Physics Time Line Jan20 2021

Politics is in this time line because it is tearing up U.S. culture.  While a person is watching politics unfold day-by-day, without knowing how it is going to turn out, things look scary.  Anarchy in the U.S. is hurting so many people.  If one looks back from 2026, what is going on in 2021 may not seem like such a big deal, and Internet searches in 2026 may not turn up the cost of anarchy.  So these records are JE's attempt to capture some of the feeling of the day.  Conservative talk radio:  Democrat-Republican politics from fifteen years ago was different, they could agree on a lot.  But today, the political parties in the U.S. Congress seem to have no common ground.  JE sees congressional leaders (at least some Democrats) regularly lying and expecting people to believe the lies.

2021 Ap 20  book, Smokescreen, what the marijuana industry doesn't want you to know

2021  Diabetes can interfere with Ramadan, the Islamic fast month.  This is more so since Ramadan, based on the lunar cycle rather than the 365.25-day year, is hotter and the (recovery) nights are shorter in the next 10 years.  The Ramadan practice is to eat and drink nothing, not even water, during daylight.  Islamic countries are experiencing poor diet, weight gain, and diabetes just like the West.  The farther toward the north or south pole a Muslim lives, the more extreme the latitude effect is on length of day.  Muslim refugees in Scandinavia can have a tough time during Ramadan.

JE's comment:  NSTA routinely trashes Intelligent Design and parents who give credence to spiritual thinking (anything beyond materialism).  This virtual training is evidence that NSTA wants teachers to buy into hand wringing.  There probably are school districts that force all their science teachers to take this training.

The university [PSU] has made this kind of intellectual exploration impossible. It has transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a Social Justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender, and victimhood and whose only outputs were grievance and division.  Students are trained to mimic the moral certainty of ideologues.   Students are now afraid to speak openly.  With Title IX investigations there is no due process, so I didn’t have access to the particular accusations.  This institution is no place for people who intend to think freely and explore ideas.

2021 July 5  From e-mail from Girls Who Code, Reshma kicked off her conversation with Yara Shahidi (actress and activist) with one of our favorite questions — where did you find the strength to do brave things, to lead? Obviously, Yara is an amazing leader and the same age as so many of our GWC alumni. What she said really resonated with us — that she is in a constant state of learning, and that helps with bravery and leading. Yara said, “I’m willing to speak whatever my truth is and know that my truth can change and alter.”   JE:  Does Yara think there is any problem when another person she is talking with has a conflicting personal truth?  This is an amazing admission.

Qualifications on men being monogamous:  "if you're monogamous" twice in the web page;  men being free to have more than one woman is so widespread that this article limits the application of its guidance to just monogamous men, and this is now a widespread qualification.  Monogamy doesn't even mean married, it just means one partner at a time.  So the wider implication is that general men are going to have all sorts of relationships with multiple women in their pasts, and women who seek emotional fulfillment from men shouldn't expect too much faithfullness in the backgrounds of general men.  This is a big turnaround from conventional morals before the 1960s Sexual Revolution.

2021 August 30    The U.S. pullout from Afghanistan brings to mind the People's Republic of China, which seeks influence in Afghanistan.  Some say that China wants to encircle India by a new Great Wall, a "great wall of steel."  (Xi Jinping)   Taliban in Pakistan are more powerful now that Taliban in Afghanistan have won out.  Islamists perhaps want to have the power of Pakistan's nuclear weapons to threaten India.

2022 Jan 3  National Review  California is broken, but it is not doomed

(San Francisco, under current type of Board of Supervisors, may be doomed.)

California has three of the four most expensive housing areas and the highest poverty rate.  Unemployment is high.  Economy dominated by fewer, larger companies and an elite sector of the workforce, but a large service class dependent "on wealth redistribution."  The big companies favor the progressive politicians.  The former, robust California economy was oil, aerospace, trade, manufacturing, agriculture, tech.  From 1992, other states have better job creation:  Texas, Arizona, Florida, Washington, Nevada, Colorado.

Talk-show hosts criticize California leaders for being Communists.  (Review:  Communists make communes.  People are compelled to live as tenants in communal housing and work in communes.  The personal property that people owned before the Communist takeover, and private-company facilities,  become State property.  (Sometimes called "nationalizing."  People's Ball Bearing Factory Number 3.)  Manufacturing and farms become State property to be used as the State ministry directs.  The government constitution is changed.  The courts become instruments of policy for the ruling elite.  Secret police take away malcontents in the night.  Efficiency of production usually drops.  Entrepreneurs are allowed if they have a friend in the ministry of production.)

2022 Feb 3  Rod Dreher  https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/pope-francis-catholicism-all-sinners-are-saints-lgbt/   Cardinal Hollerich [top Catholic cardinal in Europe] was asked about changes in the church and he replied, “we cannot give the answers of the past to the questions of tomorrow.” “The change in civilization we are witnessing today is the greatest change since the invention of the wheel,” said the cardinal. “The Church has always moved with the times and has always adapted. But one always had much more time to do that. Today we must be faster. Otherwise, we lose contact and can no more be understood.”  The top Catholic cardinal in Europe openly denies magisterial Catholic teaching... new exegesis of Sacred Scripture which claims variously that Scripture has nothing to say on the subject of h       , or that it somehow tacitly approves of it, or that all of its moral injunctions are so culture-bound that they are no longer applicable to contemporary life.     Cardinal Hollerich knows that you can’t really finesse the matter.      Pope Francis: "let’s think about those who have denied the faith, who are apostates, who are the persecutors of the Church, who have denied their baptism: Are these also at home?” Yes, these too. The blasphemers, all of them. We are brothers. This is the Communion of Saints."      A blog follows;  schism in Roman Catholicism.  Pope Francis utters his opinion on every matter under the sun.   An embittered Argentinian.  Dancing along the banks of the Rubicon.  More likely that Protestants will save the West than Catholics turn around.  It's only the converts who actually study and embrace Catholic teaching these days.

Eastern Orthodox, Mormon and Protestant colleagues at my company have had similar experiences.  For all its talk of diversity, the tech industry has little room for devout believers. This discomfort with faith cuts off much of tech from the moral foundation it needs.

The real take-home lesson is that evolution, on its best day, is an embarrassingly anemic process...Behe is quite right to argue that if we need something like 10^20 cells to confer a relatively simple trait like resistance of Plasmodium to chloroquine, then the evolutionary story is in dire straits. To his credit, Moran correctly acknowledges that developing chloroquine resistance “is an event that is close to the edge of evolution.”

2022 Mar 7   Putin's rule in Russia has roots in his personal principles.  https://historynewsnetwork.org/article/159080    “Patriotism, collectivism, solidarity, derzhavnost’— the belief that Russia is destined always to be a great power (derzhava) exerting its influence abroad—”and statism, the belief that 'the individual and society are, and must be, subordinate to the state and its interests.' ”  “Russian history, the Russian language, and religion—are also themes that Putin repeatedly embraced in the 2000s."     “Today, many nations are revising their moral values and ethical norms,” destroying “traditional values,” accepting “without question the equality of good and evil.”  “The individual and society are, and must be, subordinate to the state and its interests.”

Putin's thinking is largely the thinking of Aleksandr Dugin, see Wikipedia.  Snatches from Wikipedia:  Dugin is a relativist who claims that concepts of liberalism, freedom and democracy are alien to Russian culture, and that the exact sciences of chemistry and physics are demonic Western influences...called for the creation of an illiberal totalitarian Eurasian empire stretching from Dublin to Vladivostok, with the annexation of Ukraine and Finland to support his idea of a Russian truth.     Requires a port on the Indian Ocean.  Consistently glorifying both Tsarist and Stalinist Russia, Elementy.     Russian Orthodox tradition may be merged with Neopaganism and may host "Neopaganism's nationalist force, which anchors it in the Russian soil, and separates it from the two other Christian confessions."  Russian strategic alliance with Iran.    In the Kremlin, Dugin represents the "war party," a division within the leadership over Ukraine.     "America wishes to wage the war against Russia not by its own hands but by the hands of the Ukrainians."     The whole Internet should be banned.     Unite around the president of Russia in the last battle between good and evil, following the example of Iran and North Korea.               Bigthink.com  Dugin thinks Western liberalism is at a dead end, a "nihilistic post-modern stage," trying to liberate itself from rational thought.  Dugin's multipolar world would give an alternative to the world government of the globalist elites, such as Hillary Clinton.  Dugin is happy about Pres. Why is [Coast to Coast AM]...such a huge success? From the article:  “It has definitely tapped into something in the American psyche,” Corbeth said of Coast to Coast. “I think people are looking for answers...a world which is very, very troubled, and getting scarier by the day.”

In a 1958 essay, Carl Jung tried to come to terms with what he called the “dark problem” of UFO sightings.   In the occult generally and in UFOs in particular, Carl Jung [who had unconventional, spiritual views] saw a strong connection to the decline of the Christian worldview [, and he wrote that the shrinking of Christianity feeds energy into other paranormal beliefs]. The concept of Christ as a savior, he wrote, "reflects a profound psychic need which does not simply disappear when the expression of it ceases to be valid. [Jung discounts Bible-believing Christians at a time when Episcopalians are drifting away from sin as a human trait, and Jesus' forgiveness.  Wikipedia:  At the 1958 general convention, a coalition of liberal church members [turned toward the civil rights movement in the U.S., distracting Episcopalians from the issues of sin and Jesus' forgiveness], "unilateral action on matters of doctrine without catholic unity."]  What happens to the energy that once kept the idea alive and dominant over the psyche?...Conflicts of unprecedented proportions have split the consciousness of our age. [Read this time line, up and down from 1958, and see the different world views.  Materialism and atheism, which rival Christianity, are potent even as early as the 1920s and 1958.]  When such tremendous opposites split asunder, we may expect with certainty that the need for a savior will make itself felt"...our secular materialist paradigm denies [that the paranormal or Jesus' miracles or Jesus' resurrection] could possibly exist, and when somebody like [nominally Roman Catholic] George Noory comes along and says [to multiple nighttime interview guests, before an audience of millions], “You know, you might not be crazy,” they glom onto him.

2022 Mar 14  Coast to Coast AM has a worthwhile program.  Professor Dr. David Delgado Shorter will discuss his work on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, as well as the subjects of his popular UCLA course "Aliens, Psychics, and Ghosts."  He is an anthropologist from New Mexico.  His dad, deceased in the last two years, was a government employee and contractor in New Mexico who did highly classified studies of materials, including materials supposedly from Socorro and Roswell crash sites.  The son is out on the liberal end but is able to talk sense about things.  Some of the beings he mentions in the radio interview can be interpreted to be demons.  Other living things are, he implies, autistic dwarfs who were recruited to pilot risky military experimental planes or rockets--some of them died in crashes or mid-air disintegrations.  His dad did work at White Sands Missile Range.  The son interviewed an elderly Mexican nurse who was on duty when some sort of beings, injured but breathing, were brought in from a crash site.  The beings were banged up.  There was a fluid coming from their bodies, but the fluid was not red.  Military personnel showed up, stuffed the living beings into body bags, and roughly tossed them into a truck.  This traumatized the nurse, and she wept as she prayed the rosary.  She cries when she recalls this terrible event.

Dr. Shorter says that Roswell and other happenings are "dangling car keys" that get the attention of fringe people and the public, but distract from the significant events like Socorro.

Elizabeth Warren:  Musk's acquisition is "dangerous for our democracy."  Europe:  may interfere with legislation about moderating social media content.        A key word is moderating, which is code for censoring.  Lots of talk-show time is given to how the Left moderated out Pres. Trump's supporters, skewing the 2020 election to let Pres. Biden be elected.  Department of Homeland Security announced on April 27, 2022 a new Disinformation Governance Board to protect national security by combating foreign misinformation and disinformation, but this looks like a way for the U.S. government to tell Americans what to think.   Florida governor DeSantis and former Democratic representative for Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard likened the board to the Ministry of Truth, a fictional governmental department in Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.

2022 May 1    A useful program for Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, one of the 5% that are useful.  Joseph Marino, former Benedictine monk, writes books about the Shroud of Turin and is on the side of the shroud being authentic.  Marino is an orthodox believer in Jesus and says that Jesus had the qualities that the Bible says he does.  He calls the shroud a message for the age, the age of skepticism.  JE is not a Coast Insider and doesn't have access to the online show, so I can't give a transcript here, just a recollection.

Three times in 90 minutes, the word 'fear' is mentioned.  World view is mentioned.  Noory, a Catholic, directly asks Marino, a Catholic, who Jesus is.  Marino responds like a believing Protestant would.  Noory doesn't dispute that.  The jangling disconnect to 40% of CtoC programs is that those 40% let mediums and astrologers, heretics, trash orthodox Christian beliefs.  And Noory nudges these heretics along without complaining about even their most ridiculous claims.       Coast to Coast AM Aug 7 2022 with Noory:  guest Sandra Champlain, Shades of the Afterlife, says that when a person dies, there is a life review.  There is no fear and no judgment.  The dead person is in the company of pets and friends.   Noory lets these people flout the New Testament.     There are Internet complaints along this line;  Art Bell used to challenge outrageous claims of guests, but not his successor, Noory.

If fear is brought up in the show, where is Noory's fear of the consequences of propagating and encouraging heresy to millions in the radio audience?  The fear aspect in this program is this:  if the shroud is true, that is evidence (not proof) of a supernatural origin of the shroud at the time of Jesus' resurrection.  (The image on the shroud is not paint, dye, stain, or mold, it is not chemicals added to linen fibers.  It might be a result of energy applied to linen.)  If Jesus was resurrected, and he is Son of God, and he laid out requirements about what God requires of people (faith, not proof;  follow the narrow, upward path to eternal life, not the well-travelled highway that slopes down to destruction), what should people do about God's requirements?  They should read the Bible and do what it says.  (Jesus' forgiveness is a gift that comes from faith, without cost.)  They should read about the hope, assurance, generosity, and love that God wants us to have, and read about the eternal punishment that is promised to those who reject Jesus' forgiveness.  Those who reject Jesus should fear the consequence of their rejection.  Noory should fear the New Testament warning of punishment for those who cause people to stumble regarding belief about Jesus:  Matt 18:7  Woe to the man through whom the stumbling block comes.

