Spiral Galaxy is a morphological classification of the galaxies in which matter is concentrated in the spiral arms. It is the most common type of the galaxy we have observed in the universe. Spiral galaxies have long arms winding towards or spiraling outwards from the central bright bulge and nucleus.
If the spiral shape of the galaxy is clearly visible to the observer, it is called a Face-on spiral galaxy. If the spiral galaxy is seen from the side, It is called Edge-on Spiral Galaxy. Face-on and Edge-on spiral galaxies aren't really any type; they only look different because of the angle from which an observer observes them.
Some spiral galaxies a bright central bar sunning through them. Such galaxies are called Barred Spiral Galaxies, while the galaxies without a bar are simply called spiral galaxies.
A type of spiral galaxy with a prominent, neat, and well-organized spiral structure.
A type of spiral galaxy in which arms are patchy and discontinuous.
A type of spiral galaxy characterized by a low contrast spiral arms, or simply, a galaxy with poor apparent distinguishable spiral arms. Such galaxies are relatively rich in gas and dust.
