BIBLE SCHOOL JOB
With the hope of reducing financial burden, he applied for jobs advertised. When he didn't have money to buy applications, one can imagine the difficulty to pay for typing, postage and other such expenses. Mom cut down food expenses to help with this but still it was hard to find a job. Months and years rolled by...without bribing you can't get a job...like going after a mirage. Since it was a sin to give bribe they didn't go for it.
One day pastor Stephen told, "Mom... missionaries are planning to start a Bible school in Kodaikanal and they want to help Omar by giving him translator position in it. What do you think about it?" Mom rejoiced, "It's very good...Stephen! Omar is miserable without job, this will be a help to the family...besides he'll have chance to study in Bible school". Omar was offered the job through pastor Stephen's help. After that, one day Margaret and June came to Vadugapatti church to preach and service was over around 9:00pm. Omar took some groceries, clothes, utensils in a bag and accompanied them to Kodaikanal in their jeep. Jeep raced through forests in the middle of the night and stopped in front of an apartment near Kodaikanal bus terminal. They left him in upstairs with his luggage and drove to their bungalow. As Omar was very tired he slept at once.
When he woke up in the morning the sun was very bright. Through the glass windows he saw the beautiful mountain slopes, tall trees, flowers, lawns and bungalows. He felt as if it was the end of his poverty. Atleast now he'll earn Rs 100 monthly and have rice porridge regularly. This thought gave him strength and thanked God for the job. In his room other than cot, he had one foot space to move around and a washroom in one corner. Water from tap was ice cold in which he washed his clothes, utensils and everything else. In another corner was a table with stove and the room was covered with smoke. Adjacent to this room was another room where bible school and church services were held. Mostly fifteen people can sit in that room. Omar cooked his own food and did translator job. Every month he sent his pay to mom. Mom supplied groceries and pocket money. When foreign missionaries visited Vadugapatti Omar joined them to see mom. Later some fifteen boys from nearby cities attended Bible school. A house was rented for them at Munjikal. Omar moved there and enjoyed hostel food. This arrangement was convenient to him.
