WAITER IS A BELIEVER
B.Sc. final theory exams were over and he had few weeks left for his practical exam. Most of the students went home to prepare for practical exams. The university college closed its campus canteen. Few students stayed in students residence and dine in small restaurants at Nagamalai Pudukottai about a kilometer from campus.
Omar went to Nagamalai Pudukottai with prayer group students and had his meals regularly. One evening they entered a small restaurant with thatched roof. There were four or five tables; waiter cleaned the table. They ordered for idlee and dosai; if they take rice at night they might fall asleep fast and can't study for long time. When they saw the waiter served with humility and smile, they said, "He looks like a nice teenager, instead of studying at school he is waiting at tables..what a pity". After they finished dinner, Omar asked, "Why are you working in a restaurant without going to school? Only if you study you can get good job and good money". He replied, "Yes sir! I was going to high school, but my parents drove me out of house. In order to feed myself I am working here". Omar inquired whether he did something wrong for his parents to do so. He whispered that since he became a Christian it happened and didn't do anything wrong. They wanted to hear more about his story. One student asked, "Why did you become Christian?" Cleaning the table he said, "Sir! Jesus bore our sins and died on the cross for us. On the third day He rose again. If we ask forgiveness, He will forgive our sins and give us eternal life. That's why I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior and nobody did like this. My parents are Hindus for generations and they didn't like it, so they ill treated me and in the end drove me out of house. Now I am working as a waiter in this restaurant". They comforted him saying, "We are also Christians and may face oppression....we should be brave without fear. One day God will surely deliver us from all these problems. Pray for your dad and mom; we will join you in prayer; God will save them one day". On hearing this, he was very delighted. When they came to student residence, Omar compared his life with him. He is a faithful soldier for Christ. He is bearing such a heavy cross at this young age. He didn't have either food to eat or a place to sleep. He lost his parents and home.....lives by cleaning the tables in a restaurant....nevertheless he is very rich in heaven. He didn't mind people teasing him that he is a waiter. Just like Paul who said that he counts everything but a loss for Jesus, this youngster practiced it. Omar count it a joy to suffer in this world for the sake of Christ. He compared himself nothing to that youngster who lost everything for Jesus Christ and who doesn't even know what his future will be (Phil 3: 7-8).