Callers include atheists and skeptics, including the often-calling Walter.  Marino responds mildly.  Unbelievers [in the West, where there is freedom of thought] have the freedom to believe or disbelieve.  But there are qualities of the shroud that have no explanation other than a supernatural process, and we should take the shroud to be God's message to some of us to read the Bible and take the Bible seriously.  JE's encouragement is at "1977 The writer, John E" in this time line.

2022 May  The continuing Russian war on Ukraine makes people wonder if the People's Republic will invade Taiwan, since communist China has always held that Taiwan is a Chinese province, just as Hong Kong has become.  (Young people:  Hong Kong was a British colony with a lot of freedom and a long-term lease, and the lease expired on July 1, 1997.  PRC has imposed increasing control on Hong Kong so that it now has few freedoms beyond any other Chinese communist province.)   If PRC invades Taiwan, the giant TSMC, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, might not supply the world with processors.  (See reshoring, bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. despite higher production cost party because of government regulations.)  Know that the U.S. portion of world semiconductor manufacturing fell from 37% in 1990 to 12% in 2021.  For a year, U.S. and European car production has been thwarted by insufficient supply of lower-tech, small, cheap, automotive chips.  What would happen if the flow of fast, sophisticated TSMC chips stopped because of an invasion by PRC?  It would be an economic disaster.  The threat of PRC invasion pushed John E. to have his Windows 11 computer built by Altex in early 2022, to ensure that he has Windows 11 without worrying about PRC.

But the Internet provides advice that PRC will not invade Taiwan soon, there are longer-term ways for PRC to capture Taiwan without invasion.  Meanwhile, "reshoring" is a political movement in the U.S. to increase U.S. manufacturing, to reduce U.S. dependency on foreign manufacturing.  But government regulations make U.S. manufacturing more expensive, and capitalism pushes companies to use the lowest-cost components.

This official White House web site on inflation, the highest inflation in forty years, is ... how should we say it ... how about lies?  Whitehouse.gov is throwing up statements that are not true, and they expect the public to listen, nod, and not complain.  They know they are lying, they expect to get away with it, and they deny they are lying.  This is the typical liberal way to operate.        Democrats say wrong things:  a blog in Fox News, by samiamgreeneggsandham:  "If a Democrat is accusing you of something, it is only because they themselves are guilty of it."

Here are the lies.         This is John E responding in my own words, not copy-paste from some conservative web site.         "United States is in a stronger economic position than any other major advanced economy in the world."  No, it isn't.  The U.S. debt and the amount of the budget to pay interest on the debt are awful and destabilizing.  "President’s top economic priority is tackling inflation and reducing costs for American families."  That is a sentence that claims to be the President's economic priority, but the policy that is more important to Democrats is allowing into the U.S. as many illegal immigrants as possible, allow them to vote as soon as possible, overwhelm the Republican vote, and create a permanent liberal rule that pushes the U.S. into socialism, a socialism that is beyond anything that Europe endures, because what people say is socialism in Europe is not socialism.  "Top economic priority is tackling inflation" is smoke and mirrors.        "Lowering costs that families face" is liberals imposing control, like price controls, similar to rent control in NYC.  thehill.com:  Virtually all economists ... agree that rent control reduces the housing supply and inevitably leads to shortage-induced price increases.        "Large corporations and the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share."  This is the mantra, but when you do the math, this oppressive taxing, when spread across liberal budgets, does not pay for their intended spending.  And the taxing drives manufacturing to other countries.       Republican minimum-tax plan for "$1,500 less in families’ pockets each year."  News to me.  This is how Republicans would lose elections.      "Giving [Medicare] the power to negotiate prescription drug prices" is giving government more power, which generally opposes the market establishing workable prices.       "Federal Reserve is the institution that plays a primary role in fighting inflation." The Fed manipulates the interest rate, but government deficits and government shutdown of pipeline projects and such cause greater inflation.    "Putin’s price hike at the pump" is Pres. Biden's excuse.       "Companies pay fees on idled wells":  the blame is on government permits that are not forthcoming.         "Clean energy and vehicle tax credits" is using taxes to subsidize the expensive alternative energy sources, which are battery power, wind farms, and solar electric which all have a long payback period, if they ever really pay back at all.  Any EV owner who has to replace the battery pack for $5000 to $20000 may buy an internal-combustion-engine vehicle the next time.       "Strongest ever fuel economy standards" is government mandates to make vehicles lighter weight, which means exotic materials that are expensive.  Make two-car families make do with one car.  Make one-car households into no-car.         "We should lower their costs" by increasing their costs--right, sure.       "Federal resources to create more competition in meat-processing" is going to work better than market competition, capitalism?        "Federal financing for the construction of new housing" translates to "tax these people to subsidize those people."           "Deficit is now on track to fall by another $1.5 trillion this year" is a lie, this really means the projected deficit will be $1.5 trillion lower than some previous plan's increase.  It is not a decrease.

2022 May 17  By Haris Alic - The Washington Times Tesla CEO Elon Musk is sharply criticizing President Biden’s stewardship of the economy and warning that if prices skyrocket any higher, the U.S. could end up like Venezuela.  Mr. Musk told the All-In podcast that the Biden administration had not accomplished much in its 18 months in power, except to pass big spending bills that contributed to inflation.  “The obvious reason for inflation is that the government printed a zillion amount of more money than it had, obviously,” he said. “If the federal government writes checks, they never bounce … if there are more dollars created, than the increase in the goods and services across the economy, then you have inflation.”   Biden sees white supremacist ideology infesting media, politics.  Mr. Musk argued that the “government can’t just issue checks,” as Congress did during the coronavirus pandemic, without eventually leading to inflation and other dire economic problems.   “If the government could just issue massive amounts of money and deficits didn’t matter, then why don’t we just make the deficit 100 times bigger,” he said. “Various countries have tried this experiment multiple times. Have you seen Venezuela?”   MSN:  "The Trump administration, leaving Trump aside, there were a lot of people in the administration who were effective at getting things done."

The current Democrat narrative...following the pummeling given to their stupid hopes and commie dreams.  [Democrats] believe in the pinko ratchet theory where America can only move left, but never again right...Their currency...is power...they don’t want to govern; they want to consolidate power, and you’re not going to talk them out of it by offering bourgeois stuff like facts and law. My new book We’ll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America puts it this way:

“This elite ideology that rejected objective truth in favor of the unprincipled pursuit of power meant that even though its adherents had taken society’s helm, no one was bothering to look where they were steering the ship...Without reason and debate, then the real currency is power and after the last few weeks maybe he ought to have learned that reason and debate is not there to protect the strong – us – but the weak...He is warning that we political conservatives are seeking to fill the Supreme Court “with political conservatives.” What should we fill it with? Liberals? ...The Democrats are losing in every governmental arena – executive, legislative and judicial – and they are not going to be limited in their hysterical, girlish pouting by bourgeois concepts like coherence. They want their power back, and they can’t have it. Let them cry.

Review of some problems for Democrats:

July 5  White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to discuss a 2018 voicemail from President Biden that was recovered from a laptop...further undermining Biden’s claim that he never discussed foreign business deals with his son.  “Why is there a voicemail of the president talking to his son about his overseas business dealings if the president has said he’s never spoken to his son about his overseas business dealings?” Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked...“I am not going to talk about alleged materials from the laptop,” Jean-Pierre maintained. “Peter, I refer you to his son’s representatives.”  Philip Wegmann about how the White House could refuse to even address questions about the first son’s dealings, since the president routinely says that he will “level” with the public.  “So I hear your question, but what I can tell you from here, standing at this podium is that I cannot comment on any materials from the laptop and I would refer you to the representatives of Hunter Biden,” Jean-Pierre added.

The upper-left photo is after Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the sign says Abortion on Demand Without Apology.  State laws prevail, producing a hodge-podge abortion scene across U.S.  Comparing U.S. to Europe abortion access, most European countries prohibit abortion after 12 weeks.  U.S. liberals are generally shocked that Europe is so oppressive against women.

Progressives seek to modernize...Christianity to the liberal democratic order of the west. We saw this in Protestant churches immediately after the Reformation with some of the more radical reformers fleeing Europe to settle in America. Once here, they were preaching social gospel and egalitarianism by the mid-1800s...in the Roman Catholic church...with Vatican II. In both Protestant and Catholic churches, traditionalists have been drowned out by modernists...female ministers, L___ clergy, and even gay marriage and abortion in some cases. Pope Francis embodies all the modern liberalization...banning of traditional Latin Mass to leading interfaith prayers at pagan temples and advocating for socialist policies, Francis has all but completed the liberalization of the Roman Catholic Church.             Traditionalists argue that church attendance has already dropped off in the last couple of decades precisely because most churches have embraced progressive values.             Riccardi-Swartz sees Orthodoxy, particularly Russian Orthodoxy in the U.S., as one of these “problematic” institutions. She spent a year infiltrating an Appalachian parish of ROCOR (Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia) converts under false pretenses to write her book Between Heaven and Russia: Religious Conversion and Political Apostasy in Appalachia.        Funding from the Henry Luce Foundation. The Luce Foundation is a multi-billion-dollar NGO which says its purpose is to carry on the work of it’s founder, Henry Luce, the creator of Time Magazine.              “The gospel of democracy” as outlined in a February 1941 editorial in his own magazine, Life. In this editorial essay entitled “The American Century,” Luce called for a new kind of evangelism. If you go back and read this influential editorial now, it reads as a globalist manifesto.       Columbia University was awarded one of these generous grants to create the Center for Democracy, Toleration, and Religion (CDTR) which seeks to wedge feminist...and other progressive ideologies into acceptance in traditionist religions such as Orthodox Christianity, Traditional Catholicism, and Islam.        Sarah Riccardi-Swartz...on her website:  “Within conservative forms of Christianity, such as Eastern Orthodoxy, women’s roles have historically been monitored and minimized...silencing the voices of women...How will conservative Christianity be transformed by women who are leading the way to create a new status quo in the Orthodox Church, one that focuses on inclusivity and intersectionality?...Orthodox feminist activists are pushing back against the hegemony of patriarchal Christianity, seeking not to upend tradition but to transform it, even through socio-religious transgression.”  This is classic gaslighting. People who represent wealthy, influential organizations like the Luce Foundation love to tell us we [traditionalists] are imagining a plot to infiltrate the church with far-left ideology while also telling us right to our face on their own websites that they are doing exactly that

Jeff Bezos calls out Joe Biden's latest inflation claim: 'Straight misdirection or a deep misunderstanding.'   Lawrence Richard

After President Joe Biden called on companies running gas stations to lower the price of gas, Jeff Bezos accused the U.S. president of misleading the public or said he lacked a "basic" understanding of the forces that actually drive prices.  "Ouch. Inflation is far too important a problem for the White House to keep making statements like this," Bezos said in a tweet Saturday evening.

In the initial tweet, Biden made a direct appeal to gas stations and encouraged them to simply charge less for gasoline.  "My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple: this is a time of war and global peril. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you’re paying for the product," Biden said Saturday morning.   Bezos said the tweet was very telling to him and may reveal how little Biden knows about the market.  "It’s either straight ahead misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics," Bezos added in his response.  "Gas stations don’t control what they ultimately can charge," he added. "People aren’t this stupid."  [Markup at convenience stores is about 3%.]  Bezos has emerged as an unlikely critic of the Biden administration as Biden continues to try and pin the blame for record-high gas prices on anything ahead of the midterms election.  Over the past year, Biden has blamed

Previously, Bezos and the White House feuded over rising inflation, which the White House sought to blame on large companies like Bezos’ Amazon.  "They understandably want to muddy the topic," Bezos tweeted in May. "They know inflation hurts the neediest the most. But unions aren’t causing inflation and neither are wealthy people."  "Remember the Administration tried their best to add another $3.5 TRILLION to federal spending. They failed, but if they had succeeded, inflation would be even higher than it is today, and inflation today is at a 40-year high," he added.

2022 July 12  The desire to silence dissent is now culturally pervasive across many fields. Not true.  From a party that supported demands to defund local police departments throughout the 2020 election cycle and last summer’s Black Lives Matter race riots. Now they need to dispel the truth and get back in the good graces of police unions.    V.P. Harris  The President and I are absolutely committed to ensuring that our immigration system is orderly and humane. And I do believe that we are making progress in that regard.  Ask any overworked Border Patrol agent on the Mexico border and they will dispute that.  While they are tied up, processing "undocumented immigrants" in Texas, the cartel is half a mile upriver, freely ferrying drugs and more "immigrants" across the river.

"Wokeness is a problem and everyone knows it.  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was even more blunt: "From

2022 July 22  New York Post     Ezra Klein urged Demos to recognize that most voters are not liberals, are not woke.  The Squad's core positions are wildly out of touch with the broader electorate's priorities.  High inflation, record gasoline price, rising crime (eliminating cash bail, making it free;  defund police departments), immigration flood.  The Squad uses class-based political warfare, identity politics, disruption for disruption's sake.               Millions of teens questioning their sexual identity.  Men in women's bathrooms, prisons, sports teams, drag queens at libraries, SCOTUS candidate Ketanji Brown refusing to define a woman, dares not answer for fear of backlash.

Remnantnewspaper.com  Most Latinos are patriotic.  They have no time for gender, race, open borders, national anthem kneelers, and the socialism they and their ancestors have lived under [in Cuba and Venezuela].  Look at Marco Rubio's family.  Latinos can define what a woman is, while white Democrats can't.

Rightamerican   James Carville, Democrat:  What went wrong [in Democrat strategy in the last 15 years] is just stupid wokeness.  Even Pres. Obama, who peddled identity politics, said the Left went too far in 2019.  Wokeness is not successful.  "Get over that quickly."

