Roger has a lifetime history of alienating his own relatives, so it's not a surprise that his alienating behaviors were passed to his daughter.
Roger despised his wife's only sibling and growled in front of these young children when her name was mentioned.
In 2006, Roger's wife's sister stated:
"Roger never got along with my Dad"
"There was not any friendship between Roger and my parents"
"I know my parents didn't like Roger for their daughter"
"I know what my parents went through when they got married"
"Not a big connection with daughter and son and spouses"
"Rogers wife has always done exactly as Roger wants"
"(Roger's wife) walks a very straight line"
During 10 years of marriage together of the custodian and the father, Roger's only sibling who lived 15 miles away, was never invited to any family celebration, anniversary, confirmation or graduation (of older Minnesota cousins) or even the 10 year anniversary renewal of marriage vows of the custodian's sister, who had run away to Mexico to marry the man that Roger hated. The father asked the custodian why Roger's sister wasn't ever invited and the custodian said don't ask. Roger's only sibling, the custodian's aunt wasn't visited by the custodian during the 10 years. Roger's wife's only sibling was never invited either, but that reason was clear from Roger's growls, why she wasn't invited.
Some of the custodian's cousins, and several who lived nearby, attended the custodian's wedding, and then there were no visits during the 10 years of marriage or in the 3 years of dating before (likely not by any of Roger's children either). There was and probably still is no connection to cousins, except for a wedding. One or two cousins lived nearby in the previous state, but weren't visited.
The father's family had large one day family reunions in Minnesota every year and for many years these included 1st, 2nd and even some 3rd cousins attending. In the last 10 years, the reunion became a week long at a lake every other year and included a group of about 50 1st cousins, aunts, uncles, children. And the father's family also celebrated graduations, major anniversaries and birthdays with aunts, uncles and cousins. The father's aunts, uncles and cousins were informed of the shocking, sudden and secret divorce filing, many within a day of the father finding out this secret divorce when the custodian asked the father's brother to tell the father of the secret and shocking divorce, and most of the rest of relatives found out within one week.
The custodian has only 2 aunts and no blood relative uncles. The custodian had filed for divorce and immediately separated 8.5 months before the conversation with the quotes below between the father and the custodian's aunt Laura. And after 8.5 months, Laura didn't know about a divorce filing or of any problem or separation before the phone call, and thought that the family still lived in the former state, even though Laura talked with her sister occasionally on the phone, and all had moved to Minnesota months before. All was kept secret from her until the father called.
