Meeting Notes May 19, 2021

A virtual meeting was held starting at 8PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 using the Hawkwood Baronial Zoom account. Present at the meeting wereTheir Excellencies Hawkwood, Lady Adair, Lady Lacrecia, Lady Franceska, Lord Arias and Cody Singleton.

Exchequer Report - Lady Adair reported that the canton now has its own checking account at First Citizens Bank and that our initial deposit was just under $500. She also mentioned the importance of fundraising to increase our fledgling account.

Arts and Sciences Report - Lady Lacrecia reported that there is plenty of A&S going on in the canton. She is planning on organizing some A&S classes in July. She also requests that the populace keep her informed of any A&S projects they are working on so that she may include those in her reports.

Chatelain Report - Lady Franceska reported that she attended the Kingdom Chatelain meeting and that she gained some new ideas she would like to try. She would like to create T-Shirts with the canton’s heraldry which could be sold as a fundraiser. She also mentioned that tokens such as belt favors a.k.a. “Butt flags”could be made and given out to the populace. It would be especially important to give these favors to newcomers as a welcoming gesture.

Web Minister Report - Lord Arias reported that he will continue to update the website with the current status of the Kingdom Covid stage. At the time of the meeting, Stormwall along with Hawkwood and the majority of the kingdom was in Phase 0. He also requested photos to post to the website.

Old Business

Art Walk in Murphy - This will be a demo event in Murphy, NC on Friday June 4, 2021 starting at 5pm and ending at 8pm. Lady Lacrecia will learn the details of exactly where we can set up our demo. Lord Arias will provide a small list and will try to have a few rapier fighters on hand for demonstrations.

Sylva Farmers Market in Sylva - This is another demo event but in Sylva, NC on Saturday July 17, 2021 from 8am to noon. Lady Adair will contact the city of Sylva to see if an insurance form is required. We hope to have a small list for rapier and armoured fighting as well as A&S exhibits.

Greening Up The Mountains - This is an all day street event downtown Sylva to be held Saturday August 28, 2021 starting at 9am and will continue until around 4pm. This will be another demo opportunity with A&S exhibits and demonstrations of rapier and armoured fighting. Lady Adair will fill out the correct application form with the city and to see if we can have our usual spot..

War of the Wings - WOW will be a 7 day event on October 10-17, 2021 - There is still a lot of planning to be done for this event but there are still too many unknowns for any serious planning as of now.

Gulf Wars - The event typically held in the Spring will be held October 2 - 10, 2021

New Business

Her Excellency Hawkwood informed the populace that there is an opportunity for hosting an in person event for the upcoming Coronation on June 26th, 2021. We could hold an in person official event to celebrate coronation but we must submit a request to the kingdom seneschal by June 1, 2021 to receive a variance to the regular in person event policy. She also stated that we were welcome to host small in person, unofficial gatherings to celebrate the coronation of our new monarchs.

Lord Arias reported that he met with the Swain County Manager, Kevin King, and discussed the possibility of using the new exhibition facility located at the former “Inspirations Park’ along Hyatt Creek Rd. This facility will include bathrooms and a covered livestock arena. This new venue has lots of flat ground which can be used for a medium to large sized event with camping.

The next meeting was set for Wednesday June 16, 2021 at 8pm.
