After 18 May 1991 the Somaliland authorities have issued Somaliland amateur radio licenses, some with call signs that have already been allocated elsewhere.

When visiting Somaliland it is advisable for amateur radio operators to check the list of Somalia lifetime amateur radio call signs to assist the authorities avoid double issuing of call signs.

Somalia amateur radio licenses from 1993 to 2009 have been issued for free and for life (unless cancelled). As at 2009 none have been cancelled and all remain valid.

On the 1st August 1998 North-East Somalia became the Puntland State of Somalia. Puntland recognized North-East Somalia lifetime amateur radio licenses issued between 1993 to 1998.

From 1998 the Puntland state of Somalia issued lifetime amateur radio licenses.

Send an email copy of your Somaliland ham radio license with call sign and it will be listed here to avoid its allocation elsewhere for the duration of its validity.

6O0A was issued by Somaliland in 1999 to visitor JE9IKG from Japan in 1999 however 6O0A had been issued in 1993 in a Somalia visitor lifetime amateur radio license in North-East Somalia to VK2BVS from Australia.

6O0W was issued by Somaliland in 2004 to visitor DJ1QW from Germany however 6O0W had been issued in 1993 in a Somalia lifetime amateur radio license in North-East Somalia to Abdikarim Nur Mohamud, born in Galkayo and resident of both Australia and Somalia.

6O0X was issued by Somaliland in 1999 to visitor DJ6SI from Germany however 6O0X had been issued in 1997 in a Somalia visitor lifetime amateur radio license in North-East Somalia to VK6ZX (known later as VK4ZD) from Australia.

6O0Z was issued by Somaliland in 1999 to visitor DJ9ZB from Germany however 6O0Z had been issued in 1993 in a Somalia lifetime amateur radio license in North-East Somalia to the Radio Free Somalia Amateur Radio Club in Galkayo (known later as the Radio Galkayo Amateur Radio Club) in Galkayo, Somalia.

ARRL considers that these call signs (issued twice) are valid for award purposes since they were issued by the respective licensing authorities.

The number after the call sign country identifier (6O) shows, which state issued the license.

Example, SIX OSCAR ONE (6O1), the (6O) is followed by One (1).

Number (1) in the amateur radio call sign prefix 6O1 (Six Oscar One) indicates that the license was issued by the Telecommunications authority in Southern Somalia.

Tusaale ahaan, SIX OSCAR ZERO. (6O0), waxaa (6O) la socda hal (0).

Example, SIX OSCAR ZERO (6O0), the (6O) is followed by ZERO (0).

Hal (0) waxay ku tusaysaa in shatigaas laga soosaaray Puntland, Soomaaliya.

Number ZERO (0) is Puntland, North Somalia.

Ø is the same as 0 and Zero.

Somaliland (formerly North West Somalia ) issued some 6OØ callsigns to foreign visitors that had already been issued in 1993 and 1994 to Somali hams in the former North East Somalia (now known as the Puntland State of Somalia.

The following amateur radio licenses are valid for life unless cancelled by the Somalia Government.

Licensed amateur radio operators must keep the Somalia Amateur Radio Friendship and Emergency Network SARFEN up to date with any changes to their address, E-mail and telephone numbers.

If you can be quickly located then any interference problem you might be causing can be quickly fixed and everyone will be happy. If it is hard to find you then interference you might be causing might go on for an unnecessarily longer period.
