37. The Very, Very, Very Hot Day
Today it is hot.
Very, very hot.
Sam does not handle the heat very well.
He tries to cool off by sitting in front of a fan.
It does help, a little bit, but it is still too hot.
He tries to cool off by sitting in front of two fans.
It helps a little bit more.
But it is still too hot.
Keeping cool in this level of heat was going require drastic measures.
Sam decides to fill up a swimming pool.
The nice, cold water should surely help him cool down!
But Sam is not the only one feeling the heat today.
Uncle Tubby also fares poorly in the heat.
And he, too, enjoys a nice cool swim on a hot day.
Unfortunately, this swimming pool is a bit on the small side to accommodate him.
Oh no.
And so, Sam was still too hot.
And now he couldn't even swim.
He began to feel grumpy!
But wait Sam, Bingo has an idea!
Why don't the two of them go to the public pool? It's much larger, and surely nice and cold!
What a great idea!
That will definitely help them to stay cool.
And Bingo, who doesn't mind the heat nearly so much, will get a day all to himself to relax and unwind.
Oh no.
...
Meanwhile, at the pool, Sam is very excited. Finally, he will be cool!
He can already imagine how wonderful it will feel to jump right in.
He just has to put on his floaties for safety, and then...
Oh no.
Today is Adult Swim only.
And Sam is not tall enough to join in!

Well, Sam is not hot anymore, but now he is very grumpy!
Well, at least a little grumpy.
Okay maybe he secretly thinks the kiddie pool is pretty fun.
But it's a principle! He should have been allowed to go in the big pool.
And Uncle Tubby just abandoned him!
When Uncle Tubby gets out of the pool, he can see that Sam is a little bit upset.
He doesn't know why - he got to go swimming after all - but nonetheless, he thinks he knows just the way to cheer him up.
Ice cream!
Indeed, Sam does like that idea.
As they walk to the ice cream store, Sam can already imagine how cool and delicious his frozen treat is sure to be.
When they arrive, Uncle Tubby gets a double scoop of mint chocolate chip on a jumbo cone.
It is his favorite flavor.
Sam can't eat quite that much, and he doesn't need any fancy flavors. A plain vanilla cone is his choice!
Oh boy, it sure looks delicious, he can't wait to take that first taste...
...but it seems that today is simply too hot for ice cream.
Sam rushes back to the ice cream stand, to see if he can replace his cone.
But he is too late.
He begins to feel the grumpiness return.
And also the oppressive summer heat.
He tries to remove his floaty to cool off a little bit more.
But, to his dismay, he realizes it has become stuck.
When he gets home, Bingo has to cut it off of him with scissors.
It is very embarrassing.
By now, the heat has also begun to make him feel positively dreadful.
He cannot take much more of this.
Bingo realizes that he cannot let his friend suffer any longer.
This heat wave calls for truly drastic measures.
~~~
He has saved these pennies for a long time, but now it's time to put them to use.
Bingo doesn't mind the heat, being a desert creature, but to keep his pudgy polar pals from wasting away in the heat, he purchases an air conditioner.
It will take a while to install.
But Sam wants the cool now!
Even inside, it feels as if the sun is still beating down on him, draining him of all energy.
Hey, wait a minute.
Go on, get out you!
The nerve of some giant balls of scorching hot gas.
Meanwhile, the air conditioner is finally in place!
All that is between Sam and refreshing, cold air now is the turn of a dial.
It works! It really works!
Ah, it sure is refreshing.
Or, it would be if he could just get in front of it...
Come on, scoot over!
Sam needs the cool too!
Move over now!
~~~
~~~
Oh no.
~~~
Now they've done it. Bingo is going to be furious!
He tells them to come down stairs immediately.
Bingo tells them that this horseplay has gone on long enough. Now, he is going to have to send them away.
Away? Away to where? They begin to imagine all the terrible places they could be sent to... scary dungeons, bug-infested swamps, Cleveland....
No, stop, that's just too horrible to imagine.
Please Bingo, don't make them go, they'll replace the air conditioner!
But to their surprise, Bingo wasn't referring to anywhere bad at all.
He simply meant that they now had no choice to keep cool except to go to the beach!
Cleveland averted!
It is the perfect day for the beach.
And unlike the pool, there are no rules about when Sam can swim!
This seems to be the perfect solution for everyone.
Bingo lays in the sun while his pals splash around.
Oh no.
You know what, maybe Bingo is beginning to feel the heat now too, just a little bit.
It's making him aggressive!
He'd better go cool off, too, before it gets worse.
And then, finally, nobody was too hot.
It was just right.
And Sam had not yet realized Bingo had bought that air conditioner with his pennies.