As one reads progressive web sites, one comes across the PC phrases "person with a p_____, person with a v______, baby delivered to a person with a u_____."  [But don't say man or woman.]  Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown wouldn't define "woman" when she knew she would be condemned by liberal media if she didn't use the PC phrases.  Trigger phrase this, snowflake that, personal pronoun this, gender reassignment that, undocumented immigrant, Meryl Streep is an actor, not an actress.  An urban disturbance with shop windows broken and looting is called a progressive protest, and mainly peaceful, but if it is associated with the alt-right, the same behavior is called a riot.  So many PC phrases that are likely to be supplanted in two years and never heard again.  Prof. Clifford Staples quit being a Marxist. He found that freeing up students from the conservative behavior of their parents releases the students "to replace truth with opinion, to 'unleash the hate and unsheathe the knives.'"  "In the absence of truth, all that remains is power."    (See this web site, Intolerance in Academia sub-page of the physics time line 1900-1990 sub-page.)

Townhall  Leftist organizations are being eaten from within.  Take any perceived slight.  Take it to the front and center of "my truth."  Assume the greatest evil.  Make it into an outrage campaign.  Cultivate microaggressions.  Reject any apology.  The Washington Post has suffered from woke zealotry and cancel culture, and fired a woke ringleader after a reporter retweeted an insensitive joke and was suspended without pay.  Liberal executives allowed the bleeding.  Progressive organizations are paralyzed by in-fighting.  Liberal organizations are hijacked and driven into the ground by toxic culture.  ACLU, Sierra Club, Guttmacher Institute.  ACLU used to have some common ground with Republicans.  Starbucks has been protested against by climate activists, vegans, unions, BLM, homeless, and divestment activists.  By appeasing one group, they welcome more.  An executive claims that woke office drama consumes 90% to 95% of his time.  Executives resign when they can't stand the drama.  Incompetents have gotten ahead of the game by beating others to outrage, and are protected during the "investigation."

"And as Mr. Biden insists he plans to run for a second term, his age has increasingly become an uncomfortable issue for him, his team and his party."

2022 July  Monkeypox is endemic to African animals and some African people in 11 countries.  But it is spreading rapidly in the West in the wake of HIV, COVID-19, and the increase of syphilis over 20 years (CDC web site), but MPX is in 95% to 98% in a certain community.  It is rarely fatal but causes smallpox-like lesions that are painful.  If these lesions are in the mouth or lower intestinal tract, they are very painful, but that seems to be escaping the attention of CDC and public health during July.

Hot spots for monkeypox are Austin, Chicago, NYC, D.C., Bay Area, West Hollywood, Atlanta.  The U.S. surpassed Spain in MPX in early August.

There is controversy about calling Western monkeypox a sexually transmitted infection, STI.  Progressives insist monkeypox is not STI, and they complain about stigmatization that goes along with monkeypox if it is deemed STI.  But health workers may as well think in terms of STI because 95% to 98% of Western cases are in men who _ _ _ _.  These infected men have trouble finding doctors who will treat them, because the caseload is almost entirely among the 2% or 3% of the male population who _ _ _ _, and among them, a majority refuse use of c _ _ _ _ _ _, disregarding the clear advice of CDC on its web site.  When a doctor has a patient who refuses the doctor's directions, the doctor is likely to have the patient find another doctor, because doctors want their patients to follow their directions.  Doctors don't like to be frustrated when they have to go over and over the same set of communicability questions on multiple doctor visits of one patient, and receive the same answer, "I don't like to do that, I want to be free.  I have rights."  Also, monkeypox lesions leak the virus in the clinic, and special hygiene must then be exercised to protect the next patient.

The more progressive a person is, the more he declares that MPX is not STI.  It goes with the territory.  The same with complaining about stigmatization.

CDC associates MPX vaccine priority with living with HIV or at risk for HIV, and men who _ _ _ _.  (cbsnews.com)  But some people outside the 95 to 98% are catching MPX and not being targeted for vaccine or the warning messaging, and they get a lot of press for being overlooked.  Some call for "dating apps" to be required to carry MPX warning.

In Spain, abstinence is a hot topic.  Catalonia has many cases.  15,000 people are in the high-risk group in just Barcelona, and there are 1500 MPX cases.  Archyde.com:  "At the July 9 Pride March, I didn't do anything."  Nervous laugh.  "I didn't go to s__ clubs."  The risk is major in s__ clubs.  A person on vox.com is "trying to replace the language of 'men who _ _ _ _ ' with either 'men and their s__ networks' or 'q_____ people and their s__ networks,'" because vaccine goes to certain groups based on the exact language.  CDC web site changed the phrase to "people who have had multiple s__ p___ in the last 14 days," "focusing on behavior."       VOAnews.com:  striking a balance between not stigmatizing men _ _ _ _ _, while also ensuring that both vaccines and pleas for greater caution reach those currently in the greatest danger.  [Satisfying one causes protest about the other.]  "Contact tracing is very complicated because it can be a very sensitive issue for someone to identify their...partners."  [And much of the activity is anonymous and with drugs being used.]  More "partners creates greater risk."  "Fatigue from the COVID-19 pandemic has played a part...isolate until they are fully healed...people close the webpage and forget what they have read...you couldn't do this or that, and now, here we go again.  People just hate it and put their heads in the sand."  [Then they go out to the rave.]

"Saunas and group s__ are pretty freaking risky right now."  And bathhouses.  "Love for those types of spaces."  "G__ s__ doesn't drive anything."  "S__ is normal and healthy."  "S__ with the lowest risk possible."  "Risk and pleasure."  "An oppressive American health care system."  Abstinence and less risky behavior..."It's not for forever;  it's until we have better access to vaccines..."

A doctor on TV (was it Newsy or ?) advised that people not add to their contacts from the community at this time.

MPX virus remains dangerous up to at least two weeks.  It lives longer in coolness and darkness.

A thinking person wonders when the next infection will follow in the stead of HIV, syphilis, and MPX.  COVID-19 was different, being deadly and easily communicable, but a lot of suffering, concentrated in that certain community, comes from the other infections.   When a s___ inexperienced woman marries a s___ inexperienced man, they sidestep all these infections.  It makes you think about the best ways to live, which is the definition of that old word, morals.

From the Heavy web site, edited by JE--This is it.  Today's the day I die.  After my massacre I'll be gone.  Truly at peace.  A million miles away in another universe.  [The Christian view is that he is now in Hell, but materialists say that he is nothing after he dies, like everyone is nothing after dying.]      Why?  I can already see all of you asking that question.  I have no idea, my head doesn't work anymore.  I can never shut my thoughts off.  I'm FULL OF RAGE.  Citizens live in a dehumanized state.  [The World, the organized, Satan-led world, is indeed in a sorry state.  Ethan Miller didn't hear about Jesus' forgiveness, or at least he didn't receive that forgiveness.]  We don't know who we truly are.  I am above you dumb little humans.  Don't get me started on that dumb little god you worship.  You are sheep.  [Well, actually, we seek to be sheep following our Shepherd.]  I hate myself.  I'm a blood-thirsty, evil psychopath.  The entire world fell for COVID.  The government forced us into isolation.  I was turned into a monster by the world.  They force a false belief system, morals, down your throat.  I'll be damned if I let anyone control me.  [He let Satan control him.]  I'm glad I realized this now instead of wasting years living a miserable life here.  I'm  going to start a violent revolution.  I'll have a good time killing.  Move on to peace for eternity.  The pure brutality of shooting up a school is so exciting.  Existence means nothing.  [Marxists say that individuals mean nothing, what matters is the earthly experience of large groups.  Individuals count for nothing because nothing follows death.]

The investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings has been going on for years now — since 2018 to be exact (via CNN).

The Washington Times reports that Timothy Thibault, an assistant special agent at the FBI, has suddenly resigned after a 25-year tenure in light of allegations that he acted with political bias in keeping the president's son out of trouble in the course of the investigation into his business conduct.  Analyst Brian Auten is also being accused of working with Thibault in what Senator Grassley described as a scheme to "undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation."  Auten is part of the largely-discredited team that led the investigation into Russian collusion involving former President Donald Trump (via RealClearInvestigations). Alarmingly, this team oversaw the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.  Donald Trump had a lot to say about the unfolding situation...Mark Zuckerberg having admitted Facebook suppressed stories about Hunter Biden before the 2020 election due to allegedly having received intelligence from the FBI about potential Russian propaganda around the matter (via New York Post).  The revelation was made during the Meta executive's appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast.

Christopher Beiting    The Grave Consequences of the Church's Great 'Emphasis Shift'

Few ordinary Catholics have heard "outside the Church there is no salvation," which is in the online Cathecism.  It is scarcely taught since Vatican II, but what used to be heresy is now taught:  muddledness.  "All religions are equally capable of leading people to Heaven."  Karl Rahner is one teacher of this heresy.  The Church once proclaimed Christ.  Now she engages in "dialogue," "promoting her commonalities with" other religions.  Ecumenism used to be condemned, but after Vatican II there are formal offices to facilitate ecumenism.  Collapse of mission work, exodus from the Church, apathy.  "We need to proclaim the Gospel and abandon the...endless dialogue."  [A Catholic says] The current mess is as bad as the mess of the Protestant Reformation.

Page 47  Woke thinking comes from Hegel, Marx, Engels, Freud, Lenin, Dewey.  The Frankfurt School gave us critical theory.  Woke thinking is

1) the group over the person,

2) will over reason,

3) human power over divine rights.

The sexual revolution wrecks the family.  Woke revolutionaries like to control our thought and speech ("My pronouns are they/them/their.  If I, by myself, walk into a room, I want you to say, "They walked into the room with their backpack."), employ critical Marxism, and destroy history.

 p. 9    Modernism affecting Christian churches--letter from senior editor of Touchstone, S.M. Hutchens    Ordination of women can be from "sectarian enthusiasm," selective reading of scripture overwhelming tradition and "indelible patriarchy."  But it can also be from modernism, and the impulse to modernism can alternate between "innocent mistakes" and "diabolical aspects" of apostasy that make for a different religion, where women taking the topmost leadership is the "most prominent symbol."  "This process proceeded, as Prof. Tighe shows, rapidly in the Episcopal Church" whereas it was slower among other protestants.  [NOR Dec 2022 The St. Louis Congress [1977]: Forty-Five Years Later where conservative Anglicans made their stand]  "Not every ordained woman was

2023 Mar6    From web site xxxx that I can't re-discover, but here are notes.

Mark Wingfield, long-time editor for Baptist Standard, weekly for Baptist General Convention of Texas, and associate pastor at Dallas Wilshire Baptist.  He has strong opinions (that I mostly debate), in his web page that I can't re-discover, but here are some quotes.

1) The American Right, theologically, defined itself by what it is against.

Against inclusion of          .  JE answers:  Is it wrong to be defined by what I am against?  But that is the way you characterize me, as if you are on the offensive and I am on the defensive.  But apart from that...           is welcome at my church, but         will hear, over time, that the ancient cities of S     and       had reputations for predation and abusing.  ("Over time" means that it isn't a leading topic at the church, it takes years of Bible sermons to get the drift.)  But the predation stands out in the Genesis writing.  How much does predation or abuse go with         ?  Especially after 1980?  There are plenty of people, orthodox Christians, who say there is a linkage, and those people also have a view about nature vs. nurture, that          is nurture, whereas          say it is inborn, it is nature, and they have that view to escape personal culpability.                But of course predation also goes with plenty of men who call themselves hetero.  Parents at church want a safe place for their children, there should be no gray zone in churches.

JE answers:  If a church is inclusive, are there limits?  Look at the web page of UUMC Austin.  We commit ourselves to love and follow the God revealed in Jesus without denying the authenticity of other paths to the holy...practicing our faith is more important than adhering to doctrines.  Some staff at UUMC Austin are from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Presbyterian by training and employment in a progressive Methodist church.  That seems curious.  It may be that these progressives like Austin (what progressive wouldn't like Austin?) and want to stay in Austin for employment.

Profile of the program coordinator at that seminary  [ Linkedin:  for the Office of Student Affairs and Vocation, Resident Chaplain at Muslim Space, and was Student Body President at Aus Pres Th Seminary ], as of Mar 30 2023 What motivates you toward excellence? The teachings of my faith tradition (Islam).      JE comment:  a seminary that calls itself Christian (their web site, "leaders from diverse Christian traditions are moved to connect with their calling, challenge their assumptions [code for "doubt the Bible"], and change the world as they become confidently [code for being autonimous] equipped for Christian ministry") has a Muslim staff member?  A review on Glassdoor of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary:  "inclusivity of wide range of people and perspectives...at the expense of compromising historical Christian theological orthodoxy."  "The culture is toxic and as many as 15 staff left in a single year."  "LOTS of hypocrisy...history and knowledge is leaving the organization."

2) Against leadership by women.  JE answers:  how many men are eager to take advice from women?  If a woman is the church's pastor and if most deacons are women, and some feminism creeps in there, what are the men going to do about it?  They will stay home.      Do children need moms?  And do they need dads?  A child with a female mom and a male dad, all under one roof, gives the best results, though many progressives debate this.      Men and women are not interchangeable.  Alternatives to male leadership in church are tried by many congregations, but what is the outcome?

3) Against abortion in all cases.  JE answers:  Mark, how can you be on the side of abortion for some...in fact, don't you really want abortion for ALL women who want it?  And who cares what the baby wants?

4) Against reading sacred texts in light of modernity.  JE answers:  modernity has been going on since 1899, see "1899 apostolic letter by Leo XIII" in this time line.  In fact, modernity stands on the excesses of the Enlightenment, from centuries ago.  Free thinking leads people away from Jesus' forgiveness.  For starters, it distracts.  Then free thinkers branch into all kinds of excesses.  Reference:  Wiker, 10 Books that Screwed Up the World.

5) Against people thinking for themselves.  JE answers:  see free thinking above.

6) Against scientific discovery.  JE answers:  molecular biologists discover the giant molecular machines in the cell, 60,000 atoms that have to be just right.  Kinesin, ribosome, chloroplast, ATP synthase (cytochrome C synthase).  Irreducible complexity.  Look at YouTube for animations of these machines.  You think randomness came up with these?  In the face of the predominance of harmful mutations?  More and more scientists rebel against the hegemony of evolution-minded professors.  And more scientists decide that the Earth is probably the only place in the universe with life, considering that the evolution story requires billions of years of steady climate, which is unlikely.  Reference:  search this  time line for exovcross, a character string that homes in on evolution topics.

