Job Description Music Committee Member
Position Summary
To promote leadership in developing and implementing music at events. Hosted by Start at the Foundation Project, and to actively engage the Staff, Interns, Volunteers, and donors through music.
Responsibilities
Coordinate music at all events (on and offsite) including any vocal and/or instrumental performances.
Work with the Music Committee in planning.
Coordinate music, media and overall music of the event with Creative Director and Event Chairperson.
Possibly provide musical accompaniment for event services, weddings, and funerals.
Direct the Band/Singers and Choir.
Recruit and encourage musicians, both vocal and instrumental, within the organization and promote the music program.
Maintain regular choir rehearsal and communicate weekly with music and choir members via email.
Select and purchase music within budget.
Prepare and transcribe instrumentation and vocal arrangements.
Plan special music for weekly events and special occasion and holidays.
Catalog and organize all music resources.
Oversee the care and upkeep of all instruments.
Provide the secretary and the Events Chairperson with song lyrics and other bulletin information.
Participate in the weekly staff meetings.
Be an active participant of the Special Events Committee and Administrative Council.
Attend continuing education events as approved to enhance and improve job skills.
Assist the Creative Director with other music projects as needed.
Offer suggestions and observations which would improve the organizations music
Assume such other duties as may be assigned by the Event Chairperson and Creative Director.
Qualifications
Music performance or equivalent experience.
Enthusiastic with good verbal and written communication skills.
Keyboard/clavinova experience preferred.
Ability to give and receive constructive criticism.
Ability to promote harmony in the workplace by maintaining good working relationships and supporting staff decisions.
Ability to give detailed attention to the duties for which he/she is primarily responsible while offering imaginative and creative thinking to the overall vision of Start at the Foundation’s Annual Benefit Gala
