I am associate professor and director of studies of Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. My areas of teaching are basic soil science, soil classification, international classification systems, soil degradation and reclamation, basic ecology and environmental protection. I’m working at EMÜ as a teacher and researcher since 1998. My areas of research are soil mechanical and physical properties, soil degradation (compaction).

I’m a member of steering committee of the Estonian Society of Soil Science since 2010, member of the European Soil Bureau Network (ESBN) since 2008, member of the International Soil Tillage Research Organisation (ISTRO) since 2001 and member of European Society for Soil Conservation (ESSC) since 1999.

Some recent research and cooperation projects:

Assessment of trafficability of soils by combat armour vehicle in Estonia, Estonian Ministry of Defence, head of the project, 2012–2015

Interactive Soil Quality Assessment in Europe and China for Agricultural Productivity and Environmental Resilience (iSQAPER), Horizon 2020 SFS-4-2014 case study partner, principal investigator and coordinator in Estonia, 2015–2020

Educational network on Soil and Plant ecology and management, ERASMUS+ strategic partnership, teacher, coordinator in Estonia, 2014–2017

Fertility building management measures in organic cropping systems, ERA-Net Core Organic Plus, principal investigator, 2015–2017

Reduced tillage and green manures for sustainable organic cropping systems, ERA-NET CORE Organic II, principal investigator, 2011–2014