7)"God might have told me something different than you believe God told you."  JE answers:  what type of god are you paying attention to?  A reliable God has the same message for everyone.

8) Literal interpretation of Bible.  JE answers:  literal interpretation works.  When you allow each person to have his own exceptions, see what happens.  Is a literal interpreter the "only one"?  No, the "only one" is the source document.  The Holy Spirit's document stands up against heterodoxy.

9) The Earth is the center of the universe?  JE answers:  read Lucky Planet: Why Earth is Exceptional-and What That Means for Life in the Universe by David Waltham.  Cosmologically speaking, astronomers now say there is no center of the universe.  Mark W means, of course, that conservatives call Earth the center of importance.  As JE looks at the evidence, that is exactly what I see, Earth is the only place God has set up with life;  the human brain was God's central piece of creation, and the rest of the human body, and the rest of the planet, is a support system for the human brain.  https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/editorials/the-human-brain-is-the-most-complex-structure-in-the-universe-let-s-do-all-we-can-to-unravel-its-mysteries-9233125.html

Look at NASA web sites about the Solar System, the planets and the many moons.  There is a lot of talk about potential for life, https://www.science.org.au/curious/space-time/there-life-galilean-moons-jupiter.      Reference:  in this time line, search for Drake Equation.  The numbers I put into the Drake Equation come out with Earth being the only place with intelligent life.

It says a lot when Mark Wingfield is associate pastor at Dallas Wilshire Baptist, a congregation akin to First Baptist Austin.  It also says a lot that BGCT is trending conservative now after experimenting with progressive policies in the 1980s and 1990s.  Just as the Global Methodist Church is trending conservative as the United Methodist Church implodes.

More about Baptist General Convention of Texas--this long-time Texas SBC organization had taken a progressive turn in the 1980s.  It is trending conservative, recently.  Evidence:  Pastor Nathan, San Antonio CHBC, spoke at BGCT university Hardin-Simmons in Abilene.  He notes that HSU has been a secular place for years.  A student told him that "we don't get [affirmation of Bible and Jesus' forgiveness] here too much."  HSU had a seminary, until 2022, where some people said, "From the evidence we have, Jesus could have been a woman" ...  a controversial doctrinal statement focused heavily on sexuality and gender.   But since 2016 a new president of HSU, Eric Bruntmyer, is turning toward orthodoxy.  During Bruntmyer's 12 yrs at Dallas Baptist University, a place that is more othrodox, there was growth.

2023 Apr New Oxford Review  p. 36  Pieter Vree  The way that Roman Catholic churches shut up during Covid-19 may be a foretaste of a shrinking catholicism in the near future.  Pope Benedict, 1997, could see that the church may return to mustard-seed size, small groups living an intense struggle against evil but bringing good into the world, letting God in.

2023 May 8  The end of "Title 42" on May 12 is dreaded by many regular Americans.  Press tells us there are tens or hundreds of thouands of "migrants," largely Venezuelans and Guatemalans, ready to flood across the border, waving mass-printed, partially filled-out asylum applications.  This has been going on for months, the immigration judges are months to years behind on processing the cases, and the migrants are merely given dates to come back for hearings, and no one expects these poor people will come back for their hearings.  They are flown or bussed to cities all over the U.S.   Chicago and New York City mayors complain that their facilities are overloaded.  Migrants are camping in public places in El Paso.  The Mexico cartels have made an industry of extorting thousands of dollars per individual, issuing wrist bands to organize the process, queuing them across from and illegal entry point, distracting Border Patrol by an incident a mile from an entry point, then putting dozens to hundreds across the border, and infiltrating Fentanyl along with the people.  (CBP, as it is, is usually overloaded with screening and documents, and are taken off their proper duty at the border.)   Stolen or illegal guns go the opposite direction.  Ordinary Americans are recruited to drive vehicles with concealed migrants from the entry points to safe houses in the border states.  "Unaccompanied children" are directed into channels for trafficking.  1500 U.S. military are being sent to the border, but not with arms to do any enforcement, they are intended to be paper shufflers to offload some work from CBP.

In San Antonio, Catholic Charities handles hundreds of migrants per day.  They are on local TV news.  They are getting millions of dollars of grant money, but they say they don't know what to do when the floodgates open.  JE's wife is bothered that things will be out of control, and we better stock up on food and supplies.  Some logical thinking says that she is correct.  Within the past ten years, there have been invasions of hundreds over border crossings, people running across the bridge and there aren't enough CBP people to stop them, and CBP isn't going to gun them down;  San Diego comes to mind.  Our close-to-the-border experience at El Paso, on our Organ Mountains trip, showed why there are pedestrian crossings that are actually chain-link tunnels, it is to keep people from jumping into the auto lanes and just running past.  Any border city is liable to collect thousands of migrants, all Spanish speakers, and there is nothing to keep them in shelters, because there aren't fences around the shelters.  There is nothing to keep migrants from making an organized march to a big-box store like HEB or Walmart, pick up as much merchandise as can be carried, and just walk out with it.  Or load up shopping carts and push them off site.  Since guns are tightly controlled in Mexico, at least they aren't going to be armed.  But there are knives on the hooks in the U.S. stores!  And Walmart and Academy have the guns and rounds.  It hasn't happened yet, but what if a march turns violent, and migrants break into homes and apartments to squat?  There aren't enough police to handle that if there are hundreds of cases.  What if migrants set dumpsters or buildings on fire to divert emergency services?  If this is done on a school day, the streets will be filled with the cars of parents going to rescue their children.  In progressive cities, there are bans on profiling, and police can't just round up anyone who looks like a non-citizen.  (The attitude of progressives all across the U.S. at this time is that police are the enemy.)       What happens if the migrant population in a city balloons the population to 130% of normal, and the food-supply chain can't cope with it?  If normal commerce in a city is interrupted, service workers will be off work and won't be earning income and spending for their needs.  It could be like the Great Depression on a city-by-city basis.

Not just the cities are threatened.  Local TV news talks to ranchers.  There are plenty of ranches in border counties that have fences cut, livestock loose, and buildings broken into.  It is likely that many rural people will pack up and leave for their personal safety.

2023 May 5     Outrage in Uvalde about the fourth graders and teachers murdered in 2022 continues on local, San Antonio TV.  Plenty of law enforcement were steps away, restrained by lack of leadership, while the shooter continued to kill.   Recent mass shooting at Allen, TX outlet mall targeted people who looked different.

Mass shootings at schools, grocery stores, places of worship, and public events requires a mind that is lucid and capable of producing rational thought...2017 Las Vegas shooter had notes on distance, trajectory, and wind changes...an adherence to ideas and rhetoric that are bandied about as truth on media outlets [social media]...government officials echo these “truths” and reinforce their so-called legitimacy. The result is a radicalized—not mentally ill—individual absorbing all of this extremist ideology who then takes advantage of the easy access to guns in America...ideology, racism, and perceived injustice trump mental illness in many of these cases.  Racism is not mental illness.

JE comment:  Hate is a root of most mass shootings.  Hate is made worse by the culture legitimizing freedom to think and do anything you want, "as long as it doesn't hurt others," the exercise of free thinking without restraint on action, the elevation of autonomy with no care for the community good.  Such thinking is a modern phenomenon, it used to not be this way.

Free thinking is a departure from Christian love for all people.  A Christian should discipline himself to do good for himself and other people, to the point of praying 1) that God will help them and 2) God will give him patience when other people abuse him.    2 Timothy 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.  Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake.  Matthew 5:44 Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  1 Peter 4:12-14 Do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you...rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. The cows would have to be "culled" at a cost of 600,000 euros to taxpayers over the next three years.  "The push to end life, of both animals and humans, in the name of “climate activism” is fundamentally evil," a Twitter user posted on June 3.  "This really needs to stop," Musk commented. New Oxford Review June 2023 Letters to Editor  A long rant from Leslie Aguillard, Denver, with replies from Jason Morgan, who Aguillard disagreed with.  JE paraphrase.  This sheds some light on rank and file Catholic thinking.

I was raised Catholic.  I liked incense and choir.  But I didn't like traditions.  [Morgan:  tradition is wisdom bought at the price of generations of human stubbornness running so many times into the same brick walls of error.  More than tradition, Catholicism is about Jesus resurrected and in our bodies and souls, a world made new.]  Paul was an opportunist who championed his own view of Jesus.  [Morgan:  Was Paul opportunistic?  He missed a lot of opportunities, being imprisoned, stoned, and shipwrecked for the cause that Jesus set him.*]  Let the Jewish scholars teach the Old Testament, the Christian theologians don't know the OT.  The OT teaches misogyny, racism, white supremacy.  [Morgan:  Jesus wasn't white, he loved his mother, he saved a woman from stoning, and he died for everybody.]  We are all saved.  [Morgan:  such logic does not inspire confidence in the brain thinking its way out of logical mire.]  No one I know is a "true believer" in whatever religion they were born into.  Science provides [meaning in life] for me, though I was ordained an Independent Catholic priest 20 years ago.  [Morgan:  Aguillard professes a destiny of gravity, particles, and waves, a maze of dead ends.  What grocery aisle does Aguillard look to for unconditional love?  Science is existential anxiety.  Stephen Hawking found science so lacking in hope that he fiddled around at the edges looking for something or someone to give hope.]  Jesus was a good, kind, brave man.  [Morgan:  Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."]  It is fine that people find comfort in their beliefs as long as they do not force others.  We need to leave each other alone.  [Morgan:  did you leave me alone?  No, you wrote a letter about me to the editor of a magazine, complaining about me.]

Morgan concludes:  People "wandering around, lost...heartfelt freight of silent desperation.  I was such a one.  I know a cry for help."  Christ sacrificed his body through torture, but a new Heavenly body will only cost me a present death to sin and the flesh.  There is a tension between what we'd like to believe happened and what really happened.  Don't run off the rails and get your thinking messed up.  *Matthew 28 make disciples of all nations.  Acts 1 be my witnesses to the ends of the Earth.

2023 July-Aug New Oxford Review p. 28  Thomas Storck 'Ecumenism:  A Reassessment'

In 1910, an early ecumenical meeting of Protestants resulted in the World Council of Churches [which quickly went the liberal route].  The liberalism was from waning doctrine and the waning influence of Christianity in the public and private spheres.  [The roaring twenties were coming;  immorality rampant.]  Roman Catholics were attracted into ecumenism with Protestants, though Catholic leaders saw problems.

Following Vatican II in the 1960s, "Common Declaration" in 1966 with British Anglicans flew in the face of the Catholic teaching, Anglicans are members of a "man-made structure that lacks a tradition of valid sacramental orders."  A traditional view of Catholicism:  the Church which Christ founded and which is governed by the successors of Peter.  (Mysterium Ecclesiae 1973)  Storck:  Ecumenism raises false hope among Protestants and causes general muddling of clear thinking.  There is a disconnect between Catholic doctrine and the application in life.

From 1973 to 2023, problems for Catholics are "banal liturgy, bad catechesis, and toleration of error in Catholic colleges."

2023 July-Aug New Oxford Review p. 11  John Fay letter to editor, about invalidity of evolution.  It is improbable for complex life (self-reproducing, food-consuming, waste-eliminating, self-propelling, thinking, sensing, social, internal temperature-regulating, chemical processing) to happen by random steps.  To begin with, the proteins are very complex, and there is not enough time in mere billions of years that random changes can produce the 20,000 protein-coding genes in humans.  (100 amino acids in a specific sequence, coding for just a part of a protein, have to get it right out of 1.7e132 possible sequences, whereas there are only 1e80 atoms in the known universe.)  "The theist looks at this improbability and sees an intelligent designer;  the atheist speculates about a cyclic universe or an infinite number of universes [multiverse].  Neither is science."  Evolutionists and materialists often use evolution to declare that God is unnecessary, but this is neither science nor logic.  evoxcross

July 12 2023    received in e-mail, a petition

To Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin:  With the increasing threats to American interests and allies across the globe, I am shocked that the U.S. military seems to be more focused on promoting Pride flags, preferred pronouns, and abortions at taxpayer expense than preparing our armed forces to defend our nation.

This political agenda is contrary to the core principles of duty, honor, and country that made our military the greatest fighting force in the world. It also creates a hostile environment for many men and women of faith, discouraging them from entering or remaining in the armed services. The historic declines in recruitment will only continue to plummet until leadership throughout the Pentagon and the military ranks reject partisan and divisive ideologies.

I urge you to address this ongoing problem and return the focus of the U.S. military to training our brave men and women to fight and win our wars.

July 12, 2023   Dear John and Margaret, Last week our nation celebrated its 247th birthday. Every July, Independence Day is a time to remember America's heroes -- including our men and women in uniform -- and reflect on our cherished freedoms because of their sacrifice.

The U.S. Armed Forces has had the reputation of being the greatest fighting force on earth. But recently, our military has been trending weaker and more woke -- with the Biden administration promoting drag queens, Pride flags, and abortion within its ranks.

Radical ideology is replacing American patriotism, destroying morale, and making a mockery of our military on the world stage.

Thankfully, some elected leaders are pushing back against this dangerous nonsense. And Family Research Council is standing with them.

For weeks, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has led the charge to reverse the Pentagon's unprecedented and unconstitutional expansion of abortion in the military by refusing to advance promotions of military generals and flag officers until the Biden administration relents.

In February, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin bypassed congressional authority and implemented a new policy that allows service members and their dependents to receive up to three weeks of paid leave and paid travel and transportation costs to go out of state to receive an abortion.

Under this policy, an estimated 4,000 unborn lives a year are at stake. "The Biden administration wants to mobilize our military against the weakest and the most defenseless: the unborn," Tuberville said in a speech on the Senate floor. "I believe that is wrong. It is immoral."

