What you consider real sometimes depends on whether you are

a liberal who thinks people will eventually be perfected by human effort.

The meaning of truth is reality. Something that isn't true is unreal.

When Pontius Pilate heard Jesus say, "Everyone on the side of truth listens to me," Pilate answered, "What is truth?" In other words, Pilate was questioning whether reality makes any difference. He was telling Jesus, "Your reality is no better than my reality."

It is like a methamphetamine addict hearing that the meth is killing him. The addict will deny he is dying, he just wants his next dose. He doesn't care about reality.

It is like a horoscope enthusiast believing the planets control his life. In his world, the planets have power over him, but the reality is that the only effect planets have on us is a little gravitational pull.
