SON RETURNED TO MOM
After dad's death, Ayub lived with step-mom at Thiruvadhavur and petha at Melur. He did B.Sc., at Melur. There was no communication between them and Vellore. There will be an Islamic religious ritual, "Pathiya" on the fortieth day. At Vellore mom worried, "Ayub alone can inherit your dad's properties. His step-mom might kill him to take away property...your petha and aunts are angrily against us...Ayub doesn't have anyone else...and safety also. So make arrangements to bring Ayub here". Mytheen with the help of an influential Christian friend planned to abduct Ayub. With other brothers they stayed in a remote rest house at Melur. The Christian friend visited petha saying, "I know Ayub's dad. I am shocked to hear he passed away suddenly...I am sorry". As he left them Ayub walked along with him a little distance from house and this friend secretly told him his mission. Ayub followed him to rest house and was comforted to see his brothers. Brothers told him, "Take all the documents from safety box and be ready at specific place this night; we will pick you up and go to Vellore. Nobody should know about this. If they know that you are trying to escape, they will not let you go and might give you lot of trouble". Ayub left them. As planned the friend brought him out of city. Ayub showed a little box taken from the safety box. They found mom's karugumani (wedding chain) and a little piece of paper. Dad had written in the paper, "I haven't seen a faithful lady like her. Place this karugumani with my body during funeral". On reading this they were moved with tears. Even his last wish was not fulfilled. Should the life of a smart man end like this? What is the profit out of smartness? Who knows how a man's life will end. He did not want to take anything else except this karugumani at the time of his funeral. May be for him it was like....his wife was with him forever. He loved her even at death who was his greatest enemy. Even though they were separated physically...he lived in his heart with her. Separated...yet stayed together. Is there a better testimony than this ....given by her worst enemy? If mom knows his last wish she might get fatal heart attack....so they hid it from her.Â
They hid Ayub at Vellore and later at Coimbatore. Nobody came after him. So he lived with mom at Vellore. After being brought up in strict Islam, Ayub came to a cross-road. For the fortieth day pathiya, mom and all sons went to Melur. Petha moaned with great distress, "Ayub! Why did you run away? If you would have told me I would have sent you to Vellore after this pathiya...In the mean time you are the only son available to pour milk over his cemetery...and you ran away". It was true! In that night ajrat (Islamic priest) from the mosque and relatives assembled at home. In their midst there were varieties of food and fruits and burning incense sticks. After ajrat recited prayer, they sang a funeral song over dad's death. The song goes like this, "Thangam! Where is your spirit gone! We do not know! Where have you gone!" On listening to this song they were intensely downhearted about uncertainty of dad's eternity in Islam.
