Final Update of the Season

posted Jul 1, 2018, 2:46 PM by Abbey Walters

Hi Parents!

This will be my final update. Thank you for sharing your children with us; they are amazing and have done a remarkable job this season! You should be proud.

  • I forgot to take a team photo at the track meet. Please send your athlete to practice tomorrow in his/her team t-shirt so we can take the photo then.

  • The track meet was successful and it was wonderful to see all of the progress our athletes have made.  Thank you to all of our volunteers, coaches and sponsors! Putting on a meet is a lot of work and it can't be done without your support.
    • Meet results will be posted on our website soon: www.glenwoodspringers.club  Also, please keep your eyes peeled for an article in the paper about the event.

  • Our final practice will be tomorrow morning: Monday, July 2 from 9:00-11:00am.

  • Our end-of-season party will be Tuesday, July 3 at 5:00PM at Sayre Park in the lower gazebo. This is a potluck party and families are encouraged to join us. Please bring something to share! Families generally bring a side dish or main dish to share.  Springers will provide drinks, paper ware/plastic ware, activities and cake.
    • Your athlete's clean uniform is your ticket to the party! Please be sure to remove ALL STICKERS from the uniform before washing it. Please note that if you cannot join us for the party, uniforms can be returned to my home: 1505 Mountain Drive, GWS. Please leave uniforms on my front bench.

Finally, I would like to say a special thank you to our board president, Jenny Cutright, who is constantly working behind the scenes to keep this program running smoothly, safely, and efficiently. Please thank her when you see her!

With Gratitude,

Coach Abbey

Update Monday, June 25

posted Jun 27, 2018, 3:42 PM by Abbey Walters

Good Evening Springers Parents and Athletes,

Congrats to all of our athletes and coaches who competed this weekend at the Colorado State JO Championship Meet and the Lincoln Park Track Meet! Also, thank you to the coaches who supported our athletes at the meets.

Track Meet Updates:

  • Our home track meet is fast approaching! It is Saturday, June 30 at 8:00AM. Please bring your athlete to the track in uniform by 8:00AM. We will register athletes in events during practice this Thursday, June 28. If your child misses practice Thursday, he/she can register the day of the meet.

  • We are still in need of volunteers for our meet. Thank you to those of you who have already reached out to me or filled out the Google form stating that you are able to help. We still need help in the following areas: timing, shot put, long jump, and photography. Please email me if you are able to help us out with this. We can't do it without you!

  • This track meet is free for Springers athletes except for the relays, which require a $50 sponsorship. If you own a business, know of a business or would like to personally sponsor a $50 Relay, please let me know so I can add you to the sponsor list! This is our one fundraiser for the season and your contribution helps the team out tremendously.

  • This year, our meet will feature a "Fast Mile" before the track meet begins. If your son or daughter has previously run a 6:30 or faster mile, he/she is welcome to register for this event. The cost is $15 and Independence Run and Hike is awarding the top three women and men with cash or gift certificates. This is something new we are trying this year so please help us spread the word!

The season is quickly coming to an end. Our last practice will be Monday, July 2. Our party will be Tuesday, July 3 at 5:00PM at Sayre Park in the lower gazebo. This is a potluck party and families are encouraged to join us. Please bring something to share!  Springers will provide drinks, paper ware/plastic ware, and cake. Your athlete's clean uniform is your ticket to the party! Please be sure to remove ALL STICKERS from the uniform before washing it.

Thank you for a great season!

Coach Abbey

Good Afternoon Springers' Athletes and Parents,

  • Registration will take place at the meet. No need to do anything ahead of time. Springers is covering the entry fee for this meet.
  • Coach Alex will be at the meet. One of the reasons we wanted you to complete the Google Form (see my previous email) is so we have an athlete count and can send another coach/more support if need be.
  • Bring a water bottle and sunscreen! We will have a water jug for athletes to refill their water bottles with. We all know how hot Grand Junction is this time of year so be sure your athlete is rested and hydrated before the meet.

  • If your athlete is planning to compete in the Colorado State Junior Olympic Track Meet in Denver this weekend, he/she must obtain a USATF number by tonight to allow time to have his/her birth certificate verified. At this point, we cannot ensure that your athlete's age will be verified in time to compete. For multi events, our deadline is TODAY June 18. For single events, the deadline is WEDNESDAY, June 20.