Family Research Council is working with allies on Capitol Hill and from other conservative organizations to expose the woke ideology that is weakening our military ranks -- but we need your help.  You see, the Pentagon is not only using your tax dollars to cover abortions, but they are also expanding "gender transition" procedures for service members' families -- including minors -- in the military hospital system.

UK Report: Over One Third of Children on Puberty Blockers Experienced Worsened Mental Health  S.A. McCarthy

New research from UK is showing that over a third of children placed on puberty blockers and hormone drugs suffered severe mental health deterioration afterwards.

Contrasting data was a 2011 study conducted at the Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) clinic for children: puberty blockers cause no adverse mental health effects.

However, new analysis conducted by Susan McPherson and David Freedman: the majority of children put on puberty blockers and hormone drugs experienced erratic and fluctuating mental health.

The original study, conducted on 44 children between the ages of 12 and 15, was reportedly based on group averages, while the new analysis relied on individual results.  Last year, Britain’s NHS closed down the Tavistock GIDS clinic after a government report found that the staff rushed and even pressured minors into taking puberty blockers and hormone drugs with almost no psychological or medical oversight. 96% placed on puberty blockers by Tavistock staffers.

Puberty blockers and other hormone drugs, which the Tavistock clinic had been prescribing to children as young as 10 years old...whistleblowers...countless former patients who now, as adults, regret being put on puberty blockers and hormone drugs.  250 “patients” in 2011, 5,000 in 2021. Gender dysphoria from mental disorder to a human rights issue...lack of ongoing and long-term follow-up reports that address the impact of cross-sex hormones and surgeries.”

Growing swath of European medical experts who have backed off gender transition procedures for children. France, Sweden, Finland, and Norway have also put restrictions on the use of puberty blockers and hormone drugs on children. The U.S. still hasn’t.

In contrast to Europe, here is a sample of trans affirmation steaming ahead in the U.S.:  https://washingtonstand.com/news/ohio-governor-walks-back-health-safety-protections-on-transgender-industry    Feb 9 2024  Republican Gov. Ohio...has weakened proposed...increasing the speed at which the transgender industry can begin cross-sex hormones or surgeries...based on “assurances” from the transgender industry that it already self-polices...still being sued by the ACLU... Rep. Gary Click (R-88) said...ACLU has “a storied history of inventing fictitious rights"...Children, he said, have a right to grow up with their natural sex hormones and body parts intact. “Parents have a right to be free from counselors who groom their children"...“A 2021 comprehensive data review of all 3,754 trans-identified adolescents in US military families over 8.5 years showed that cross-sex hormone treatment leads to increased use of mental health services."

2024 May New Oxford Review May 2024 p. 5 Letter to editor by Dan Arthur Pryor   "Gender dysphoria in minor children is proceeding at lightning speed in the U.S." [but has stalled in Europe, where, somehow, common sense has put the brakes on.] The push of cancel culture and media insistence. Jason Morgan replies: Satanic abuse of children. "Doctors who claim to offer 'gender-affirming care' to the psychologically and spiritually wounded do not love their patients, they hate them."

National Rep. Congr. Comm.:  "Why will they clean up for China but not Californians?"  Cleaned up are homeless camps, open-air drug markets, property crime.  San Francisco homeless:  7700, mental illness and addiction.

Court orders have made it difficult to permanently remove camps.  Tenderloin "unimaginable human suffering" but is next to Twitter (X) headquarters.  Addicts overdose and die in open sight.  "San Francisco feels clean, smells good, and feels MUCH SAFER."  Van Ness street camps were visited 23 times during six months.  Van Ness was then cleared out, but homeless population scattered to other areas.

2023 Nov 11  https://www.reuters.com/world/pope-francis-dismisses-conservative-us-bishop-strickland-2023-11-11/

Pope Francis on Saturday dismissed Bishop Joseph E. Strickland of Tyler, Texas, one of his fiercest critics among U.S. Roman Catholic conservatives.    Strickland named to the diocese by the late Pope Benedict in 2012, tweeted earlier this year that he rejected Pope Francis' "program undermining the Deposit of Faith".     ..critical of the pope's attempt to make the Church more welcoming to the LGBT community and attempts by Francis to give lay people more responsibility in the Church (JE:  this can be seen as Pope Francis using laypeople to get done what the Catholic hierarchy won't do.)

Strickland in Tyler Morning Telegraph:  "The fundamental truths that once were and still should be the bedrock of our society are being challenged daily."  Related:  Sept 2020 Catholic pastor James Altman video "You cannot be Catholic and be a Democrat."    "You see all this confusion and turmoil in the church and then the one bishop that is standing up for authentic Catholicism, he gets targeted and removed...future saints are persecuted."  In France, two noted removals:  1995 bishop criticized church liberalism, archbishop ordained four bishops without Vatican approval and was excommunicated.  Malloy:  heterodox theologians and bishops challenge moral teaching.  Conservatives can't remain silent.  Faggioli:  erosion of norms around civility and conversation, spurred by social media.

In their new book Where Have All the Democrats Gone, Ruy Teixeira and John Judis argue that the Democratic Party has been led astray by what they call a “shadow party” of very progressive activists that can’t see through the bubble they live in...corrective to their 2002 book The Emerging Democratic Majority, that demographic changes would bolster Democrats after the old FDR coalition. That book seemed prophetic in 2006 and 2008...not fared well since.

Exodus of the white working class from Democrat Party.  Four issues turn off voters: race, immigration, transgenderism, and climate change...prioritizing extreme framing.  Some of the non-white working class is going with them.  “Defund the police” was a compelling idea to the shadow party.

[Both parties operate as if] it’s better to rule with a narrow, vulnerable majority than to govern with a broad one. [During Biden's presidency, 2020 to 2024, Republicans have a fragile House majority.  Dems have a fragile Senate majority that is sometimes punctured by Sinema and Manchin.  The "Biden crime family" is investigated only because the slim Republican majority in the House occasionaly pushes ahead.  (The numerous Biden family shell companies that receive millions of dollars of donations from China, etc. comes to light about Jan 2024.)]

2023 Dec 1  Conservative Catholic Cardinal Burke doesn't have an apartment at the Vatican any more.  Press is saying Pope Francis took it away because Burke and other conservatives are plaguing the Pope with dubia, official doubts about doctrine.

National Catholic Register Mar 11 2022  Cardinal Brandmuller:  "The Synodal Way of the Catholic Church in Germany is on the 'wrong track that is lost in nothingness.'"  Heresy of modernism.  "Clearly contradicting the authentic Catholic faith."  The Synodal Way votes in larger majority to make priestly celibacy optional.  Bishops voting this way are against their sworn obligation.  New [or recent] is "practiced homosexuality is recognized as morally permissible."  In part, "corresponds completely with the teachings of Martin Luther."  "Ever-evolving 'religious consciousness'" from Hegel.  "Should have urgently dealt with these movements" as Pope St. Pius X did in 1907.  "Smoldering underground."  At the Synodal Way, "no mention of death, judgement, and eternal life."  Is the Church simply a NGO, one among many?

National Catholic Register   German progressives seek gender theory as part of theology, lay governance.  Liberal Lutherans have had these for years.    Pope Francis came in in 2013 and summoned Catholics to get out of the sacristy and get dirty.  Now, there is an "image of bishops and ecclesial bureaucrats sitting around tables" in clean synod halls.  The coming U.N. climate conference in Dubai to be like the Synod on Synodality, meetings about meetings, networking about networks, dinners about dinnerality.

ncronline.org   NORC Chicago survey:  American Catholics are somewhat more tolerant than Protestants about divorce, homosexuals, living together without marriage.  Since 1973.  Internationally, the more the Catholic percentage, the more the tolerance.     Post-Vatican II, Catholics were either 1) following the documents of the Council, or 2) ignore the documents and go with "the spirit of the Council."  The latter predominated at seminaries, religious orders, Catholic universities, diocesan bureaucracies.  Result:  "collapsing Mass attendance, vanishing vocations, swift erosion of Catholic identity."  But the former was represented by two new popes, John Paul II (Polish) and Benedict (German).  Douthat:  Benedict could not finish John Paul II's restoration or control an ungovernable, corrupt, leak-riddled Roman Curia of the Vatican.

National Catholic Register   By German culture, those registered in Germany as Catholics have a tax levied to support the Catholic Church, 8% added tax, withdrawn from income by the government.  The tax ends if one applies to a local magistrate to cease being Catholic.  [Same applies to any religion.]  East Germany is "widely considered one of the most Godless places on earth."  Sunday Mass attendance 5% before Covid.  Projection:  by 2060, 40,000 parishes, monasteries, etc. in Germany will close.  Currently, 800,000 Germans employed by Catholic Church.  A collapse and shrinkage might "free the Church from the outsized influence of" employee organizations and heterodoxy.

2023 Dec 21 https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/abp-vigano-bergoglios-approval-of-blessings-for-homosexual-couples-shows-he-is-a-servant-of-satan/ Excerpts with critical review.

Archbishop Viganò writes fighting words: [Pope Francis] Bergoglio’s ‘blessings’ for homosexual couples show he is a ‘servant of Satan’

Satan "does not say to us:

Sin and offend the Lord who died for you on the Cross,

because Satan knows that a normal person does not want evil in itself, but that he usually does evil under the appearance of good." [Normal people do not rush to sin, they have a conscience that normally steers them toward caution.]

"In order to convince a man into adultery, the tempting spirit shows him the supposed advantages...the benefit of peace in the family. To urge a priest to accept the heretical deviations of his superiors, [Satan] emphasizes obedience to authority and the preservation of ecclesial communion."

"The next fall is all the more casual." "Away from the thought of Christ’s Passion [in the hours before his death on the cross], from the fact that every blow of the scourge, every slap, every thorn...is the fruit of our sins. And then, if you give in to temptation, it’s not your fault."

"Rebel against God, reject Him, blaspheme Him, hate Him because He has deprived you of your right to happiness." [H are inclined to say to each other, "Oh, they are trying again to take away our rights."]

"The delirious Declaration Fiducia Supplicans [written by Archbishop Tucho Fernández]...deception of the Bergoglian hierarchy, showing these false shepherds for what they really are: servants of Satan and his most zealous allies, beginning with the usurper who sits...on the Throne of Peter...like all those issued by Bergoglio, mocking and deceptive:...forgiveness without repentance." [Pope Francis has said that all will be together in the end. "Even the murderers?", a reporter asks. Yes. Never fear the final judgment, because Christ will always be at our side.]

"Sulphureous conciliar and synodal pharisaism. It is their immortal soul that is sacrificed to the woke idol, because on the day of the Particular Judgment they will discover that they have been deceived and betrayed by those who on Earth hold the authority of Christ." [The Roman Catholic doctrine of the successor of Peter, the first pope.]

"A lie that many members of the hierarchy want to believe." "Race to legitimize sodomy."

"For priests who do not agree...two paths are being prepared: the first, to be expelled from the parish or from the diocese ad nutum Pontificis; the second, to resign themselves to bartering their right to dissent in exchange for the recognition of the right of other confreres to approve." [A priest's pension depends on his continuance of conforming to the hierarchy.]

[From what the Pope says...] Bergoglio "does not want souls to be saved; he does not proclaim the Gospel opportunely." "Provoke Catholics to turn away from his church and leave him free to turn it into the concubine of the New World Order." [Many Baptist churches have former Catholics, those who want to hear the truth.]

"What’s going to prevent this blessing from being imparted...polyamory; or to minors, in the name of the sexual freedom that the globalist elite is introducing through the U.N. and other subversive international organizations...always be in the name of welcoming, integration, inclusiveness."

"This mad race towards the abyss to which a sect of renegade apostates would like to force us." "Warn the faithful and prevent these sacrilegious blessings in their dioceses."

Carlo Maria Viganò, Archbishop

The preceding makes more sense when this is understood:

https://www.corrispondenzaromana.it/international-news/archbishop-vigano-towards-anarcho-vacantism-2/

"The last months of 2023 has he explained his position with sufficient clarity."

“'A defect of consent' which would invalidate the government of Pope Francis. The defect of consent would consist in this: that the pope accepted his election outwardly, without the intention of promoting the good of the Church...Bergoglio’s behaviour is...anti-Catholic and heterogeneous with respect to the very essence of the Papacy...always rupturing...the Magisterium of the Church...and thus cannot be the true pope, even if he materially occupies the papal throne...what conspirator who acts maliciously in order to ascend to an office would be so naive as to explain to those who must elect him that he intends to become Pope in order to carry out the orders of the enemies of God and the Church?" [Vigano disagrees with those who say the role of Pope is vacant.]

https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/abp-vigano-bergoglios-approval-of-blessings-for-homosexual-couples-shows-he-is-a-servant-of-satan/

"He encourages [a same-sex couple], blesses them as irregular, as if they were not; but at the same time he deprives them of marriage [holding onto the traditional doctrine that marriage is between man and woman, permanent], and in this way admits that they are irregular. Bergoglio does not ask them to change their lives, but authorizes a grotesque farce." Look for a blessed couple to go and be civilly married, then gather with friends to "celebrate, cut a cake, and receive gifts," pretending to have been married by a priest.

catholicnews Cardinal Gerhard Muller: A priest giving a pastoral blessing; it would "be neither pastoral nor a blessing."

Muller in CNA: This type of blessing could as well be blessed on an abortion clinic or a Mafia group.

A web site: Fernández writes that those "seeking a blessing should not be required to have prior moral perfection." Remember Francis in 2013 said, "Who am I to judge?" "Some bishops will use it as a pretext to do what the document explicitly forbids, especially since the Vatican has not stopped them before."

2023 Dec HotAir web site In New York City, about 25% of high schools have been high-performing high schools, that have been for high-performing students. Liberal Mayor de Blasio decided it was unfair, or against equity (equality of outcome), to admit the most capable students (often Asians, rarely Hispanic and Black) to these schools. A lottery came to be figured into admission to try to bring about equity, by removing the most capable students. And the mayor moved against gifted programs. Mayor Adams, the successor, is reversing some of this in a "sweeping move." Stuyvesant High School, a block from World Trade Center, is the "most selective." In 2022, in 762 openings, 7 Black, 20 Latino, 489 Asian, 158 white. "Not make sense to hand 2/3 of the spots...to Black and Hispanic students who haven't prepared." San Francisco has been through this turmoil and had high schools drop out of the top-100.

