Pecs transnational meeting - 2-5th June 2020

Agenda:

1. Brainstorming and discussion on Omnibus educational implications, dissemination plan and promotion strategies to include it as teaching resource in substantial number of universities out of partnership and decisions will be made on its final shape and task division and management to complete task timely Reports: Cezary Kabała .

2. Progress in the SYStem app (IO1) development.

1.REPORTS Przemysław Charzyński led the discussion starting from the first point of the meeting agenda.

Cezary Kabała reported on the progress in the Omnibus preparation. He also highlighted its high potential in terms of use for academic teaching of subjects concerning the soil science, including the studies of first, second, and third degree. All participants agreed that the Omnibus will be a valuable educational elaboration and promised to promote it in their local (regional and extra-regional) contact networks in the future.

2.REPORTS Marcin Świtoniak – After presenting the latest version of the application to all project members and ongoing process of the application testing, some significant issues with its functionality have been identified. TA report containing all of the issues that need to be dealt with will be prepared soon. All the project members were asked to provide input on soil descriptions for further testing of the app's functionality.

3.REPORTS Przemysław Charzyński - Przemysław Charzyński asked all the project members about the state of the recruitment for the Ljubljana workshops.

Most of the members did recruited four students s it was planned. Szabolcs Czigany from the University of Pecs did not recruited any, as the students were highly concerned about the risk connected with the COVID-19. Also Vit Penížek from the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague recruited only 2 out of possible four students. Additional students from Italy (University of Sassari) and Poland (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) will participate in workshop. All of the project members agreed to such redistribution of the places for students.

 The Slovenian project member - Blaž Repe informed about the state of advancement of the logistic issues connected with the Ljubljana workshop in July.

b) The process of compiling the final student list in light of all circumstances was discussed. It was planned that the final list should be prepared just after the Pecs international project meeting.

c)  The ongoing preparation of the Extremadura workshop and the starting of the recruitment process for this event were discussed.

d) The discussion of the next international meeting was started. The proposed dates are September 23-24 (plus two extra travel days). 

4. FIELD WORK – APPLICATION TESTING.

One of the main topics of the Pecs meeting was testing the application in the field, as this tool is planned to be used in the future during a variety of field activities with students. During the meeting, three soil profiles were prepared and described. All of them represented different types of soil cover transformations connected with the main land use of the region – orchards and vineyards. At the same time all of the examined soils were developed from one of the most important parent material, common for the area of Central Europe which is loess deposits. Three different soils described in three different locations were as follows:

-    Calcaric Cambisol (Protocalcic, Escalic, Ochric, Siltic) in vineyards of Siklós-Máriagyűd;

-    Endocalcic Luvisol (Aric, Cutanic, Ochric, Siltic) in orchards of Palkonya;

-    Terric Kastanozem (Pachic, Siltic, Bathyluvic).
