We begin in the name of the one who is mercy and compassion.
We retrain our thinking by repetition which is why continuous, regular wazifa and zhikr practices work!
By retraining our thinking we can look in a new way at our problems.
Our thoughts create our reality.
It takes courage to let love in .
Subject: Seriousness
Homework:
Questions and contemplations to ask:
What does the word mean to me, and what does it mean to take my spiritual life seriously.
Do I take myself seriously in doing the sufi work - which is coming back to ourselves over and over and over again.
How serious am I about transformation?
What am I willing to do to make unskillful thought patterns into skillful thought patterns.
Read: intoxication of life -alchemy of happiness/read about mystical heart
Practice staying in touch being open and compassionate not getting lost and connected with the self image
Definition of seriousness
Thoughtful in manner/appearance
sober/sobriety
taking things in a quiet way/ (if the spirit is agitated we don't see how we treat ourselves and others),
self discipline,
holding back in relationships,
harnessing energy/
being earnest and sincere instead of trifling and joking
We need a healthy amount of interest in our self - like being in love at the beginning of a relationship.
We need courage to stay with ourselves when things seem too painful rather than run away, avoid, or reject our experiences.
Practice awareness being with what is without labels
Inner work is about moving from stuckness to experiencing the fullness of our life, experiencing who we really are
There is a place for real humor and joy, so this does not mean that we can't be serious with our spiritual life at the same time.
By meditating we become aware of old patterns
when feeling unworthy or the inner critique is at work those are examples of very unskillful unhelpful thoughts
we need to choose good thoughts
why would you choose a bad apple over a good apple?
Protect yourself from harmful thoughts.
When we have negative thoughts we must seriously apply ourselves to new helpful thoughts - which is why we do practices
We need to set a good intention/make a decision to change old patterns, negative thoughts
Just notice it happening (the bad apple thoughts) and:
STOP IT/
PARK IT/
LEAVE IT/
PULL IT OUT BY THE ROOT!!!
This might take quite some time depending on the stubbornness of your ego.
Just imagine the negative thoughts being criminals - getting the criminal out of there - and being free
Free yourself from conditional thinking and create healthy states of being so your true being can shine through
You don't have to be more then you already are!
When you are mindful with compassion you learn to tolerate when the mind is saying it's too much
Slow down breathing- come into silence and breath deeply; feel own grounding as a way to connect with being
Stay connected with the body
Stay connected to the heart and listen to the heart
Realize that to be serious in relationship with ourselves and others takes time, effort and work
The mind is only the surface of the heart