2024 January  https://www.summit.org/resources/articles/hijacking-jesus-how-progressive-christians-are-remaking-him-and-taking-over-his-church/

Over the last several decades, progressive Christians...reinterpret Him as a Jewish mystic or as a manifestation of God devoid of divine claims and miracles...Progressive Christians say their “modernizing of Jesus” makes Him a more friendly and accepting figure...And they are not subtle about it.

...They see it as a recovery—a rescuing of Jesus...Jesus as more of a “liberator” than a “Savior.”  The Church has only become susceptible to these attacks through its own laxity in preserving doctrinal truth.

2024 Jan 31  FBI Wray testifies before the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.  FBI acted against Volt Typhoon, which inserted malicious code into hundreds of routers, many of them outdated and vulnerable.  Targets include water treatment, power grid, oil and natural gas, and ports and transportation.  From last May, Microsoft advised people to take some security actions.  Jan Easterly:  hackers able to live within a computer's operating system and act at the level of sys admin.  [ Windows 11 is resistant to root kits. ]  "If or when China decides the time has come to strike," such as to overwhelm Taiwan.  [ Much press recently about the world's biggest semiconductor fabs in Taiwan, using the most sophisticated processing to make advanced processors.  A clue about world's sensitivity to semiconductor tech:  the supply-chain disruptions at COVID-19 time put lower-tech semiconductors in short supply and kept cars from being built, the modules and PC boards couldn't be made.    Another vulnerability is that of the power grid, including long-lead-time large transformers, to nuclear electromagnetic pulse, NEMP, and this is a frequent topic for Coast to Coast AM. ]  "Very basic flaws in our technology.  We have made it easy on them."  "Inherently insecure because of decades of software developers not being held liable for defective technology...speed to market prioritized against security."  CNN:  "deeply entrenched in US infrastructure."    "The defining threat of our generation."  "Potential mass casualties."  "Exacerbated by the interconnected nature of modern infrastructure."  [ JE:  where a library of code could be infected, and that library is widely used in Linux, Microsoft, Apple, and industrial controller software in a large percentage of computerized systems, ranging from smart phones to airline scheduling.  Ref:  Dec 2022 Southwest Airlines massive shutdown.              JE:  the mention of mass casualties can be these ways:  pharmacy computers shut down so people can't get medicine, that could kill 4% of U.S. population, 13 million, in weeks.  Fuel-supply disruption could keep bodies from being buried.  Water treatment stopped in inland cities, raw sewage dumped in rivers causes infections from Campylobacteriosis, Cryptosporidiosis, E coli, Giardiasis, and many others, killing millions downriver, at a time when hospitals are overloaded by unmedicated, chronic-disease sufferers.  Traffic-signal shutdown keeping people from going to work and keeping trucks from delivering to stores;  probably affects rail deliveries, also.  All containerized shipping stopped;  12 U.S. seaports annually handle 23 million twenty-foot equivalent units of cargo, TEUs.       Business software users and consumers would doubt the security of transactions and might refrain from doing business and buying online, and this could make credit card users refrain from buying.  This would be an unprecedented economic disruption.  If electrical power is stopped, looters would clear out food stores, and starvation could happen.  (Good for the survivalists who stockpile.)

Biden appeared late evening of the day the report came out, press conference hastily called, "lashed out" at the report but had memory trouble during that very press conference.  Buck and Clay:  Biden frequently makes the sympathy appeal, his first wife and baby daughter died in car crash, son died from cancer, other son a long-term drug addict.       Someone on radio:  Mrs. Biden likes being First Lady, otherwise she would be pressing him to step down.

2024 about March 5  Coast to Coast AM with George Noory   I don't know who the guest is, but nominal Catholic Noory clearly states what has been veiled before, his idea of Christianity is to develop your soul and keep it pure(Noory holds dear the idea of reincarnation and promotes astrology and mediums.)  This is at odds with orthodox Christianity which says sin is a fundamental problem of all people of all time, and Jesus' forgiveness is the thing that saves people, not being good.  Many Catholics are stuck in ignorance and are taught that being good is the real thing.     https://samueltwilkinson.com/  In Purpose, Yale Prof Wilkinson [evolution supporter]...discoveries from a variety of scientific disciplines—ranging from evolutionary biology to cognitive psychology—suggest there is an overall purpose for human existence...Are we ultimately selfish or altruistic? Do we have free will? What is at the root of human happiness? How can a society simultaneously maximize individual happiness and communal well-being?...our innate desire to seek for meaning, purpose, and ultimately God, is not at odds with science and evolution.   evoxcross  A caller, or the guest on the show, says religion gives meaning (which pure science has no comment about) but materialist academe doesn't want to talk about religion.  A Yale graduate, famous William F. 2024 Ap 9  Uri Berliner, worked at NPR (National Public Radio) 25 yrs, says NPR lost its way when it started telling listeners how to think.  "An open-minded spirit no longer exists within NPR...we don't have an audience that reflects America."  Listeners usually coastal elite.  Uri:  "I was raised by a lesbian peace activist mother.  I fit the NPR mold."  NPR "distills the worldview of a very small segment of the U.S."  The progressive shift was between 2011 and 2023.  "Efforts to topple Trump."  "We hitched our wagon to Rep. China...one of the fastest-growing nuclear arsenals among the nine nuclear-armed states.

Three new missile silo fields for solid-fuel ICBMs, new silos for its liquid-fuel DF-5 ICBMs, new variants of ICBMs and advanced strategic delivery systems. Dual-capable DF-26 intermediate-range ballistic missile force. At sea, China has been refitting its Type 094 ballistic missile submarines with the longer-range JL-3 submarine-launched ballistic missile. In addition, China has recently reassigned an operational nuclear mission to its bombers.  [Consider how close the Taiwan microchip factories are to Chinese mainland.]

The readiness of the Chinese nuclear missile force was challenged in early 2024 with disclosure...corruption...an erosion of confidence in its overall capabilities.     Stealth bomber with longer range...H-20, will have both a nuclear and conventional capability with a range exceeding 10,000 kilometers.

2024 May New Oxford Review May 2024 p. 28 Jason Morgan, Mark Ramseyer "How Cowardice, the Herd, and Twitter Mobs Threaten Academia"

Cutthroat careerists stalk the halls of universities. Promotions. Staying ahead of the woke mob. The authors are grads of U to Tennessee at Chattanooga, "a point of ridicule to academic Twitter mobs." "You upended three decades of fake news" that claimed to be "rigourous scholarship" when you debunked Jeju Island sex slaves in WWII. Asian historians agree with Ramseyer but American historians "recycle" the sex-slaves "nonsense." "For your trouble you got death threats and new crews stalking you at your house." "Endless cancelings, university punishments, DEI complexes, diversity-statement oaths." "Dismantling our academic freedom." "The slogan in American academia seems to be, 'You Don't Have the Authority to Ask Questions.' " "Students who want to think for themselves avoid the humanities" and often go STEM. "The students without intellectual courage are practically the only ones who sign up for history and literature." Try to out-woke the other lemmings. "In an academy hijacked by DEI and groupthink," there are clannish inquisitions.

2024 June 27   A presidential candidate debate, 90 minutes, is sponsored by CNN, with commercials, apart from the old-line Commission on Presidental Debates, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  Trump and Biden.  Biden and up to 16 advisors met for five days at Camp David to prepare, while Trump, fresh from the long NYC criminal trial about the Stormy Daniels funding and 34 felony convictions, continues rallies.  (Sentencing is pending, but will be delayed until September after the Supreme Court's decision about presidential immunity, July 1.)  Biden is seen by most Americans as declining mentally, and many videos bear this out.     https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/joe-biden-age-election-2024-8ee15246?mod=hp_lead_pos7 by Wall Street JournalKevin McCarthy: “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house. He’s not the same person.”

The Journal reported that the White House insists Biden remains a sharp and vigorous leader, and that any criticism is all about partisan politics.  Special Counsel Robert Hur's report in February about Biden's long-time retention of classified documents in an automobile garage:  “It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”   "Well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory."

JE's comment:  If Pres. Biden is so affected by dementia when he is thoroughly prepared by a staff for five days, what is he like when there is a crisis and he meets with the Joint Chiefs or the Cabinet or a hostile world leader?    Conservative press notes that the President is the one to make the ultimate decision about ICBM launch against Russia or China.  See in red area below, KTVZ.com.

Politico quotes Biden:  "I know how to tell the truth.  I know right from wrong."  JE:  Yet, he says many things that are not true, as many Democrats do, especially Congressman Adam Schiff, and the media ignore the lack of truth.  And Biden toes the abortion line with Planned Parenthood, that the good of the mother, or the wishes of the mother, goes before life of the baby.       Reason Magazine quotes Biden from the debate, the most rambling of his statements:  "...I've been able to do with the with the Covid, excuse me, with, um, dealing with everything we have to do with, uh, look, if ... we finally beat Medicare."     No one offers an explanation of what Biden was trying to say.    Reason:  many answers an incoherent jumble, struggling with germane responses, halting, hard to follow.     Business Insider:  spoke too quickly [JE:  Biden has always talked quickly, and in old age he can't slow down;  this makes him hard to understand], couldn't enunciate and emphasize keywords.  Averting eye contact.      He [his debate negotiation team] pushed for an empty room, muted mics, Fox News on the sidelines.  He got everything he desired [, and Trump gave him everything, yet it didn't go well for Biden.]   David Axelrod, former senior Obama advisor:  a sense of shock at the beginning of this debate.   [For 30 minutes at the start of the 90 minutes, Biden was doing poorly.]      Democrats are scrambling to  fashion a way forward before the Democrat National Convention in Chicago August 19.

2024 July 3  After June 27 debate between presidential candidates Biden and Trump, unusual because they both seek a second term, Biden maintains that he is fit as president and will continue his candidacy, despite deficiencies seen by everyone who watched.  The TV audience was large, 51 million, energized by months of controversy over whether Biden has dementia.

Politico  Jay Surdukowski, Democrat activist:  Biden is toast.  Raspy voice, disjointed, rambling answers, losing train of thought.  Trump says on the air, "I really don't know what he said at the end there.  I don't think he knows what he said."

CNN Politics   Dem donor class is in crisis

ABC News   [For months, video of Pres. Biden shows halting gait and verbal gaffes.]   The gamble did not pay off.   Higher taxes on the wealthiest...child care, elder care, strengthen our health care system. [People who do the math show that 100% marginal tax rate on the wealthiest does not pay for any of that.]     Sen. Coons:  Biden is the only one who can beat Trump.  [This is common knowledge, any Dem replacement would be far behind in name recognition.]   Biden quoted by ABC News web site:  Making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the--with the COVID, excuse me--dealing with everything we have to do with, look...we finally beat Medicare.

Politico   Dems really have no way to spin this.  The senior team's management of the president growing more strictly controlled as his term has gone on.  Great lengths to curate the information being presented [to Biden] in an effort to avoid provoking a negative reaction.  It's a Rorschach test, not a briefing.  People are scared _____ of him.  A perfect storm because he just gets more and more isolated from their efforts to control it.  Inside the White House, Biden's growing limitations were becoming apparent long before his debate meltdown.

MSN   Chandler West, on Biden White House staff until May 2022:  I know how the White House operates...but for weeks and months, in private, they have all said what we saw [what a worldwide audience saw during the debate] -- Joe is not as strong."  A Dem campaign e-mail:  critics are a bed wetting brigade, self-important podcasters, MAGA uncles.

Yahoo News   R.T. Ryback:  elected officials remain 'shockingly silent' in public about replacing Biden for fear of political retribution.  But replacing Biden would create further division among Dems.  A weak Biden pulls down the Dem vote, up and down the ballot.  [This is why Dems don't pull the plug on Biden, doing so would practically guarantee a Trump win in November.  Dems are after a continuation in power, they don't care much at all about Biden the politician.  It is easy to argue that Dems are committing elder abuse.]

This Morning, America's First News, with Gordon Deal, July 2 4 AM:  Biden's age front and center.  Dem senators and representatives who are seeking re-election are telling Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries that Biden is hurting their vote.

The Daily Caller   Jill Biden Says She Understands Americans' Financial Pains While Wearing $10,000 Outfit for Vogue [Magazine] Interview

The Hill   Presidential aides shield Biden from big moments, including interviews and off-the-cuff interactions.  Backfired at the debate.  "Everyone has been on eggshells about this sort of thing happening."  "The staff watch him like a hawk to step in before a thing happens."  "Oh, God, is this the day when something sideways happens?"

Washington Examiner  March 7 2024  On MSNBC, March 6, Morning Joe Live, Joe Scarborough defends Biden.  In hours of talking with Biden, "might misplace a word here or there" but is really sharp.  The best Biden ever.  Because he has been around 50 years.  If it weren't the truth, I wouldn't say it.

Axios   Stunned many because closest aides took steps early in his presidency to essentially rope off the president.  Even the White House residence staff is kept at arm's length.  The separation between the family and the residence staff was so big...it's not supposed to be.

Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has harsh words for Vice President Joe Biden’s foreign policy judgement in his soon-to-be-released memoir, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War.  Gates calls Biden “a man of integrity,” but “I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”  [JE:  Once Hunter Biden's laptop divulged so much about millions made by Hunter, advising foreign companies but really just a personal connection to Joe Biden the U.S. VP, greasing the rails to get things done,    and the dozen or so shell companies, LLCs, that the payments were made to, then the funds divided up and shifted around to cover up the corruption, with 10% to the Big Man, the integrity of the Biden family is much in doubt.]

Gates, the only high-level holdover from the Bush administration to President Barack Obama’s Cabinet, reveals he nearly quit his post in September 2009 while Obama reviewed his Afghanistan strategy...“deeply uneasy with the Obama White House’s lack of appreciation — from the top down — of the uncertainties and unpredictability of war."   Gates was a backer of a substantial troop increase for Afghanistan early in Obama’s first term, while Biden argued for a smaller counter-terrorism mission in the country.

Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed their opposition to the 2007 Iraq surge in the context of politics. “Hillary told the president that her opposition to the [2007] surge in Iraq had been political because she was facing him in the Iowa primary. . . . The president conceded vaguely that opposition to the Iraq surge had been political. To hear the two of them making these admissions, and in front of me, was as surprising as it was dismaying.”

2024 July 5  Pres. Biden accepted (or advocated for??) an interview with Dem. media person and former Clinton White House communication director George Stephanopoulos, with the aim of answering critics of his debate with Trump on June 27.  The interview was recorded mid-day and aired at 8PM Eastern time.  To his great credit, Stephanopoulos was on air before the interview playback, saying ABC did not edit the 22 minute interview, "did not touch" the video.  Biden continued his strong push to continue as the Democrat presidential candidate despite falling polling.  He declined to be cognitively tested, and depends on the good bill of health given him early in 2024, details of which are available on-line.  (Some note that Biden's cognition deteriorates over the months, implying that a five-month-old medical report has limited validity now.  Significantly, the President's old-person gait is due to spinal arthritis.  But see below Dr. Tom Pitts.

2024 Aug 20  Clay and Buck Show makes such a to-do about the lies of Pres. Biden during his hour-long speech concluding the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.  (Pres. Biden had finally accepted Dem elites such as Pelosi telling him to end his campaign so that a younger Dem could be president in the next four years.  Pres. Biden really looked pretty good on this night, at 10:30PM, but at other times looks demented.)

Biden: "And you know, Trump will do everything to ban abortion nationwide."  DNC video advertisement: Trump said, "There has to be some form of punishment" for women who have abortions.

Mostly false

Biden: "Instead of paying $400 a month for insulin, seniors with diabetes will pay $35 a month."

Half True.  Medicare enrollees likely were not paying $400 a month before these changes.

Biden: "Trump wants to cut Social Security and Medicare."

Mostly False for Social Security and Mostly False for Medicare.

Biden: "On (Trump’s) watch the murder rate went up 30%, the biggest increase in history."

Half True.

Biden: The average semiconductor industry salary "will be over $100,000 a year, and you don't need a college degree."

Mostly False, more like $70,000.

Biden: "We have 1,000 billionaires in America. You know what their average tax rate (is)? 8.2%."

False.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.: "Want to have a child, but need IVF? Too bad. That’s shut down, too (under Trump)."

False.

U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif.: "While schools closed, and dead bodies filled morgues, Donald Trump downplayed [COVID-19]. He told us to inject bleach into our bodies."

Mostly False.  [Governing Dems often went to extremes with shutdowns.]

Other disputed things were found true by the checkers.  Trump is often found to be false by fact checkers, but that is often because when Trump says there was no inflation in 2020, he means there was small enough inflation that inflation was not alarming.

2024 Aug 19  First day of Dem National Convention, many speakers and singers delay Pres. Biden until well past prime time.  Speculation that since he is out of the election, it is best to remove him as much as possible from the prime time, in case he stumbles.    Yahoo News:  Nate Silver, the delays were by design.       Mark Knoller:  "Biden was booted...out of prime time."    Transcript from TIME, these are quotes:  what I saw in Charlottesville in Aug 2017, extremists coming out of the woods, carrying torches, their veins bulging from their necks...Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Ku Klux Klan...didn't even bother to wear their hoods.  Hate was on the march.                 Biden left out the fact that KKK was southern Dems.

CNN fact checks Dem statements during first day of DNC.  The CNN web page is copyrighted, so here are just some phrases, but the net is that there was a lot of lying.

Democratic state and federal officeholders, including President Joe Biden, delivered some false, misleading or lacking-key-context claims.  Biden repeated misleading claims...overstated...outdated...omitted context...Sen. Dick Durbin...without mentioning the critical context... Sen. Mallory McMorrow falsely claimed... Rep. Robert Garcia misleadingly...wrongly saying Trump had instructed Americans to inject bleach.

JE:  Not saying that Republicans don't lie, but are these DNC lies consequential?  Sure they are.  The leading Dem claim that Trump lies over and over about a stolen 2020 election is walking a fine line;  NPR says 44,000 votes in Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin separated Biden and Trump from a tie in the Electoral College.  JE:  Aug 26 2024 Texas has recently removed 500,000 dead people from voter rolls.  Up to 2000 people, immigrants unqualified to vote, may have voted in 2020.  When a political race is so narrowly balanced, a little fraud can switch the election.

[DNC speech  In a big white straw hat] JAVIER SALAZAR, BEXAR COUNTY SHERIFF: On the other side of the border the traffickers, they pack migrants into 18-wheelers like cattle, fifty, a hundred at a time, then they seal the doors. That is where the 911 calls come. We hear them, desperate, terrified , gasping for air.

Sometimes, we get there in time. Sometimes, despite our best efforts we can't.

When Donald Trump comes down to Texas and stands next to officers in uniforms, just like mine, he is not there to help us. Don't think that, not for a second. He is a self-serving man. I mean look, just like when he killed the border bill, he just made our jobs harder.  [The border bill was stopped in the U.S. Senate for multiple reasons, including inadequate time to examine and amend.  Numerous border sheriffs are Trump supporters.]

Kamala, on the other hand has been fighting border crime for years. She has gone down to Mexico and worked to stop the traffickers. When the traffickers didn't stop, she put them in jail. Now, down in my neck in the woods we call that fooling around and finding out.

I may be paraphrasing a bit. We protectors -- the border sheriffs that I know and I, we're like Kamala. We protect and serve, we enforce the law. We show compassion and we fight like hell to protect our border. Because that's what's all we've always known in Texas.

Cuando peleamos ganamos. When we fight we win.    JE:  Sheriff Salazar is sheriff in my county, Bexar County.  He is distinctly partisan whereas SAPD chief McManus seems to stay out of politics.  Salazar is criticized by most Texas border sheriffs.

"When the traffickers didn't stop, she put them in jail" statement by Salazar may be reference to https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/attorney-general-kamala-d-harris-announces-takedown-contra-costa-gangs-nets-35 in 2011 and Operation Road Trip in 2014.  But Salazar said what he said to be ambiguous.  Joe Pags Show originating in San Antonio accused Salazar of lying right and left in his short DNC speech.    It may be that DNC set up Salazar to make a statement that Kamala can hang her hat on in subsequent campaigning.  Sheriff Salazar is an outspoken Dem while San Antonio PD police chief McManus seems to be above politics.

JE interpretations.

Americans are in tribes.  More emotion and less reason.

Walz essentially says government does whatever it wants and don't you complain about it.   That is the way he governed Minnesota during COVID-19 and during riots after George Floyd death.   Walz is communist, says Nico.

DNC (Dem National Convention in Chicago) hid who they are.  No policies mentioned because they are after power, and you don't need policies or consistency to exercise power.  Policies get in the way of power, when you want to switch policies.  There are no moral principles behind Dem power.  JE:  Around Aug 26, more and more talk about Kamala Harris being vague in her campaign speeches, saying nothing where she can be pinned down or charged with 180-degree changes to what she advocates.

Battle of world views.  Dems are in a delusional bubble.   Can anything Dems want be reduced to policies or platform?  (Is there reason behind Dem power?  Is it merely capricious rule by elites?)

[Abortion is an exception to principles-free ruling, if that industry has principles of population reduction or female freedom from responsible sex, Dems endorse it.  Not complaining that women are responsible for unwanted pregnancies, it is just that women are usually able to say no to men.  Men have equal responsibility in creating unwanted pregnancy.]

Bexar County Sheriff Salazar has lost himself to politics, some local people call him Hollywood Javier.  No one holds him to account.  Nico has known him for years.

The border bill defeat that Sheriff Salazar blamed on Republicans:  the border bill was bad legislation, it would have been bad if Congress had passed it and Pres. Biden had signed it.  It had a lot of click bait.  It codified illegal migration.  The 5000 per day threshold for its intended application would have been meaningless because no one would be counting anyway.

About Robert F Kennedy Jr. endorsement of Trump and RFK cessation of his independent presidential campaign:  RFK Jr cares about children and cares about damage done to children by COVID policies and school closures. His family remains true to Dem machine and turned against him.

George:  I would love RFK Jr to be Secretary of Dept of Health and Human Services.  Here is how HHS describes itself:  Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Head Start, child care, and child support help individuals, families, and communities.  Informing you about food, drugs, medical devices, violence prevention.  Flu, vaccines, tobacco, health care, mental health, food safety, bullying, HIV/AIDS.  Poverty Guidelines.

Kamala said during the DNC that the border is secure.  This has been a widespread claim in the Biden Administration.  [JE:  this is a lie.] Despite surges in illegal crossings, crossings away from ports of entry, "got-aways."

AB-1840 California   Politico  By Eric He 08/26/2024 A first-in-the-nation California proposal could make undocumented immigrants eligible for up to $150,000 [per home] in state-supported home loans [JE:  how much of this is subsidy, taxpayers giving money to migrants?] just as immigration has become an incendiary topic in the presidential election.  JE:  California has high income tax plus sales tax, making it so expensive to live in California that the middle class can hardly afford home or apartment.  And wildfires are boosting fire insurance in areas that have trees close to dwellings, which is why the town of Paradise burned up.

2024 Aug 23  Fox News  Robert F. Kennedy Jr. withdraws, asks supporters to vote for Trump.  Said in Phoenix that the Democratic Party "waged continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself," and "ran a sham primary."  "Relentless, systematic censorship and media control."    DNC battled Kennedy and his supporters at nearly every step as he worked to place his name on the ballot in all 50 states.       Kennedy described the modern Democratic Party as "the party of war, censorship, corruption, big pharma, big tech, big ag, and big money."

"The DNC waged continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself," said Kennedy. "Each time that our volunteers turned in those towering boxes of signatures needed to get on the ballot, the DNC dragged us into court, state after state, attempting to erase their work and disappear with the will of the voters, which signed those petitions."

"It deployed DNC aligned judges to throw me and other candidates off the ballot, and to throw President Trump in jail."    Meeting personally with Trump..."we are aligned on many key issues," said Kennedy of the meetings.

The Atlantic   "Democratic Party:  Now, as ever, it is a bit of a mess."  [Because of rampant identity politics?]  "This can make for an awkward production [thinking of a national party convention as a production, and this DNC was a production]."  "Tried to put a chipper face on."  "Politics of joy."  [JE:  a meaningless phrase to distract voters.]    Demonstrators outside, at Union Park, "condemned Harris as responsible for the bloodshed in Gaza."      JE:  When we took our granddaughters to Chicago on our return Amtrak trip from upstate NY, NH, VT, we stayed in Chicago Loop on night of July 4, 2023, three months after the April 16 youth riot in the northeast corner of the Loop, knowing that Chicago had to clamp down on violence before the Dem National Convention a year later.  And Chicago got it done.

2024 Aug 27 Clay Travis on Clay and Buck Show  FBI had Hunter's laptop and knew it was valid, but someone in FBI steered FBI to warn press that laptop was Russian disinformation, and this kept Biden's image of grandfatherly benefactor to the U.S. from being trashed by a laptop scandal.  Kept Trump from winning the election.  Clay says this is a scandal way beyond Watergate.  Mark Zuckerberg confirmed some of this to House committee Aug 26, a letter.  After four years, no one in FBI is held accountable.  Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson calls into the show.  Sabotaging our investigation of Hunter.  They were essentially told by the FBI, "no one who cooperates with this will get in trouble."  Coordinated with warnings to Twitter, Facebook, liberal media, etc. to bury the truth in the laptop until after Biden inaugurated.

Senator Johnson "resisted stay at home orders, used his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee to invite witnesses who promoted fringe theories about COVID-19 and spread misinformation about COVID-19 vaccinations."  This is a quote from a liberal editor of Wikipedia.  More liberal Wikipedia:  "Johnson rejects the scientific consensus on climate change."

2024 Aug 28  Clay Travis    Clay and Buck Program on radio    paraphrase by JE     Kamala Harris has a whole staff of advisors.  They are so terrified that she will say something harmful to her campaign that they won't let her be interviewed.  She is a chameleon, she is walking back many of the statements she made as vice president.  Eliminate the electric vehicle mandates.  Build more Southwest border wall.  On the other hand, uniformed, armed public-school security police (campus police) must be eliminated.  These pronouncements are because she wants to win against Trump and she says whatever she thinks will appeal to undecided voters.  She has no foundational principles backing up her values, everything is ad hoc.

"Kamala is no genius."  She took two tries to pass the bar exam.  Gov. Walz is a moron, I think.  (Paraphrase the on-air radio show.)

I get death threats for what I say on the radio.  I have private security to protect my family.  The security officer told me he counted local police driving by on the street, twelve times last night.  They have my back.  How about the FBI, when we know the FBI influenced social media to ignore the Hunter laptop?  My local police have my back, but I don't know about that FBI.

The New York Times and Washington Post are abandoning much of their advertising revenue source in favor of revenue through Internet subscription.  They no longer report truth.  What they tell subscribers is what the liberal subscribers want to hear, that they are the good people and Republicans are the evil people.  NYT and the Post are ignoring the current story, Zuckerberg (Meta, used to be Facebook) writing to the House Judiciary Committee chaired by Jim Jordan about censorship (about Hunter's laptop) promoted by FBI, and how Facebook complied, but Meta would probably not comply today.  (Other censorship was about COVID vaccine effectiveness.)

Jim Jordan (R Ohio) live with Clay on Aug 28.  Facebook was steering traffic depending on the politics advocated on web sites, and Facebook took away my (Clay's Outkick) traffic.  A big financial impact.

James Bennet 2023 Dec 14  https://www.economist.com/1843/2023/12/14/when-the-new-york-times-lost-its-way    Quotes from a very long article.

Polarization and social media viciously enforce rigid orthodoxies.  [He means progressive orthodoxies, and there are certainly conservative sources that enforce conservative orthodoxy.]  Your own side demonizes for fear they will harm its [own] cause.  Times and other mainstream news organizations failed plenty of times to live up to their commitments to integrity.   The national media followed the money by serving partisan audiences the versions of reality they preferred.  To assert that the Times plays by the same rules it always has is to commit a hypocrisy that is transparent to conservatives, dangerous to liberals and bad for the country.  Progressive elite talks to itself about an America that does not really exist.

