Email from Finland regarding Radio Hage Somalia short wave.

17 April 2009.

Hi Sam,

I've been reading your excellent website.

Do you know if Radio Hage at Galkayo has any broadcasts on shortwave during local Somali evening hours?

I'd love to check if the signal reaches me here in Finland.

73,

Jari Savolainen

Finland

Hello Jari,

There is no evening broadcast from Radio Hage.

However a copy of your interest is simultaneously going to the Radio Hage director so that he will see your email expressing interest to receive Radio Hage Somalia in Finland.

I imagine that one day evening broadcasts will be possible which as you know is the time when reception of Somalia in both Europe and Australia is possible in the 43 metre band short wave.

73,

Sam Voron

Sydney, Australia.

18 April 2009.

Hi Sam,

Many thanks for your kind reply.

Hopefully there's a chance to make an evening test transmission on 6915 kHz some night.

The 3.980 MHz frequency is rather hopeless here due to other stations interfering.

6.915 MHz might be good, but I guess broadcasters will start using also this portion of the band in the future.

If you forward also this message to Radio Hage, I'd like to send my greetings to all the staff there. Great job!

Kind regards,

Jari in Finland.

Hi Jari,

Thanks. I have done.

To- Short wave broadcasting stations.

The United Nations International Telecommunications Union (ITU) radio frequency regulations required that short wave broadcast stations move out of the 7.100 to 7.200 MHz band by 29 March 2009.

The United Nations International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has made changes to the worldwide use of frequencies between 6.890 to 7.600 MHz.

This affects short wave broadcasting stations worldwide.

The United Nations ITU has relocated the 40 metre short wave broadcasting band and created a new short wave broadcasting band.

The United Nations ITU has created a worldwide amateur radio band from 7.000 to 7.200 MHz for two way amateur radio communications.

As of 29 March 2009 the new and larger relocated 40 metre short wave broadcast band is from 7.200 to 7.600 MHz.

Broadcasting stations using frequencies between 7.100 to 7.200 MHz should move to a new frequency in the new expanded 40 metre short wave broadcast band between 7.200 to 7.600 MHz.

7.000 to 7.200 MHz is the new expanded worldwide amateur radio two way communications band.

Amateur Radio operators in Somalia, Australia, New Zealand, America and some other countries can also use 7.200 to 7.300 MHz shared with broadcasting stations.
