Springers’ Track Club
qualifies nine for Regional Junior Olympic Track Meet
The
Glenwood Springers Track Club traveled to Denver this past weekend for the
Colorado Junior Olympic Track Meet held at All City Track where they qualified
nine athletes for the Regional J.O. Meet. Athletes have to score in the top
four to advance to the regional meet.
For the distance events, the
weekend started off with the 2000M-steeplechase race. Bryce Risner (15) and
Jacob Barsness (16) both competed in the race; Barsness came is second with a
PR (personal record) of 7:12 and Risner ran a PR of 7:33. Barsness also
qualified in the 1500M dash. Risner went on to qualify in the high jump and
triple jump. Daxton DeHerrera (7) qualified in both the 800M and 400M races.
She placed first in the 800M with a time of 3:13.95 and fourth in the 400M with
a time of 1:24.42. Reid Swanson (12) took first place in the 3000M in 10:50.11.
R. Swanson also placed first in the 1500M with a time of 5:04.39. Benjamin
Swanson (9) ran a personal best in both the 800M and the 1500M races clocking
2:38.57 and 5:13.35 respectively. Calvin Swanson (7) placed second in the 800M
(3:27.53) and third in the 1500M (6:34.35).
Burgandy DeHerrera (10) jumped a
personal best in the finals of the long jump- 9’8 ½”- and placed sixth. She
also competed in the 200M and 400M races where she accomplished personal bests.
Kuba Bartnik competed in the 100M, 200M, and 400M races. He ran personal bests
in all events and made it to the finals in the 400M dash clocking a 56.95 in
finals.
High School track athletes AJ
Crowley, Alex Cutright, and Larry Flores also participated in the meet and they
all qualified for the regional meet. Crowley competed in the long jump (5th-
19’6¾”), 110MH (6th-16.85), and 400MH (2nd- 1:01.6). Cutright
competed in high jump (1st), long jump, triple jump, and javelin (3rd).
Larry Flores competed in the 200M, 110MH (4th-17.54), and the 400MH
(3rd-1:01.27).
Reid, Benjamin and Calvin Swanson
along with Daxton DeHerrera and Jacob Barsness are planning to compete at the
Regional Junior Olympic Meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico July 7-10.