2024 Sept 1  speculation by John Engelbrecht    After seeing Rick Steves in Leipzig and Dresden Germany, both in eastern Germany as is Berlin, which were sites of giant battles in 1800s and in WWII (Leipzig, the Battle of Nations which defeated Napoleon), I think this:  Americans fought and died in WWII in these places (less so in WWII Japan, the fire-bombed cities in Japan were witnessed by few Americans) and brought home memories of awful death and destruction.  Surely those memories affected politics in the U.S.  Those WWII veterans have died, now, and no longer affect U.S. politics.  Is this why U.S. politics is so toxic now?  I do not see this in the media, so I can claim it as an original thought, for all I know.

2024 Sept 18    Sean "Diddy" Combs, now age 54, a rich (maybe $800 million) "music mogul," has gotten himself a lot of trouble, and quickly once things started rolling, because some women are complaining in court (Cassie Ventura) and Homeland Security has collected much evidence, March raid of Combs' LA and Miami properties.  This is a big difference from what happened with Epstein and Weinstein, where cases dragged for years.  (This time, with Combs, a racketeering conspiracy charge.)  How many more powerful men are now going to face consequences?  Are they busy combing through logs and destroying evidence?  Are Combs' facilitators, among his paid staffs, going to be indicted?  Are the hotels where he rented suites or floors in trouble for letting anything happen during a day or up to three days, when freak offs typically destroy furniture, floors, and walls, and hotels charge Combs for repairs?  Don't they know what is coming?  Does a hotel need to buy into the idea that personal freedom is limitless?

He is in jail in a "notoriously violent and uncomfortable" Brooklyn jail, denied bond because "victims [allege] he tries to threaten and control witnesses."

"Combs could send "coded messages" to obstruct justice," sending them to his many employees.  ""Security staff, household staff, personal assistants, and high-ranking supervisors” of his companies."

"For more than a decade Combs planned and ran an elaborate series of "Freak Offs" — highly orchestrated s    performances, typically held at hotels, at which he used drugs, violence, and threats to coerce [invited and unpaid] women [and drugged them, and men, with cocaine, ecstasy, GHB and ketamine] into s    activity with" paid male pr         , blackmailing the women to stay quiet.  "Combs reached out [using smart phone media, for which call logs generally can't be erased] to victims dozens of times to try to feed them false narratives that they had willingly engaged in ..."    Judge "strained to understand why the [defense attorney would say the] example of violence caught on tape...should not be an indication that he's a danger to people around him."  "He still has "vast resources" at his disposal to help him flee if he wanted to, and alleging that he repeatedly called grand jury witnesses to get them to change their stories about him."  [Is this witness tampering?]

"Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein — like Combs — were prosecuted in New York, and their...prosecutions experienced critical delays and derailments.  In Epstein’s case, he was not indicted...[until] more than a decade after reaching a...deal in Florida that allowed him to resume his pattern of r_ _ _ and ... abuse of minors."  "Epstein and Weinstein...crimes were also facilitated and then concealed by a coterie of employees, publicists and friends."  In Comb's present case, 120 smart phones and other computer parts in custody have evidence.  Three AR-15s with defaced serial numbers.  Evidence from 300 grand jury subpoenas.  "Squirreling away his victims in hotels...to recover from injuries Combs inflicted."

complex.com...turned-him-into-a-monster:  ex-bodyguard Gene Deal...the music industry changed him...when he lived in Cali, Colombia and Miami he turned into Godzilla.  He learned from Andre Harrell, Russell Simmons [alleged victim's public notice starting 2017 for assault in late 1990s]...make him think he can get away with the same thing...he knew he was wrong.  "Shyne took the fall in 1999 shooting in which Diddy was acquitted."

Various Internet sources:  Hip hop music lyrics are sometimes about Black Americans being disproportionately punished through the legal system.  JE:  Blacks surely do show up in prisons far in excess of their percentage of population, but that is because there is more urban crime among Blacks.  Fewer tips to police, fewer witness testimonies in court, more fear of reprisal from gangs, less cooperation from communities where there is nightly gunfire on the streets, crowds of witnesses melting away from around the bodies on the sidewalk when police arrive.  Hip hop lyrics complain about racism.     But should the lyrics popularize hate of police?  Famous [or infamous, for prosecuting former Pres. Trump] Fani Willis, Atlanta-area DA:  "Prosecuting 26 alleged members of the Drug Rich Gang, who are charged with kidnappings, armed robberies, shootings and high-profile home invasions."  “If you decide to admit your crimes over a beat, I’m going to use it.”  “I’m not targeting anyone, but however, you do not get to commit crimes in my county and then decide to brag on it.”  https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/31/us/rapper-lyrics-used-against-them-court/index.html

How much does First Amendment protect free speech violence in lyrics?

2024 Sept 25   Clay and Buck Show, they say that Democrats are in a presidential campaign mode of "whatever it takes."  The hate of Donald Trump is so extreme, though much of the criticism of Trump is not true, that the Kamala Harris campaign doesn't care that she takes certain positions four years ago but flip-flops now.  She flip flops because she is looking for votes, she is buying votes by promising to do things, and her advisers calculate how many votes are lost vs. gained by flip flopping any policy.  But if she casually changes her mind about Mexican border wall, electric vehicle mandate, eliminating private health insurance, ICE, defunding police, Green New Deal, how many more things can she flip flop if she is elected president?  Should the American public accept frequent changes of policy that seem to be devoid of undergirding values?        Harris is granting few interviews.  Conservatives charge that she is hiding from the press and the public.

Same day, Pres. Biden on The View ABC says if he had continued in presidential race of 2024, he would have beaten Trump.  Polls at the time of Biden's dropping out disagreed.  ABC News recently:  Schumer and Pelosi pressured him to drop out.  On The View, Biden repeats his criticism of Trump:  not a social redeeming value there, not believe in democracy.  Trump supporters charge that the criticisms of Trump are generally true of Biden and Harris, not Trump, if you hear a Democrat leader complaining about something, it is often more true that the Democrat speaker himself is guilty of the charge.

2024 Oct 4  In a span of 9 hours, JE sees orthodox Christians in the U.S. in two different lights.    1) pessimistic, New Oxford Review Oct 2024, Prof. Caitlin Smith Gilson "Twilight of the Universities", and 2) optimistic about orthodox Catholics, an Internet article by AP News by Tim Sullivan, 2024 Ap 30, many new U.S. Roman Catholic priests are orthodox, or conservative, and parishes in their influence are turning orthodox.  Though progressives in those parishes get offended and leave.  Parallel to United Methodist Church shrinking and Global United Church, orthodox, growing.

Pessimism Prof. Gilson writes in New Oxford ReviewShe talks in a roundabout way to avoid condemning one university, but it seems she, a conservative Catholic philosophy professor, and the entire theology department were fired from University of Holy Cross and replaced by woke-minded liberals.  But among the universities Gilson has taught at, maybe another one is the one she refers to.  To remain in academe, they all had to find new teaching positions, and most had to take low-pay, entry-level positions, as there are no tenured positions held in reserve.  What she writes is along the lines of decades of advancing progressivism in U.S. Catholic church, which is showing signs of turning around.  Her experience was a sudden "wokening" at her university.  The fired professors were pretty much marched to the edge of campus, never to return.  Some phrases:  intellect, wisdom, and common sense once commingled in most universities.  Deadening identity politics sweeping through, progressivism free from basic principles, fraudulent language games, every drive is a lust to rule [in other articles, the phrase is that progressives and Marxists operate by power].  New, conservative universities are Hillsdale, Ave Maria, and University of Dallas.

(Parallel between 1) woke and 2) purposeless evolution by mutations.  They both operate by power and are ready to dismiss faculty for failing the litmus test.)

More phrases.  Suppressing essential civilizational values under the banner of the cult of the victim.  Following Descartes;  see this time line for the depredations of Descartes.  Truth and freedom are nonrational in the woke mind.  Critical Race Theory is hallowed ground, it celebrates all that is opposed to Catholic teaching.  Catholicism becomes a discomfort and oppression.  Sexual politics is often a catalyst.

Optimism The counterpoint to what Gilson writes about is AP News, https://apnews.com/article/catholic-church-shift-orthodoxy-tradition-7638fa2013a593f8cb07483ffc8ed487.  Tim Sullivan, 2024 Ap 30.  A Step Back in Time:  America's Catholic Church sees an immense shift toward the old ways.  In liberal Madison Wisconsin is St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church with a new pastor in 2021.  "Sermons were focusing more on sin and confession [the confession booth]. Priests were rarely seen without cassocks.  At the parish elementary school, students began hearing about abortion and hell."  Two generations liberalized by Vatican II are dying and falling away from church attendance, and are being replaced by young families with many children, families that respond to "no contraception," who do not fret about overpopulation.  [This is also a trend at Calvary Hills Baptist in San Antonio.]  "An outspoken 72-year-old priest at Blessed Trinity Parish in Cleveland, was blunter: “They’re just waiting for us to die.”"

Voices for orthodoxy:  Sister Miriam James, Jackie Francois Angel, Mike Schmitz.

https://chastityproject.com/2014/02/the-devil-wants-you-to-settle-in-your-relationship/        Jackie Francois Angel

"Most American Catholics are far from orthodox...support abortion rights...birth control.  Those Catholics are not in church."  "Conservatives increasingly dominate the U.S. Catholic Bishops Conference and the Catholic intellectual world. They include ... six of the nine U.S. Supreme Court justices.  Then there’s the priesthood.  Young priests driven by liberal politics and progressive theology, so common in the 1960s and 70s, have “all but vanished.""  Mention of the Tyler, TX conservative Bishop Joseph E. Strickland, excommunicated.  Also look on-line for Archbishop Vigano, a potent critic of Pope Francis.  Pope Francis criticizes the conservatism, “Being backward-looking is useless.”  Yet Pope Francis holds onto most tradition.  Benedictine College is conservative, double enrollment in 20 years.

2024 Oct 12     https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/for-liberals-a-familiar-sinking-feeling-returns/ar-AA1s7qOR

JE sees web site, Oct 12 2024, which makes John think that feminist ideas, young women convinced that marriage is slavery, not wanting a man ruling them in a marriage, thinking of pregnancy as a disease, but they want the government to be a substitute provider and protector.  And they are solid Kamala Harris voters.

Liberals think, "We can't stop worrying about it because so much is at stake."  "I truly believe [Trump] will continue to undo some of the constitutional rights and perpetuate a sense of fear, disrespect to minority groups, and bring more instability to an already extremely fragile and divided country," she said.  Peterson, from Colorado, echoed those concerns.  "I'm honestly just scared things will never go back to how they were, having debates where the parties are professional, respectful and actually care about the people they're representing," she said.

But conservatives take these very worries of liberals and show that Kamala Harris as president could produce the very things that liberals fear from Trump!  In fewer words, it is so often true that what Dems accuse Republicans of is exactly what Dems are doing!

Whereas liberals worry about "So much is at stake," "undo some of the constitutional rights," conservatives fear that the most liberal (some say) presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, could trash constitutional rights...BBC 8 Oct 2020: "GovTrack...lists her as the most liberal of all 100 senators...she was "open" to discussing the highly controversial idea" of adding two or four Supreme Court justices...defunding of police departments, as many liberal Democrats desire...legalizing marijuana at the national level [when New York legalized marijuana, New York City residents noted the dramatic stink along city streets]...one of the first top Democrats to join Senator Bernie Sanders' 2017 Medicare for All...co-sponsor of the Green New Deal...$10 trillion climate plan for net-zero emissions by 2045...promised to use executive action to enact stricter gun control...supported highly contentious taxpayer-funded abortions...proposed providing all workers with six months paid family leave for personal or medical issues...large companies should be required to be "equal pay certified"...path to citizenship to the millions of undocumented [migrants] living in the US [then they would be a Dem voting bloc that would overwhelm Republicans], decriminalizing border crossings by undocumented immigrants and providing taxpayer-funded healthcare for those crossing the US border without papers.

Whereas liberals worry about "Disrespect to minority groups," "actually care about the people," conservatives know that the Democratic Party machine routinely harvests votes of minorities (and "identity-politics" voters) and then forgets about them until the next presidential election, thus disrespecting them.  Evidence that Republicans care more about people.  (Government policies affect people, and Republicans have policies that are better for families:  Teamsters Union not endorsing a presidential candidate in 2024, breaking with three decades of endorsing Dem.  Teamsters internal polling:  60% for Trump, 34% for Harris.)

Whereas liberals worry about "Instability to an already extremely fragile and divided country," but big-city mayors let the riots proceed after George Floyd died (such as Kamala Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, then governor of Minnesota, who didn't interfere with Minneapolis burning), abundant Dem lies during the 2024 presidential campaign (liberal U.S. news media let them lie and don't challenge it, in the name of 'free speech') (Dems lie and repeat the lie so often that people start believing it).  Dems are now in the business of garnering power as their reason for existing;  intelligent and rational governance is of little concern to Dems.  (Progressives in the umbrella of postmodernism are after power, not rights.)  This makes one recall how the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia, they pulled a black curtain around their ruling elite and carried out random killing campaigns, fulfilling death quotas, to terrorize urban populations into submission.  (I obtained Viktor Kravchenko's book, I Chose Freedom, through Amazon, and my used copy came from a personal library that was sold by the family of a deceased man.  But Wikipedia says there are reprints coming out after 2000, including 2022!) Could radical Dems and Antifa edge toward these tactics?

2024 Oct 20  Pastor Nathan Clardy at Calvary Hills Baptist in San Antonio, two weeks before the contentious U.S. presidential election:  we all want change in America, to benefit our children.    By and large, the American Christian church is not listening to God.  (Think about the bulk of Episcopalians, Presbyterians, the United Methodist Church (though the new Global Methodist Church is on the right track), Roman Catholics.)  Don't seek revival just for your comfort.  Point people to Jesus.