    • Here are the directions again (they are also on the website):

        Updates Monday, June 4

posted Jun 4, 2018, 8:03 PM by Abbey Walters

A few updates and reminders for this week:

-Today was a hot one (90 degrees!) and the rest of the week is going to be just as hot. Please be sure to send your child to practice with a water bottle, sunscreen, and proper running attire so we can all stay safe. We have been filling and refilling our two water jugs to make sure our athletes are staying hydrated.

        - Please do not use the bus lane. Many parents are still using the bus lane daily to both pick up and drop off students. There are parking lots available along with an official student drop-off area; please utilize these areas instead of the bus lane. Just today, a bus came through and there was a car in the way.  This request is coming from the RFSD Transportation Department. I'm hoping to preserve our right to rent and use the facilities at the high school, and that means we need to honor their request. Thank you for your help with this!

-Uniforms, t-shirts and track bags are available. Please let your athlete know that I will pass these out at the end of practice every day.

        - If your athlete is planning to compete in the State Junior Olympic Track Meet in Denver the weekend of June 22-24, you will want to start the process of getting a USATF number and registering for the meet (Please see my email from last week- in this thread- for specific directions).

        Update 5/28/18

        posted May 30, 2018, 7:50 PM by Abbey Walters   [ updated May 30, 2018, 7:52 PM ]

        Good Afternoon!

We had an excellent first week with our Springers and we're looking forward to a fantastic remainder of the season.

A few updates and reminders for this week:

Remember: No practice tonight due to the Memorial Day holiday.

-I sent an email last week about not using the bus lane to drop off or to pick up your athletes for practice. Multiple parents are still using the bus lane so I'm asking again that you please DO NOT USE THE BUS LANE for any reason. You may think that there aren't any busses coming through, but there are events happening before, during and after practice and we cannot use this lane ever. Even when school is out for the summer, we still cannot use the bus lane because different clubs and programs run out of the high school and need this area to be clear. If we continue to have issues with this, it could lead to us losing our track rental.

-Uniforms, t-shirts and track bags will be distributed this Thursday, May 31 at the end of practice! Yippee!

-To sign up for any of the Denver meets (NOT REQUIRED), your child must first obtain a USATF number (see directions below), and then sign up through the "Meets" tab on our website (www.glenwoodspringers.club). This process can take several days so I recommend starting the process sooner rather than later. After you are on the "Meets" page, you will see the list of USATF Colorado Youth Track Meets with live links for registering. Click the link, and it will guide you through the process. Jenny Cutright did an excellent job creating this easy-to-use registration process so a big shout-out to her!

        - USATF membership directions:

USA TRACK AND FIELD (USATF) MEMBERSHIP
A USATF Membership is not required unless you are attending USATF sanctioned meets, but it is highly recommend for all athletes.
We are a USATF certified track program.
Memberships can be obtained online at www.usatf.org.
Click on “Become a Member” in the top right corner. You can use this link to join or renew your membership.

The Glenwood Springers’ Club number is 32-0103

After completing your registration, you will prompted to verify your child's age by emailing a copy of your birth certificate to: Lindsey Koch at membership@colorado.usatf.org

        From USATF Youth Colorado:

Important youth membership Information:   Athletes, Coaches and Parents -- remember that athletes cannot register or compete unless their birth date has been verified by USATF Colorado.  You must email a photocopy (scanned or picture from camera/phone) of their birth certificate, passport, drivers license or other legal document clearly showing Date of Birth.  E-mail to Lindsey Koch at membership@colorado.usatf.org
If you have a current 2018 USATF number and have had your birth date verified, you do not need to send in your birth date information. You may log into your USATF profile to confirm your birthday has been verified at https://www.usatf.org/members-only/index.asp

Please don't hesitate to email with questions.

        Thank you!

Thank you athletes and coaches for an amazing first day of practice!

        A few reminders and updates:
        • Please be sure to send your athletes to practice with proper running attire and a water bottle every day.
          • I do have a few pairs of lightly used shoes (size 7-8) that were donated to me so let me know if your athlete is in need.
        • Uniforms, t-shirts and bags will be distributed on Monday, June 4 and will be available any time I'm at practice after that point as well.
        • Many parents have asked about their athlete missing practice. Please know that practice is not mandatory. We know that this time of year is very busy and we don't have a practice requirement. The more your athlete can come to practice, however, the more he/she will get out of our program.
        • If you need to meet with me, after practice is your best bet. Also, free feel to email questions to me at abbeywalters@hotmail.com.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow- We will be completing a 400M dash and standing long jump baseline "test."
