Dream Dialogue
Dream dialogues are a fun way to learn about what the characters in your dream are trying to "teach" or tell you. Every character represents and aspect of yourself- in body, spirit, or mind. Dialogues allow you to take what the dreams lets you know about your character and reflect on that person by creating a dialogue based on your questions, and what the dream person would say in reply. (Note that the character doesn't really have to be a person, it can be an animal or object that you consider to be very much "alive".)
Here is an example dialogue from Ana Lora Garrard's book, An Invitation to Dream.
Tree Dialogue
Me: Tree, what do you have to tell me?
Tree: The earth is rich, it is deep, all kinds of life forms come out of it. You have your own fertile soil within you that is like the earth. Many dreams are ready to grow outward from it. Trust in this. Incubate the dreams that you would like to see growing in the physical world at this time. Feed them from the earth itself. Grow in places where you are fed by images of manifestation. Go to bookstores to feed your own writing. Go to art galleries to feed your art. Meet others who are manifesting. Trust yourself. The struggles come only when you forget what you already know. Nourish yourself, feed yourself with the joys of the earth, and practice remembering. The trees and earth will help remind you of the truths that you know.
Me: What part of me are you?
Tree: I am the channel through which your spirit connects with the earth. You have me within you but you forget this, because you much move in life and you get distracted thinking about all the choices of movement that are available to you. If you wish to remember the "me" that is in you, you might try visualizing youself as the "dancing tree". That way your receptive channel can be open and yet you can still feel strong and solid and be able to move in the physical world.
