent Race (CSLP manual pp. 111-112 ), Sleeping Sea Serpents (CSLP manual p. 111)
Craft: Design your own sea serpent (children provided with blank paper, pencils, and crayons)
Snack: Gummi sea serpents (gummi worms) and lemonade
